- Jack returned to his hotel room after seeing Matty home going straight for his bag and fishing out a small business card. After a moment glancing at it he pulled out his cell phone and dialed the number on it figuring a normal phone call might be best for mortal business man in the middle of the day.
- Alivi:
- Adrian was working late it was near midnight and he knew he would have to turn in soon or else alhena was going to nag his ear off about resting more. The smith yawned and moved a bit over slightly in the cave he was in. Signal was bad when you were this deep in... He saw the light on his phone go off but he ignored it. Picking up a call in here on a phone would just mean it'd drop. If it was a customer a message left to be returned later would be better.
- He exhaled and took a small brush and slowly began to unearth a new stone this one looked nice...
- The phone for Jack continues to ring before a voice finally sounds:
- "You've reached Adrian Smith's Voicemail. I'm unable to take your call now so please leave your name and phone number and I will return your call promptly. If you need to call the shop that number is xxx-xxxx-xxx. Thank you."
- The message is repeated in German
- Lady Archive:
- At the sound of a voice Jack opened his mouth to greet the man before he realized he was listening to a pre-recorded message. He gave a small sigh, his shoulders drooping in disappointment as he listened to the instructions to leave a message. “Hi, Mr. Smith. My name’s Jack Kelly. I...uh...I had some questions about your communication crystals. It’s...well sort of a long story but if you could call me back at xxx-xxx-xxxx when you get this. I’ve also got one of your crystals...uh...if that’s easier.” He knew the message likely sounded anxious but the excitement at having an actual lead only to be delayed made it difficult to keep focused. With that he hung up and dropped into a nearby chair.
- Alivi:
- So it is 6am and Jacks crystal begins to glow a bright fiery Orange
- Adrian checks his watch should be good enough for an American
- Lady Archive:
- As soon as he hung up Jack realized that he had probably called in the middle of the night for Adrian...which explained why he hadn’t answered. He did his best to distract himself for the rest of the day before falling into a somewhat restless sleep. He was beginning to stir with the sunrise when he noticed his crystal glowing a bright orange. Instantly his hand touched the crystal as a rush of anticipation had him sitting bolt upright. “Hello,” he answered. “Mr. Smith?” He guessed the only person he expected the unfamiliar color to represent.
- Alivi:
- Adrian smiled as he watched his own crystal turn into an amber color. That was unique. The voice however seemed... He couldn't place the emotion.
- "Yes, this is Adrian. Good morning, sorry I couldn't return your call last night. If this is too early I'll be glad to call back at a later time."
- Lady Archive:
- “No, no, now’s fine,” Jack replied hastily, not wanting to postpone the chance to get some information any longer. “And sorry ‘bout calling so late. Hadn’t thought about the time difference.” Never having travelled beyond the States he had not thought much about what other countries times were.
- Alivi:
- "It's fine- don't worry about it. Happens quite often"
- "So you had some questions about the communication crystals?"
- Lady Archive:
- A small smile crossed Jack’s features, glad that his call had not disrupted anything for the man. “Yeah...I’m friends with a customer of yours, Loretta,” he began to explain. Jack had no idea if he would remember every customer he had, especially by first name only but he figured it couldn’t hurt to give as much information as possible. “And well she...she’s been missing for awhile now and I was wondering...is there a way you can track where the crystals you made are?”
- Alivi:
- Adrian's brow furrowed slightly. This was a rather strange scenario. His father likely encountered it but this was a first. The idea that a customer of his was missing was already not good but this Jack was asking about tracking... And there could be a chance always with cases like these that the person didn't want to be found.
- "I might need to know more information. And I do want to make sure you are actually a friend of hers..." He said trailing off, "but yes technically tracking is possible."
- Adrian twisted one of the rings on his finger and began to flip through records of his sales. There'd be something in here...surely
- Lady Archive:
- Jack listened to Adrian’s response. He felt a rush of relief at the man’s final words, it actually was possible. Even if he might need more information and proof of Jack’s relationship...which given what had happened with Mel...even if it did pose a challenge he was actually relieved the man wanted to check that.
- “That’s great,” he replied, his tone full of relief. “I’m happy to give you whatever information you need. She’s the one who bought the crystal I’m using now...don’t know if she would’ve mentioned why she was buying it though.” He offered, honestly not sure how he could prove he was a friend to Loretta and voicing the first idea he had.
- Alivi:
- Adrian was listening and reading and he then found it. "Loretta.... Black to dark brown hair and green eyes? She doesn't list her last name so I don't have a record but she is the last Loretta to visit my shop.... When did you get your crystal from her?"
- Lady Archive:
- “That’s her,” Jack replied with a nod even if it couldn’t be seen. “She gave it to me this past spring,” he replied, pausing a moment as he tried to think back to the specific time they were in Monterey. “Some time in May.” (don’t think we actually set a month for that thread...so hopefully that works)
- Alivi:
- "Right and she last came a bit before around April or so... So it checks out. Also there is a note with your name on it here.... Jack Kelly... Yep. Checks out."
