  1. Yokai: Umi-Nyobo
  2. Habitat: Aquatic
  3. Threat: Cannibalistic
  4.
  5. Be warned, although many species of Yokai were successfully integrated into society following the end of the Midnight War, many more are still far from docile. For example, the Umi-Nyobo, or “Sea Wives”. Umi-Nyobo are aquatic, piscine Yokai that have long lived in the seas surrounding small coastal villages, only emerging to terrorize their inhabitants. Despite their semi-human appearance, their minds are alien and predatory, taking obscene pleasure in cruelty and pain. In the past, Umi-Nyobo were known to break into homes and steal children away to be eaten, or devour the bodies of drowning victims only to deliver the bloated head to their loved ones in some vicious attempt at kindness.

  7. Following the Midnight War, Umi-Nyobo have been surprisingly receptive to various yokai outreach programs. Typically because, being an entirely female species, they require access to human men to reproduce. Living up to their names, young “Sea Wives” will be handed over by their mothers to enlist in school exchange programs, where they pursue men with a predatory obsessiveness. Although there have been instances of Umi-Nyobo successfully claiming husbands and living peacefully by the sea, these programs are in constant- and highly warranted- threat of termination due to the mind-bogglingly disproportionate amount of sexual assaults, kidnappings, and attempted cannibalism of female “rivals”.
