  1. TIMELINE FOR MIRACLE ON THE VISTULA
  2. 1768 - Formation of the Bar Confederacy and the subsequent civil war in Poland
  3. 1770 - Confederate defeats at Dobra and Błonie. Prussian occupation of Lauenburg and Bütow and Austrian occupation of Szepes County
  4. 1772 - Signing of the first agreement of partition in St. Petersberg. Second signing never occurs. Russian occupational forces march into their respective territories, yet Prussians hesitate. As such, war breaks out between Poland and Russia.
  5. 1775 - Russian forces defeat Commonwealth forces at the battle of Minsk. Both armies are devastated, but the Russians march on. Armistice is signed between the Bar Confederacy and Poland.
  6. 1776 - America signs their declaration of independence, formally starting the American revolution.
  7. 1779 - Polish forces barely hold on to the crossing at Puławy, becoming known as the Miracle at the Vistula.
  8. 1782 - Polish and Russian forces skirmish a total of 12 times in the countrysides surrounding Lublin.
  9. 1783 - Treaty of Paris is signed, formally ending the American Revolution.
  10. 1784 - Finland declares independence from Russia. Seeing a chance to weaken a European power and a way to rekindle war support after a devastating loss in America, Britain intervenes in the Polish-Russian war. In the midst of this, Russia signs the Treaty of Constantinople, receiving Crimea from the Ottomans and ending the war between them.
  11. 1785 - With British support in hand, the Poles deliver one final defeat to the Russians at the Battle of Białystok. They sign the Treaty of Tallinn, ceding eastern lands to Russia, but forcing Finland to be independent.
  12. 1789 - The French revolution devolves the Kingdom of France into a bloodbath of confusion. Washington is inaugurated as the first president.
  13. 1792 - War of the First Coalition, Napoleon Bonaparte repeatedly leads his armies to victories in Northern Italy
  14. 1797 - Treaty of Campo Formio is signed, ceding Austrian Netherlands to the French, and creating a few puppet governments loyal to France in northern Italy.
  15. 1799 - War of the Second Coalition, where France faces the combined forces of Austria, Britain, Russia, and Poland. This is also the year where Napoleon’s rise to power in France becomes official.
  16. 1801 - French armies see victories in northern Italy and the Netherlands once more, and negotiate the Treaties of Lunéville and Amiens.
  17. 1803 - War of the Third Coalition, where France sees one last victory against Austria as they humiliate the Empire by making it cede land to Bavaria. America Negotiates the Louisiana purchase.
  18. 1806 - War of the Fourth Coalition or War of the Last Coalition. Napoleon defeats the Prussians at the Battle of Schleiz, occupies Berlin and Brandenburg, forcing them to release Silesia, and begins marching eastward. He easily defeats a Polish Army at the Battle of Gdansk, and sweeps through a second one at the Battle of Olsztyn. Here, he makes a fatal mistake and underestimates the size and quality of the Polish army. Napoleon maneuvers eastward farther in preparation with a showdown with Russia.
  19. 1807 - Napoleon meets and defeats a Russian army at Mragowo and then a week later at Gizycko does the same. At Suwalki, he encounters the same Russian army. Yet this time, at the last minute, his forces are attacked from behind by a massive Polish army, 3 times the size of his own. The ensuing confusion of the battle forces him to retreat, leaving him with only a tenth of his army.
  20. 1808 - Napoleon retreats back west, begin what would later be referred to as the “Masurian Pursuit.” He would be forced back across the Vistula, where he would narrowly avoid loosing the rest of his army at the First Battle of Torun.
  21. 1809 - For the first time in centuries, Russian, German, Polish, Austrian, and British flags would be flown together at the Second Battle of Torun. News would also reach Napoleon of the British invasion of Normandie. He would be forced to return to France as Prussia is liberated by Poland.
  22. 1810-1814 - Napoleon retreats to France, there, he changes his tactics and begins skirmishing with British forces in Normandie keeping them distracted while he simultaneously attempts to tiptoe around a revolt against his reign and recruit for a new army. Meanwhile, in Germany, Polish and Russian armies begin cleaning up French influences in Germany, inadvertently setting up for the “Era of Polish Meddling” in Germany. Poland seizes control of Silesia.
  23. 18 June, 1815 - A combination Polish-British-German army defeats Napoleon, who is captured, then exiled to America, where he became a stout anti-slaver proponent.