- Adrian tilted his head- so a customer of his was missing. That... Was concerning.
- Lady Archive:
- Apparently Loretta had mentioned him when she bought the crystal, which was a good thing as it did help confirm who he was. He thought he noticed a hint of something, maybe worry in the man’s voice. The news of someone missing probably did give him reason to be concerned but Jack figured he would need to give the full story to explain his, likely strange, request of tracking someone. “Is there anything else you need to know?” He asked unsure if just the record would be enough to satisfy the man.
- Alivi:
- "Well..." Adrian began he was starting to struggle to phrase what needed to be said in English. "I guess when was the last time you heard from her... "
- Lady Archive:
- “A week ago,” Jack answered. “She called me in the evening but then a few hours later something...weird happened. My crystal showed her color but I only caught a few broken up words of someone else calling for help. Then the crystal sorta went dark for a bit before it changed back to my color and I haven’t get any answer trying to call her back with it.”
- Alivi:
- Adrian's eyes widened.
- "Wait so it went dark how?"
- Lady Archive:
- Jack was not surprised that the crystal’s strange behavior was important to the maker. But it was hard to read his tone as to whether it was something he’d encountered before or not. “Her green faded out and turned grey. I think it stayed that way for a second or two before it went back to normal.” He explained, doing his best to pick out as many details as he could amid his panicked memories of that night.
- Alivi:
- "...grey." Adrian repeated. He felt a coldness spread this was not the type of conversation he wanted to have.
- He took a breath. "Listen....Mr.kelly..."
- Lady Archive:
- This time it was clear in Adrian’s voice that whatever he did or didn’t know about it...he had bad news. He remained silent, his heart pounding against his chest as the man spoke.
- Alivi:
- "I inherited this job from my late father. And some things I'm still learning. But he did leave behind records and books and one of the things he left was on the nature of communication crystals. It's pretty rare for this to happen naturally...so..." He cleared his throat, "according to the research and records I've done as well as my own experiences.... This type of phenomena happens after both stones made a strong connection of sorts. There is a strong likelihood that even if we do track it..."
- He really didn't know how to say this
- Lady Archive:
- The crystal’s behavior meant they had a strong connection? Well, that was true. But...having a connection, a bond, shouldn’t that have helped the situation? Made it easier? But it was obvious that was not what Adrian was trying to say and Jack was not quite sure he wanted to hear the rest of the trailed off sentence. “Lori mentioned that they’re effected by magic,” he spoke after the man had paused which definitely did not bode well. “If-if there was a lot of magic being used around her...could that have caused it?” He knew it was a long shot, but voicing anything else simply was not an option for the newsie.
- Alivi:
- "No magical interferences don't typically cause that sort of issue..." Adrian said. "People who've reported this and similar issues... The person in question usually... There is no magic to resonate with."
- Lady Archive:
- “No magic...” Jack echoed, feeling as if a stone had just dropped into his stomach. It...wasn’t the worst phrasing he could have used but Loretta was an immortal being. Could she have been cut off from her magic and still be...still be alive? “I see,” he replied, trying and failing to keep his voice from shaking. “I-if you could...look into tracking it still...I- I need to know for sure.” He added, his mind stubbornly refusing to accept the implications. Someone had been trying to help Loretta which meant there had to be some hope for her and he was going to cling to that hope no matter how slim. He had to.
- Alivi:
- Adrian felt awful... He could hear jacks voice trembling. He took a deep breath, "first things first... I want you to take a look at your own crystal. Is there any physical damage?"
- Lady Archive:
- That request surprised Jack but he did as he asked, holding up the crystal and looking at it from every angle. “No...it looks perfectly fine.” He replied, still confused but hoping that at least was a good sign.
- Alivi:
- Adrian exhaled, "typically in the worst case scenarios the crystal of a person close to the... Well the crystal sometimes will sustain damage like cracks or fractures from the bond breaking... At least that is my thinking behind it. If yours is fine then..." He nodded, "right in order to do the tracking I'll have to meet with you or get to my forge. If you are in America it might take me a bit... But my workshop is only a couple days worth of travel.... Bout two to three if I rush it."
- Lady Archive:
- Jack released a breath he had not realized he was holding at the answer. The greying still was concerning but the fact that his crystal remained in tact was a sign that Loretta might still be out there. And he was going to keep reminding himself of that. Jack would have been willing to go Austria if it meant a better chance of finding Loretta but there was still his and Matty’s search here not to mention another major issue. “I don’t exactly have up to date papers...if you can make the trip...I can’t tell you how grateful I am.”
- Alivi:
- "Right." Adrian's brow rose at that if this Jack was using magic... Adrian wanted to meet him.
- "I'll start working on supplies and what not... Still will take a bit but I'll keep you posted."
- Lady Archive:
- “Thank you,” Jack replied, his tone making it clear just how grateful he was for Adrian’s help and willingness to come out to meet with him.
- Alivi:
- "In any case, I should go." Adrian said as he began to get up- his mind moving quickly into a plan. "I'll be back in contact with you Mr.Kelly. If anything happens let me know."
