  3. Lucky Cat Roadhouse - Bar(#14304RM)
  4.
  5. The Lucky Cat Roadhouse - a small intimate honkytonk type of a dive bar joint!
  6.
  7. The lighting in the roadhouse is low and dim, and the the air is kept perpetually cool. There's a jukebox in one corner of the long rectangular room. A small parquet dance floor anchors the center of the space. Towards the back, opposite the entrance, is a long bar. Behind the bar are bottles of cheap booze, along with a tap for a few select local craft brews. Off to the side of the bar opposite the jukebox is a small raised wooden stage for live music performances. Over on the other end of the bar opposite the stage are a few billiards tables, and storage for the cue sticks and balls.
  8.
  9. A door behind the bar leads to a small kitchen that prepares snacks and basic bar food meals to accompany the drinks. Another door behind the bar is marked "PRIVATE" that when opened reveals a set of stairs leading up.

  18.
  19. Mo had invited Emrick up north, into the peaceful hamlet of Fern Valley, just outside Idyllwyld, for a beer at the roadhouse that Mo called home.
  20.
  21. Emrick walks in and stops at the door to look around, he swapped out his normal t-shirt for a green button down, his glasses aren't on and his messenger bag is left in the car.
  22.
  23. Mo is seated at the bar, knocking back a beer, with an eye towards the door. Spying Emrick, he offers a wave and a holler - "Over here! This way!"
  24.
  25. Emrick sees and hears Mo and gives him a smile, and then is waved towards a bar so he follows.
  26.
  27. There's a lone musician on the stage - a woman with an acoustic guitar. She plays singer-songwriter style music, edgier than what might be heard in a cafe, more intimate and soulful than typical country/western.
  28.
  29. Mo orders a beer for Em. Something locally brewed across the street. "Here, have a cold one one me. And welcome to the Lucky Cat."
  30.
  31. Emrick smiles and says "Thanks, ya' know the way to my heart Mo." and then chuckles a bit "How have you been?"
  32.
  33. Mo offers up a shrug, then knocks back a swallow of beer. "Not too shabby. But antsy to go and recover the Captain's airship. The sooner we have it, and get it up and running, the sooner we can go to Hollow Earth."
  34.
  35. Emrick nods "I'm ready to go whenever you want to, just lemme' know." he recieves his beer and thanks the bartender and then takes a swig and sighs in contentment
  36.
  37. Mo nods. "Fair enough. Fu says we must move no sooner nor later than the proper auspicious time, so he has me checking the math on things."
  38.
  39. Emrick huffs in humor "Right, the stars and all that jazz." he takes a moment to look around "So why did you want to meet here?"
  40.
  41. "This is where I spend my downtime. It's peaceful up here. Safer for Mr. Fu. At least until I manage to clear all the corners and doors at the necropolis in the desert. Then maybe it might be ok for him to stay out there."
  42.
  43. Emrick nods "Right, gotcha." he takes a swig of his beer "You ever get a day off, or are you always on Fu jobs?"
  44.
  45. "Idle hands are the workshop of the Yama Kings," says Mo solemnly. "A great conflict is coming. Mr. Fu, he might be all that stands between us and an inauspicious turning of the age." A pause. "'sides, I wouldn't know what to do with a day off anyway."
  46.
  47. Emrick raises an eyebrow at that "Surfing, a movie, dancing, hiking, camping, snowboarding, hell staying in bed and reading a book, watching movies all day." he nods
  48.
  49. "I'm a man of action, Em. I'd be a dull blade if I missed a day of sharpening." A wry smile and then he knocks back the last of the beer in his bottle. "But I do enjoy my time out here. Beer. Music. The great outdoors. Just don't tell Fu I'm slacking."
  50.
  51. Emrick rolls his eyes a bit "Fu can deal, he's not in charge of you. Sounds like you're doing an awful lot for him, he can cope if you decide to stay in and uh, sharpen your blade, all day." he smirks
  52.
  53. "Well, he's not, not technically, no. But he and I do have a bargain, and I honor my bargains," offers Mo pensively. "Besides, he's helped look after me since I was a kid on the streets. Weren't for him, I wouldn't have ever met the Captain and signed on as one of the Irregulars."
  54.
  55. Emrick nods "Right, like back before world war one." he says with a bit of a raised eyebrow.
  56.
  57. Mo nods. "Those were the best days of my life. Things seemed a lot simpler. Or if not simpler, as if there was a lot more clarity to things." A grin, "Seeing the world's more interesting quirks was pretty nifty keen too."
  58.
  59. Emrick finishes off his beer and looks around "Is there somewhere we can talk even more privately? If not we could go back to my place?"
  60.
  61. "C'mon, we can go upstairs. I think Fu is out flying." Mo grabs another pair of beers in bottles and head on up.

