  64. Backstory:
  65.
  66. Marien van der Laan is a child of faith, both in known and unknown ways. Her father Matthijs was a Ministorum priest, attached to an Imperial Guard regiment on campaign. In the final assault of the campaign, the stories go that he stood up to a Bloodthirster and lived, keeping it at bay with his blessed Warhammer long enough for the lascannons to get into position. When the dust cleared, the Bloodthirster had been banished back to the hell from whence he came, and Matthijs lay bleeding from a severe wound the monstrosity inflicted on him. Despite the lingering magicks impairing the healing process, Matthijs lived and settled down to colonize the world with the rest of his brothers and sisters who fought that day. Unbeknownst to anyone, Matthijs carried a more permanent scar from this battle, one he would pass down to his eldest daughter.
  67.
  68. Marien was born some years later, into a church family. With her father as priest of one of the largest churches on the newly-appointed Shrine world (due to his regiment being initially from a Shrine world), she was indoctrinated into the Imperial Cult nearly from birth. She took to some of the more fiery passages her father spoke of more easily than the peacable ones, and her father knew he would one day send her to the Adepta Sororitas. Unfortunately, her ability to latch on to these messages in particular was due to the diabolical influence of Khorne, whose rage passed down to her from the scar her father had attained in battle. She was an aggressive child, often getting in fights with other kids for a myriad of reasons, but the root was often enough faith-based that it only deepened the family's resolve to send her to the Sororitas. As she came of age, she would be sent to a convent where she learned the ways of battle from the Order of the Valorous Heart, making new friends and contacts as well within the Ecclesiarchy. One such friend was Amalia Wrangel, an acolyte of the Order of Silent Sorrow. Her purity and faithfulness led to attraction, which led to romance. Of course, being from different orders, they eventually had to part. To this day they still share correspondence when they can, though Marien being sent to serve an Inquisitor and Amalia being shipped from battlefield to battlefield to heal the wounded has hindered this slightly. Marien, for her part, has taken to her new job in the Inquisition, though the amount of violence has made keeping her rages under control a bit difficult...
  69.
  70. Appearance: Marien is a tall woman, 5'10" in height, and a quite muscular 160 pounds. She has brown hair cut short and green eyes. She wears black flak armor with Sororitas symbols on them, and carries both a large augmented warhammer and a pistol.
  71.
  72. Other: Marien engages in self-flagellation, both in keeping with the teachings of her Convent, and as a response to the rages that come and go within her. Unfortunately, the sight of her own blood sometimes has the opposite intended effect.
