  1. Moving to a new city can be difficult for some people, but not for me. I took this opportunity for a fresh start. I flunked grade nine back at Leadership Public School in Hayward. My mother and I arrived in Modesto during the summer season. We were lost with nowhere to go except spending a few nights at a friend’s place. It felt like life wasn’t truly on my side at the time. My first few days consisted of frequent disorientation. I knew deep down that I wasn’t anywhere remarkably different than where I was before. The first day of School was just around the corner, so my mother and I went to enroll to the nearest convenient School we could find.

My mother turned to me and said “Son, you know Peter Johansen High School is our closest option, my friend tells me it is a great school.” I take in what she says and I reply with “Anything works as long as I don’t have to walk a million miles to get to school!”. After we decided to go with that school my mother suggested we should probably get some school supplies so I am prepared for school. As I spent the next few weeks at Johansen High School, I learn that my mother landed herself a new job and she found a new place for us to live. It turns out I ended up in the same city, but a different part of town. I realized all of this change was for a reason; I had to help my mother take care of my little sister. These changes ended up benefiting my family’s conflicting schedules and made it so we had more time together.
