  1. Sasebo Naval District Anthology, Volume 10, Chapter 4
  2. Title: Bingo Fuel * A rather figurative translation
  3. Author: Sakazaki Freddy (http://www.pixiv.net/member.php?id=41611)
  4. Original Dump: http://desuarchive.org/a/thread/137618690/
  5. Typeset: https://bato.to/reader#4de174fd537fa42f ; https://danbooru.donmai.us/pools/12662 ; https://desuarchive.org/a/thread/137618690#p137627889 (out of order)
  6.
  7. There are two relavant terms in this chapter, the first of which is 補給用燃料 and the second 搭載燃料
  8. The former is oil meant for refueling other ships, while the latter is oil for a ship's own boilers
  9. Techncially, the former is considered part of the ship's cargo while the latter is separately classified as "bunkerage" or "stowage"
  10. To make the distinction clearer I chose to translate the former as "fuel payload" and the latter as "fuel capacity"
  11.

  13. Panel 2
  14. SFX: Waves
  15. Hayasui: Somewhere around here, right?
  16. Ah?
  17.
  18. Panel 4
  19. Sign: Meeting Point
  20. Hayasui: There they are.
  21. Chiyoda: Hey~
  22. Hayasui: Out here, huh?
  23.
  24. ---
  25.
  26. Page 35
  27. Panel 1
  28. Hayasui: Is this the rendezvous point?
  29. (This small island...)
  30. Chitose: The main fleet should be here soon, go ahead and rest a bit.
  31. (Glad you're here)
  32.
  33. Panel 2
  34. Hayasui: To think they mobilized all of us for the supply operation, not to mention me...
  35. What kind of fleet is it?
  36. Mizuho: The operation was organized rather hastily,
  37. so we're not sure what fleet is coming either.
  38.
  39. Panel 3
  40. Chiyoda: They mustered up every ship with any experience transporting fuel for resupply
  41. and this is the most we could carry. It's got to be a pretty large-scale operation, right? * The same "large-scale" the devs use when referring to events
  42. (I'm tired~)
  43. Chitose: (There we go)
  44. Mizuho: [Huff, huff]
  45. Hayasui: Wow! Great job!!
  46.
  47. -
  48. Chitose's fuel payload (as seaplane tender):
  49. 2750 tons
  50. ※Measured in terms of heavy fuel oil
  51. -
  52. Chiyoda's fuel payload (as seaplane tender):
  53. 2750 tons
  54. As an aside, while carrying Type-A midget submarines her payload was:
  55. 1000 tons
  56. -
  57. Mizuho's fuel payload:
  58. 3348 tons
  59. -
  60.
  61. ---
  62.
  63. Page 36
  64. Panel 1
  65. Hayasui: Hmm?
  66. Shouhou-san, aren't you a light carrier?
  67. (Not that you can't help with the resupply, but...)
  68.
  69. -
  70. (Submarine tender) Taigei's fuel payload:
  71. 1070 tons
  72. -
  73. Shouhou's fuel payload (as submarine tender "Tsurugizaki"):
  74. 1870 tons
  75. -
  76.
  77. Shouhou: I was a submarine tender before I became a light carrier, so I was called up too
  78. (I'm not very good, though)
  79. Narration: As an aside, when construction began on Shouhou, she was designed to be convertible into a replenishment oiler with a fuel payload of 4000 tons
  80.
  81. Panel 2
  82. Hayasui: Then all together we've managed to gather up just over 20,000 tons of fuel!
  83. (21,588 tons total!)
  84. SFX: Clatter, roll
  85.
  86. -
  87. Hayasui's fuel payload:
  88. 9800 tons
  89. -
  90.
  91. Chiyoda: Nice!!
  92. Taigei: As expected of a dedicated ship!
  93.
  94. Panel 3
  95. Hayasui: Wait...
  96. What kind of fleet would consume this much...
  97. Mizuho: (We'll have to go to Orel-cruising and get more...) * Orel cruising can be shortened to "oryokuru", incidentally
  98. Hayasui: (Eh...
  99. they'll drink all this?)
  100. Taigei: (Hmm...)
  101.
  102. ---
  103.
  104. Page 37
  105. Panel 1
  106. Hayasui: (Even if the fuel isn't only for resupply but also for refuelling smaller ships from the larger ones, this is still...)
