- wow I just realized Feign Death on a bbeg.
- ArveraflameToday at 9:40 PM
- Has to be willing
- Hadarburger HelperToday at 9:40 PM
- Have him ready it as it's action
- ArveraflameToday at 9:40 PM
- Oh
- I see
- Hadarburger HelperToday at 9:40 PM
- and then when he's hit have him cast it
- most parties don't double tap
- ArveraflameToday at 9:40 PM
- You'd really need Subtle Spell
- Hadarburger HelperToday at 9:40 PM
- might be a last resort thing
- yeah
- true
- ArveraflameToday at 9:40 PM
- and even then, requires M component
- but if you don't have subtle spell, it could be an Arcana check to identify the spell
- and if not, "Oh, well, maybe he was trying to cast Shield but failed. Weird."
- Hadarburger HelperToday at 9:41 PM
- it's just dirt
- ArveraflameToday at 9:41 PM
- I mean, I would assume arcane/holy focus
- Hadarburger HelperToday at 9:41 PM
- you could hold dirt in the hand
- ArveraflameToday at 9:41 PM
- instead of dirt
- as he's probably using it to cast other spells anyways
- Hadarburger HelperToday at 9:42 PM
- a pinch of dirt anyway
- that is true
- ArveraflameToday at 9:42 PM
- I wonder
- if you sit the whole hour
- could that be a short rest?
- for peeps who don't want to look it up
- Gyazo
- Gyazo
- I would honestly argue, yeah, if you wait the whole duration, that's totally a short rest
- maybe not allow spending hit die, though
- which would kill the main benefit
- RedEyesBlackGamer (Cass/Allura)Today at 9:45 PM
- Short Rests do not require consciousness.
- ArveraflameToday at 9:45 PM
- But does spending hit die?
- RedEyesBlackGamer (Cass/Allura)Today at 9:45 PM
- Nope
- ArveraflameToday at 9:46 PM
- Really? That sounds kind of like an oversight
- Assuming hit die are, like, patching yourself up and recovering
- you can't do that while incapacitated
- Vallug theToday at 9:46 PM
- Your body heals itself naturally but, accelerated rate
- yes
- there we go
- RedEyesBlackGamer (Cass/Allura)Today at 9:46 PM
- JC confirmed on twitter.
- Look at LRs and SRs.
- ArveraflameToday at 9:46 PM
- well butter me up and call me a biscuit, then
- RedEyesBlackGamer (Cass/Allura)Today at 9:47 PM
- One has a clause, the other doesn't.
- RnarToday at 9:48 PM
- I mean
- a little patching up wouldn't solve Dragon Burns, and a good nights rest wouldn't do much more about an axe in the chest, so I tend to just, quietly suspend my disbelief about 5e's rest system
- ArveraflameToday at 9:48 PM
- Both are fair
- Vallug theToday at 9:48 PM
- You see
- when you take a rest
- in the land of dnd
- you're actually asking the magical fairy of healing
- to come to you
- and heal you up
- But the fairy wants to make sure you're committed to this
- RedEyesBlackGamer (Cass/Allura)Today at 9:49 PM
- A character canβt benefit from more than one long rest in a 24-hour period, and a character must have at least 1 hit point at the start of the rest to gain its benefits.
- This clause is in LRs. It is absent from SRs.
- Vallug theToday at 9:49 PM
- so it waits for 8 hours or 4 hours.
- If you wait only for four, it calls you impatient and only accelerates your body's natural growth, but if you wait 8, it says you're cool and fully heals you
- RedEyesBlackGamer (Cass/Allura)Today at 9:50 PM
- It is a pretty obscure rules tidbit.
- ArveraflameToday at 9:50 PM
- In that case, if you're unconscious (from, say, stabilizing at 0 HP), you don't need to roll 1d4 hours to wake up
- just start taking a short rest, and spend a hit die to wake up
- doesn't even require consciousness or HP to start a short rest
- RedEyesBlackGamer (Cass/Allura)Today at 9:51 PM
- Yep
