  3. wow I just realized Feign Death on a bbeg.
  4. ArveraflameToday at 9:40 PM
  5. Has to be willing
  6. Hadarburger HelperToday at 9:40 PM
  7. Have him ready it as it's action
  8. ArveraflameToday at 9:40 PM
  9. Oh
  10. I see
  11. Hadarburger HelperToday at 9:40 PM
  12. and then when he's hit have him cast it
  13. most parties don't double tap
  14. ArveraflameToday at 9:40 PM
  15. You'd really need Subtle Spell
  16. Hadarburger HelperToday at 9:40 PM
  17. might be a last resort thing
  18. yeah
  19. true
  20. ArveraflameToday at 9:40 PM
  21. and even then, requires M component
  22. but if you don't have subtle spell, it could be an Arcana check to identify the spell
  23. and if not, "Oh, well, maybe he was trying to cast Shield but failed. Weird."
  24. Hadarburger HelperToday at 9:41 PM
  25. it's just dirt
  26. ArveraflameToday at 9:41 PM
  27. I mean, I would assume arcane/holy focus
  28. Hadarburger HelperToday at 9:41 PM
  29. you could hold dirt in the hand
  30. ArveraflameToday at 9:41 PM
  31. instead of dirt
  32. as he's probably using it to cast other spells anyways
  33. Hadarburger HelperToday at 9:42 PM
  34. a pinch of dirt anyway
  35. that is true
  36. ArveraflameToday at 9:42 PM
  37. I wonder
  38. if you sit the whole hour
  39. could that be a short rest?
  40. https://gyazo.com/1460cf9712cd1207cc415711b6e3d316
  41. for peeps who don't want to look it up
  42. Gyazo
  43. Gyazo
  44.
  45. I would honestly argue, yeah, if you wait the whole duration, that's totally a short rest
  46. maybe not allow spending hit die, though
  47. which would kill the main benefit
  48. RedEyesBlackGamer (Cass/Allura)Today at 9:45 PM
  49. Short Rests do not require consciousness.
  50. ArveraflameToday at 9:45 PM
  51. But does spending hit die?
  52. RedEyesBlackGamer (Cass/Allura)Today at 9:45 PM
  53. Nope
  54. ArveraflameToday at 9:46 PM
  55. Really? That sounds kind of like an oversight
  56. Assuming hit die are, like, patching yourself up and recovering
  57. you can't do that while incapacitated
  58. Vallug theToday at 9:46 PM
  59. Your body heals itself naturally but, accelerated rate
  60. yes
  61. there we go
  62. RedEyesBlackGamer (Cass/Allura)Today at 9:46 PM
  63. JC confirmed on twitter.
  64. Look at LRs and SRs.
  65. ArveraflameToday at 9:46 PM
  66. well butter me up and call me a biscuit, then
  67. RedEyesBlackGamer (Cass/Allura)Today at 9:47 PM
  68. One has a clause, the other doesn't.
  69. RnarToday at 9:48 PM
  70. I mean
  71. a little patching up wouldn't solve Dragon Burns, and a good nights rest wouldn't do much more about an axe in the chest, so I tend to just, quietly suspend my disbelief about 5e's rest system
  72. ArveraflameToday at 9:48 PM
  73. Both are fair
  74. Vallug theToday at 9:48 PM
  75. You see
  76. when you take a rest
  77. in the land of dnd
  78. you're actually asking the magical fairy of healing
  79. to come to you
  80. and heal you up
  81. But the fairy wants to make sure you're committed to this
  82. RedEyesBlackGamer (Cass/Allura)Today at 9:49 PM
  83. A character can’t benefit from more than one long rest in a 24-hour period, and a character must have at least 1 hit point at the start of the rest to gain its benefits.
  84.
  85. This clause is in LRs. It is absent from SRs.
  86. Vallug theToday at 9:49 PM
  87. so it waits for 8 hours or 4 hours.
  88. If you wait only for four, it calls you impatient and only accelerates your body's natural growth, but if you wait 8, it says you're cool and fully heals you
  89. RedEyesBlackGamer (Cass/Allura)Today at 9:50 PM
  90. It is a pretty obscure rules tidbit.
  91. ArveraflameToday at 9:50 PM
  92. In that case, if you're unconscious (from, say, stabilizing at 0 HP), you don't need to roll 1d4 hours to wake up
  93. just start taking a short rest, and spend a hit die to wake up
  94. doesn't even require consciousness or HP to start a short rest
  95. RedEyesBlackGamer (Cass/Allura)Today at 9:51 PM
  96. Yep