  107. Destroyers have a fuel capacity of around 400 - 600 tons, although Akizuki-san can stow 1000 tons.
  108. Light cruisers, around 900 - 1300 tons.
  109. And heavy cruisers, around 1400 - 2700 tons.
  110. There must be carriers or battleships, then. Is this resupply for some critical, long-distance mission...?
  111.
  112. -
  113. Fubuki (at construction):
  114. 475 tons
  115. -
  116. Nagara (at construction):
  117. Fuel oil 1260 tons
  118. Coal 350 tons
  119. -
  120. Atago (after remodel):
  121. 2318 tons
  122. -
  123.
  124. Panel 2
  125. -
  126. Kaga (after remodel):
  127. 7500 tons
  128. -
  129. Akagi (after remodel):
  130. 5700 tons
  131. -
  132. As an aside, carrier Shinano stowed a whopping
  133. 9000 tons
  134. -
  135.
  136. SFX: Rumble
  137. Hayasui: Kaga-san seems to hold quite a bit of fuel, doesn't she?
  138. Taigei: Akagi-san isn't half-bad either.
  139. (All the carriers can drink a lot)
  140.
  141. Panel 3
  142. Hayasui: Yamato-san's a possibility as well...
  143. (That'd explain things...)
  144. Yamato: I'm right here, you know?
  145.
  146. -
  147. Yamato's fuel capacity:
  148. 6400 tons
  149. -
  150.
  151. Panel 4
  152. Hayasui: (Oh~)
  153. Yamato-san and Houshou-san!
  154. Houshou: (I'm great at both Japanese and Western cuisine, you know?)
  155. Yamato: (I'll show you the true strength of the Yamato hotel!)
  156. Irako: (The giant croquettes and steaks are finished)
  157. Mamiya: Since we're going through all this trouble anyway, we might as well have some food with the supplies. They came to help with the cooking.
  158.
  159. ---
  160.
  161. Page 38
  162. Panel 1
  163. Hayasui: That's a lot of food, isn't it?
  164. Irako: As far as food goes, we can easily handle even a large-scale fleet!
  165.
  166. -
  167. Mamiya carried enough food to feed 18,000 people for 3 weeks and
  168. Irako carried enough to feed 25,000 people for 2 weeks!
  169. -
  170.
  171. Panel 2
  172. Irako: We were told there'd be several foreign shipgirls, so there's a bit more Western cuisine.
  173. Hayasui: Really!
  174. Mamiya: Ah, there they are.
  175. Nagato: We're here for supplies~!
  176. Chitose: Eh?
  177. There's only four?
  178.
  179. Panel 3
  180. Hayasui: Wait, an all-battleship comp!? (No wonder...)
  181. Is this enough fuel...?
  182. Littorio: Don't worry, we don't have big appetites. It's plenty.
  183.
  184. -
  185. Vittorio Veneto-class fuel capacity:
  186. 4210 tons
  187. -
  188.
  189. Panel 4
  190. Hayasui: Is that so? Italians always seemed to have this image of being big eaters...
  191. (Then what are the national traits?)
  192. Roma: What a stereotype.
  193. (Small portions but limited range) * Italian ships were not intended to roam much outside the Mediterranean
  194. Littorio: Thanks for the meal~
  195.
  196. -
  197. Nagato's fuel capacity (after remodel):
  198. 5780 tons
  199. At the time of construction, 3400 tons of coal and
  200. 1600 tons of fuel oil
  201. -
  202.
  203. Panel 5
  204. Hayasui: Even with the two Italians and Nagato-san drinking as much as they can, we still have 7388 tons to go... all that's left is Bismarck-san...
  205.
  206. ---
  207.
  208. Page 39
  209. Panel 1
  210. Hayasui: 7000 tons or so should be plenty...
  211. right?
  212. SFX: Chug, chug, chug, chug, chug...
  213.
  214. -
  215. Bismarck's fuel capacity:
  216. 8700 tons
  217. As of December 1, 2015, the highest of any fully implemented ship, * The aforementioned Shinano never completed fitting before being sunk
  218. not counting fuel payload * The Bismarck-class battleships were designed to operate over an extended range due to the lack of German bases overseas
  219. -
  220.
  221. Panel 2
  222. SFX: Burp
  223. Toss
  224. Splash
  225. Stretch
  226. Bismarck: Yes, it's a bit lacking.
  227. SFX: Mouth hanging
  228. Mamiya: Oh my...
  229.
  230. Panel 3
  231. Kaga: It seems a rival threatening the pride of CarDiv 1 has appeared!
  232. Narration: The Naval District's fuel supplies continued to be exhausted today.
  233. END
