  16. On the northernmost edge of the Land of Demons, where jagged coast meets the tumultuous sea, the Hidden Shadow Village sits nestled between Mt. Oniona, and Mt. Oorama, the sister mountains known for their temperamental nature. Avalanches in this area are not uncommon, and those that have made Kagegakure their home are not a stranger to these intermittent disasters. Nestled securely on either side by these twin peaks, the village itself is built in a traditional Japanese style at the base. Unlike Konoha, it is not a bustling city taking the development of the world by storm – there is scarcely any who are native, and for the most part it was untouched by the ravages of the 4th Shinobi war. There had not been, at the time, significant nin occupying the area that were of much use to the allied shinobi forces.
  17. Housing is scattered among the trees, with ancient manors stylistic of the Edo Period. Most appear to be old-standing establishments, perhaps a reflection of a long-ago city that had thrived here in an earlier reign of daimyos, overrun by tall grass and hidden by the thick, twisting branches of Maple and Beech trees that seemingly never lose their brilliant leaves. The architectural presentation reflects the grandiose, polychromatic flavors of an ostentatious upper-class… now dilapidated and darkened by the corrosive effects of age. The majority of these massive houses have been converted into tenant-like homes for ninja and their families to stay in while this new class grows and evolves.
  18. Future expansion could perhaps be possible when the institution gains reputation. For the most part, those that train here leave after reaching the rank of Genin to train in a larger country with a firmly-established program that allows for exposure to the city life, and logistics within bigger governments. – Let it be stated that this is a deal made between the developing Hidden Shadow village and Suna and Konoha. In return, the ninja often are representatives of both villages and can be called upon by the both the Onikage, and the -kage of the land they trained in, respectively.
  19. There is a single road that bisects the village into East and West. Oddly enough, the use of elemental affinity here also seems to dance along this dividing line. Those more inclined to Yin release are to the West, and those to Wind release the East. It isn’t as though there are any warring factions, mind you, that is simply how it seems to have worked itself out among the native people. The road cuts off abruptly, leading into a mountain passage between Mt. Oniona Mt. Oorama, where wilderness takes over.
  20. It is rumored that the darkened path is haunted – most of the destruction of avalanches seems to occur on this route that leads to the coast. Many lives have been lost, and it is traditional in this region to burn sage and pay respect to those that have died. Leaving cakes and chrysanthemums/red spider lilies at the start of the pass is supposed to bring one fortune when heading out to sea. Likewise, leaving them at the gate of the western entrance as an offering to those buried there (for there is a graveyard here) grants one protection on long journeys.

  22. Ninja Attire:
  23. Attire in Kagegakure, much like in other places, varies from ninja to ninja based on personal preference. Darker colors are thematic in the region, as are veils (on women) and strange hats that resemble Russian ushankas, minus the fur-coating. The uniform is relatively standard among the nations. There are a few notable variations, and Kagegakure’s insignia is patched onto the right sleeve.
