- Sasebo Naval District Anthology, Volume 10, Chapter 4
- Title: Bingo Fuel * A rather figurative translation
- Author: Sakazaki Freddy (http://www.pixiv.net/member.php?id=41611)
- Original Dump: http://desuarchive.org/a/thread/137618690/
- Typeset: https://bato.to/reader#4de174fd537fa42f ; https://danbooru.donmai.us/pools/12662 ; https://desuarchive.org/a/thread/137618690#p137627889 (out of order)
- There are two relavant terms in this chapter, the first of which is 補給用燃料 and the second 搭載燃料
- The former is oil meant for refueling other ships, while the latter is oil for a ship's own boilers
- Techncially, the former is considered part of the ship's cargo while the latter is separately classified as "bunkerage" or "stowage"
- To make the distinction clearer I chose to translate the former as "fuel payload" and the latter as "fuel capacity"

- Panel 2
- SFX: Waves
- Hayasui: Somewhere around here, right?
- Ah?
- Panel 4
- Sign: Meeting Point
- Hayasui: There they are.
- Chiyoda: Hey~
- Hayasui: Out here, huh?
- ---
- Page 35
- Panel 1
- Hayasui: Is this the rendezvous point?
- (This small island...)
- Chitose: The main fleet should be here soon, go ahead and rest a bit.
- (Glad you're here)
- Panel 2
- Hayasui: To think they mobilized all of us for the supply operation, not to mention me...
- What kind of fleet is it?
- Mizuho: The operation was organized rather hastily,
- so we're not sure what fleet is coming either.
- Panel 3
- Chiyoda: They mustered up every ship with any experience transporting fuel for resupply
- and this is the most we could carry. It's got to be a pretty large-scale operation, right? * The same "large-scale" the devs use when referring to events
- (I'm tired~)
- Chitose: (There we go)
- Mizuho: [Huff, huff]
- Hayasui: Wow! Great job!!
- -
- Chitose's fuel payload (as seaplane tender):
- 2750 tons
- ※Measured in terms of heavy fuel oil
- -
- Chiyoda's fuel payload (as seaplane tender):
- 2750 tons
- As an aside, while carrying Type-A midget submarines her payload was:
- 1000 tons
- -
- Mizuho's fuel payload:
- 3348 tons
- -
- ---
- Page 36
- Panel 1
- Hayasui: Hmm?
- Shouhou-san, aren't you a light carrier?
- (Not that you can't help with the resupply, but...)
- -
- (Submarine tender) Taigei's fuel payload:
- 1070 tons
- -
- Shouhou's fuel payload (as submarine tender "Tsurugizaki"):
- 1870 tons
- -
- Shouhou: I was a submarine tender before I became a light carrier, so I was called up too
- (I'm not very good, though)
- Narration: As an aside, when construction began on Shouhou, she was designed to be convertible into a replenishment oiler with a fuel payload of 4000 tons
- Panel 2
- Hayasui: Then all together we've managed to gather up just over 20,000 tons of fuel!
- (21,588 tons total!)
- SFX: Clatter, roll
- -
- Hayasui's fuel payload:
- 9800 tons
- -
- Chiyoda: Nice!!
- Taigei: As expected of a dedicated ship!
- Panel 3
- Hayasui: Wait...
- What kind of fleet would consume this much...
- Mizuho: (We'll have to go to Orel-cruising and get more...) * Orel cruising can be shortened to "oryokuru", incidentally
- Hayasui: (Eh...
- they'll drink all this?)
- Taigei: (Hmm...)
- ---
- Page 37
- Panel 1
- Hayasui: (Even if the fuel isn't only for resupply but also for refuelling smaller ships from the larger ones, this is still...)
- Destroyers have a fuel capacity of around 400 - 600 tons, although Akizuki-san can stow 1000 tons.
- Light cruisers, around 900 - 1300 tons.
- And heavy cruisers, around 1400 - 2700 tons.
- There must be carriers or battleships, then. Is this resupply for some critical, long-distance mission...?
- -
- Fubuki (at construction):
- 475 tons
- -
- Nagara (at construction):
- Fuel oil 1260 tons
- Coal 350 tons
- -
- Atago (after remodel):
- 2318 tons
- -
- Panel 2
- -
- Kaga (after remodel):
- 7500 tons
- -
- Akagi (after remodel):
- 5700 tons
- -
- As an aside, carrier Shinano stowed a whopping
- 9000 tons
- -
- SFX: Rumble
- Hayasui: Kaga-san seems to hold quite a bit of fuel, doesn't she?
- Taigei: Akagi-san isn't half-bad either.
- (All the carriers can drink a lot)
- Panel 3
- Hayasui: Yamato-san's a possibility as well...
- (That'd explain things...)
- Yamato: I'm right here, you know?
- -
- Yamato's fuel capacity:
- 6400 tons
- -
- Panel 4
- Hayasui: (Oh~)
- Yamato-san and Houshou-san!
- Houshou: (I'm great at both Japanese and Western cuisine, you know?)
- Yamato: (I'll show you the true strength of the Yamato hotel!)
- Irako: (The giant croquettes and steaks are finished)
- Mamiya: Since we're going through all this trouble anyway, we might as well have some food with the supplies. They came to help with the cooking.
- ---
- Page 38
- Panel 1
- Hayasui: That's a lot of food, isn't it?
- Irako: As far as food goes, we can easily handle even a large-scale fleet!
- -
- Mamiya carried enough food to feed 18,000 people for 3 weeks and
- Irako carried enough to feed 25,000 people for 2 weeks!
- -
- Panel 2
- Irako: We were told there'd be several foreign shipgirls, so there's a bit more Western cuisine.
- Hayasui: Really!
- Mamiya: Ah, there they are.
- Nagato: We're here for supplies~!
- Chitose: Eh?
- There's only four?
- Panel 3
- Hayasui: Wait, an all-battleship comp!? (No wonder...)
- Is this enough fuel...?
- Littorio: Don't worry, we don't have big appetites. It's plenty.
- -
- Vittorio Veneto-class fuel capacity:
- 4210 tons
- -
- Panel 4
- Hayasui: Is that so? Italians always seemed to have this image of being big eaters...
- (Then what are the national traits?)
- Roma: What a stereotype.
- (Small portions but limited range) * Italian ships were not intended to roam much outside the Mediterranean
- Littorio: Thanks for the meal~
- -
- Nagato's fuel capacity (after remodel):
- 5780 tons
- At the time of construction, 3400 tons of coal and
- 1600 tons of fuel oil
- -
- Panel 5
- Hayasui: Even with the two Italians and Nagato-san drinking as much as they can, we still have 7388 tons to go... all that's left is Bismarck-san...
- ---
- Page 39
- Panel 1
- Hayasui: 7000 tons or so should be plenty...
- right?
- SFX: Chug, chug, chug, chug, chug...
- -
- Bismarck's fuel capacity:
- 8700 tons
- As of December 1, 2015, the highest of any fully implemented ship, * The aforementioned Shinano never completed fitting before being sunk
- not counting fuel payload * The Bismarck-class battleships were designed to operate over an extended range due to the lack of German bases overseas
- -
- Panel 2
- SFX: Burp
- Toss
- Splash
- Stretch
- Bismarck: Yes, it's a bit lacking.
- SFX: Mouth hanging
- Mamiya: Oh my...
- Panel 3
- Kaga: It seems a rival threatening the pride of CarDiv 1 has appeared!
- Narration: The Naval District's fuel supplies continued to be exhausted today.
