  1. Welcome. I'm sure you have more than a few questions.
  2. You've been offered a glance into a story that is not your own.
  3. It is our hope to guide you on the way there in hopes of finding a conclusion, although that is thinking far ahead.
  4. Of course, you will have to find a proxy to guide in this task- something some may find easier said than done.
  5.
  6. So to those of you who seek to play puppeteer in the lives of those we will, for now, call our heroes:
  7. This world is your world.
  8. I say this not only because as you take hold of these peoples’ lives you take their places in the world they know,
  9. but because this world, their world, is identical to your own.
  10. Almost.
  11.
  12. The day is the same. But the countries, the continents, the politics may not be precisely what you know, what you remember-
  13. You see, their world has been experiencing something your world has not.
  14. Their world has begun to change.
  15.
  16. You will take control of a single player in this vast world. Perhaps some of you may choose to become creatures more foreign, while others may stick close to reality, to beings like themselves and those they know.
  17. But tread lightly;
  18. The world you venture into is far different from your starting place. Take comfort in the familiar, but do not assume it will continue. You have, you might say, ventured beyond the edges of your map.
  19. Take care, my friends, and possibly my enemies;
  20. Here there be monsters.
  21.
  22.
  23. To the scattered unfortunates who will shape and guide this story:
  24. Throughout your daily lives, you’ve all begun to hear more stories of the unexplainable. Be it strange sightings, missing people, or ships lost at sea- it almost seems as though the world has shifted its focus, that suddenly the voices that are heard are those telling ghost stories.
  25. Has the world gone mad?
  26. But for some, even perhaps most of you, you’ve begun to question your assumptions, your beliefs regarding these- strange, unfathomable fantasies.
  27. Might that be because, if I dare, of what you yourselves have seen?
  28. Of course, it’s not my place to ask.
  29.
  30. What we may ask however is for a tale of where you came from, of who you are, how your life has shaped you and the person you've become. No need for anything too elaborate- but we must admit some measure of curiosity. You are to be our protagonists, after all; would it not be best to begin with an introduction?
  31.
  32. In our experience, we find a few key points can build the outline for a much more elaborate creature- such as yourself.
  33. We ask you to create one such outline-
  34. Give first two things that define you, traits you believe to be essential to who you are;
  35. Give three of your interests, things you find fascinating or lose time to often;
  36. Give what you would consider one of your more important flaws; and give a simple description of you as a person, both physical and how you think you may come off to others at first glance.
  37.
  38. Now that that's done, let's fill things in a tad, why don't we?
  39. Fears are something everyone has, of course. But the difference between conceptual fears- feelings, concepts such as helplessness or abandonment- and material fears- a thing, circumstance, or being- is important to recognize. Give one of the former, and two of the latter; one circumstantial, one physical.
  40. Rumors are a fickle thing. Some are positive, some are negative, and some are entirely false. Give one of each for your fellow puppeteers, that they might give some interest to the beginnings of your stories together.
  41. And finally, tell us what has dragged you into this twisted story, and what binds you here. We understand this last bit is a somewhat trickier question, so please do ask for assistance- our spokespeople, I'm sure, are at your service.
  42.
  43. Your story is yours to tell-
  44. And I’m sure you’re eager to return to it.
  45. I’ll leave you to it.
  46. Talk soon.