  66.
  67. A simple loft style apartment. The space is one single open floor plan. There's an area that serves as a kitchen. A bathroom. A bed that is neatly made and a wardrobe. The windows are large, floor to ceiling affairs. Heavy drapes serve to keep out the sunlight when drawn. Exercise equipment is arrayed off to a corner of the room - a set of free weights including a bench, a barbell, a pair of dumbbells and various weight plates on a rack.

  71.
  72. Emrick comes in from Lucky Cat Roadhouse - Bar
  73. Emrick has arrived.
  74.
  75. "WWI was an interesting time, y'know? The Chinese people, my father's people, suffered political chaos, economic weakness, and social misery," says Mo. "But this was also a period of excitement, hope, high expectations, optimism and new dreams. He met my mother in England. That's where I was conceived."
  76.
  77. Emrick follows Mo upstairs and listens nodding. "Ok, but like, sorry for asking, how are you still alive, and like young, and.." he motions towards Mo "..hot and stuff?"
  78.
  79. Mo ahs and nods at Em's question, then he tosses the man an unopened beer bottle. "Have a seat, and I'll tell you." He motions for the man to pull up a chair at a small table, then opens his own beer bottle and knocks back a drink. Then he gives a small sigh. "Those Yama Kings I was telling you about? One of them? Was my father. Well, maybe not a king, exactly, but a Baron at least."
  80.
  81. Emrick pops the beer open and drinks some "So your father was a baron of yama? a baron of death?" he wrinkles his nose "that sounds bad."
  82.
  83. Mo nods, and looks over his shoulder, as if even talking about such things might invite catastrophe. "I'm not immortal, not the way he is. Because my mum, she was just ... wonderfully, beautifully mortal." His expression hardens a bit at a thought. "So instead, I'm stuck in-between, neither immortal, nor mortal." A smile. "But Fu? Fu's been around since right after The Beginning. Can you imagine? I've only got maybe a century and change walking around. Fu has /millenia/."
  84.
  85. Emrick shakes his head, "I can't no, as far as I know I'm perfectly mortal, though with my amnesia, who knows to be honest." he takes another swig "Uh, thanks for explaining everything to me, I promise I won't tell other people." he nods
  86.
  87. Mo shrugs, "Not that most anyone would believe it, so no worries. I used to be real big on the whole alter ego/secret identity thing when I was a Irregular after the war. A Mystery Man the called us. But these days? Pft."
  88.
  89. Mo looks at Emrick thoughtfully. "Em, do you think - do you think I'm crazy for wanting to bring the Irregulars back to life, so to speak. Like, you could be one! With me. We could find a few others."
  90.
  91. Emrick nods "Right, guess it gets old living with secrets and all that." he takes another swig of his beer "Since we're sharing I should tell you that I uh, am gay. Not that that has to change our friendship or anything, but figure it's just easier to tell you then have it be a surprise, not that I think you'd care or whatever." he takes another drink and is about to say something else but stops as he hears Mo's question "Uh, I'd have to know more about them to answer that question." is what he responds
  92.
  93. Mo nods, "I've told you about the Captain. Captain Levinbolt and his Omni-Gun. There was the Ouroboros, she was something else. Orson, who was the avatar of the Phoenix, and one of the Brothers of Akasha." There's a wistfulness to Mo's voice. Then he looks back to Em. "Why would it change our friendship? Captain Levinbolt was gay. And he was like, my idol."
  94.
  95. Emrick nods "Right, cool, I didn't think you would care." he nods "Uh, that all sounds like super mystical stuff, what was like, their mission though?"
  96.
  97. "To protect and defend the middle kingdom, what we call Earth, from threats beyond the mortal realm. Fu was their benefactor. He's been at this thing for a long time."
  98.
  99. Emrick nods "Ah, gotcha, I dunno if I'd be any good at that to be honest, I can't really see otherworldly things or anything."
  100.
  101. "Anyway, consider yourself officially invited. Once we have the zeppelin? Sky's the limit! I'm figuring out how to navigate the All-Nexus Engine using sorcery. And, like, are you for real? You're brilliant at making stuff. The Irregulars need a maker. The Captain was one. He figured out how to make aether goggles that gave him sight he otherwise lacked. Maybe we can find his schematics or field notes."
  102.
  103. Emrick nods "Maybe, and that would be cool." he thinks for a moment "It depends, I'm in other groups, so agreeing to join another one would draw away from my loyalties to the ones I'm in, is what I'm afraid of, if your codes we're like really, all conclusive."
  104.
  105. "The Irregulars had a charter. We could make a new one for ourselves. Using theirs as a model. I mean, they all had their own thing, y'know? But when there was business to handle, they came together and made it work. I mean, if the Oroubouros and the Phoenix could make it work, and they were an /unlikely/ pairing, then, man, anything is possible."
  106.
  107. Emrick nods "For now I think I'm good with just being you're friend you can call on if you need, and we can play everything else by ear. If that's cool?"
  108.
  109. Mo nods and then looks around, "Aw, man, I gotta get stuff ready for Fu. But then I can head into Prospect maybe."
