Chapter 1 - Public morals unrest

A single man ran through a back alley where the moon’s light did not reach.
“Haa… haa…”
It was the middle of May. Even though it was already summer on the calendar, the nights were still cool and refreshing.
Even so, sweat was all over his plain-looking face, distorted by agony.
“Haa… haa… haa… haa…”
There were two types of people who ran through back alleys.
The pursuer and the pursued.
The man was the latter. There was no doubt about it.
Even though he was running through an impenetrable darkness, the fact that he was constantly looking back and forth was undeniable proof about it.
And if there was someone being pursued, there was naturally a pursuer.
“Hold it!”
Several men and women poured into the back alley.
“Stop now!”
But no idiot would wait or stop after he was told to.
Instead, the man sped up, dashing through the alley like a swift wind.
The distance between the pursuer and the pursued grew once again-
“Alright, we cornered him!”
A human wall appeared in front, cornering him in a pincer attack.
While it may have seemed like the man was doomed to his fate, he made an unexpected move instead.
“Oaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!”
He charged straight through.
And something unbelievable happened as a result of this ordinarily stupid plan.
“You’re in the wayyyy!”
It was like a truck had collided into them, leaving the man to dance in the empty space. His extraordinary power had torn apart the human wall as if it was paper from a sliding door.
“Ugh… you monster!”
While being surrounded by screams, the man showed a smile on his face.
...He had gotten away.
After all, they were just humans. The “strength” that he had was just different from theirs. They were weaklings who would get blown away even at the slightest breeze. And what just happened further reinforced his belief. He had freed himself from the shackles of the inferior race, and had been reborn into a greater existence.
“Yes! That’s it! No one can stop me anymore!”
It was clear that his speed and strength had exceeded that of a human’s limits, yet he looked no different from one. Looking closely, however, two fangs had slowly developed in his mouth.
“Gyahahahahahahaha!”
His feelings overflowed.
Fun. Happy. Interesting.
He had found the light in his meaningless world.
“Ha…”
However, the ground that suddenly appeared in front of his eyes ruined it all.
“Ha?”
He had fallen down.
Unable to place his hands on the ground to brace himself, the man’s face crashed into the asphalt.
“Gragh!”
Something unexpected happened right as he was having his delusions of grandeur.
Did he trip over something?
He checked his underfoot.
There was nothing suspicious, but something that was supposed to be there was missing.
Falling down was perfectly natural. Because all the leg below one of his knees.had completely disappeared.
“Eh, ah, uh, gya, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!”
He screamed and stumbled across the alley.
“Ah, I see, I see.”
A voice came calling out to the pathetic man in immense pain.
“You’re not going to regenerate? I guess you’re only that rank after all.”
It was a boy with brilliant red hair that looked like paint had been thrown onto it.
He looked like he was in the middle of his teens, wearing a school uniform with a jet-black collar. Other than his hair, he looked like any regular high schooler.
”Hanabusa Mitsuru. 21 years old. A third year at Akagane University Management School. Member of the Ozuma Seminar. Member of the Tennis and Light Music clubs. Note: Has no girlfriend.”
“Who the hell are you?”
“Nice to meet you. My name is Shingu Ibuki. I’m part of the Vamp Kill Squad.
“Vamp Kill Squad… shit, you must be with with those nuisances from earlier.”
“I’m also the one who blew away your leg.”
“You…”
The man looked at him with immense resentment.
But the boy known as Shingu took it all in stride and asked another question with a light tone.
“By the way, how does it feel?”
“Huh?”
“Don’t you feel the excitement of being pushed into a corner, where maybe a new power hidden within you awakens, or your current powers get an upgrade?”
He didn’t understand what the boy was saying, but the blunt way that the boy spoke was enough to anger him.
“The fuck you talking about?!”
The unsightly man on his hands and knees stood up through sheer anger. Blood flowed out of his legless knee like a waterfall, and he had to balance by digging his other foot into the ground.
“Impressive. Even though you were just reincarnated, for you to have that much “superhuman strength”, it’s no wonder my rookies were all taken out.”
The boy dryly clapped twice.
“But it’s too bad. With such a wonderful special power, you caused such an attack.
Attack. The boy’s words reached the man’s ears and caused him to tremble.
“The attack on the Redology Group’s building. The outer wall was half destroyed, and the interior was wrecked. 157 student casualties.”
“I see you know much about it. Am I a celebrity now?”
“Variety shows were interrupted to show a special report regarding it.”
“Of course! Mass media can’t ignore a star like me!”
The boy expressionlessly responded to the guffawing man with a question.
“Why did you do it?”
“I did it so that society can see my true value.”
The faint smile on the man’s face was that of a mentally ill person. It was that of someone who was only superficially human.
“I see. I get what kind of person you are.”
“Yes. I, the chosen one, and the masses over there-”
“You’re a piece of shit.”
The boy spat out those words.
“You’re the chosen one, but you’re nothing. You’re just a brat who’s waving around a toy you happened upon.”
Without hiding his scorn, the boy struck at the man’s complexes with his words.
“That’s all there is. You might have acquired a special ability, but you haven’t changed one bit. If anything, the only thing that’s changed are those two teeth.”
“Hey, shut the fuck up.”
“And the more I look at you, the more boring your face becomes. It’s like it’s one step down from a regular galge protagonist’s face in every single way, with not a single appeal point at all. You’re a wonderful failure at all sorts of minor things with no personality whatsoever.”
“Shut the fuck up.”
“That’s why you can’t get a girlfriend.”
“...I’ll kill you.”
Bagiri. A dreadful sound was heard.
“I’llkillyouI’llkillyouI’llkillyouI’llkillyouI’llkillyouI’llkillyou. I’ll kill whoever the fuck dares to treat me like an idiot.”
He gathered his body on one leg with his “superhuman strength”, fissured the ground by putting pressure on it and ran.
“What a fighter.”
But the boy wasn’t perturbed.
“If it’s to that extent, then one hit should be enough.”
“DON’T MAKE LIGHT OF MEEEEEEEEEEEEE!”
Gathering all the energy from his anger, the man sprung at the boy with an explosive speed.
“Alright, it’s over.”
Just as the boy said, the man’s life vanished in the next instant.
