  1. Growing up the son of a well-known doctor had its perks, especially when it came to getting into medical school. Kain Mirran spent his entire childhood idolizing his mother and what she did. She was a world renown heart surgeon that was sought after for the most illustrious clientele. Though she was so renown, she always looked out for any clients she could get. Kayla Mirran grew up in the poor districts, she knew what poverty was like and she knew that if she could help those in need, she would. It was this drive to help people that inspired her son.
  2. Kain was always a very compassionate kid, he would give away pieces of his lunch in school to those who didn’t have one. He would stand up for kids being bullied even if it meant he would get beaten himself and he would always try to help those less fortunate than himself. He wasn’t what you would call rich but he wasn’t poverish. His mother was a surgeon in training at Harvard university, and was gaining renown. She was still in school but still making enough money to support them both.
  3. While Kain was in school he would find any excuse to go down to the nurse’s office, at first it was to watch and observe the goings on of the nurse’s office. But the more he went down there, the more he got involved. The nurses would only let him grab them things that they needed, but eventually they started to let him help other students. Between the nurses and his mother teaching him medical terms, he was getting good at helping people.
  4. By the time Kain hit Highschool he was reading all the medical books and journals he could get his hands on. He took classes that would get him closer to his goal, his goal of becoming a doctor. It wasn’t long before Kain started applying to all the best colleges and universities in the country, and with a recommendation from his mother, who at this point was world famous. He got accepted to all of them. Three years later and he was on his way to becoming a doctor, he had to first make it through pre-med then medical school, but he would do it.
  5. About three months into his third year of pre-med Kain got word that there was a car accident and that his mother was being taken into the hospital. Kain grabbed his things and started making his way down to the hospital. He never made it. As he rounded a corner onto a dark abandoned road leading towards downtown. A flash of bright white light descended around Kain’s car and then everything went black.
  6. Pain…. Pain was all he could feel as he awoke, a searing pain that tore its way through his body. Muffled voices could be heard along with the sound of humming. As his vision started to clear and the pain started to subside, the flickering light of candles could be made out among the dark interior of the room he was in. The cold stone floor was rough against his bare back as the voices he was hearing started to become clearer. He was not alone. Around him sat others, all seemingly to be of a similar age. They sat in groups and talked quietly as he started to raise himself onto his elbows.
  7.
  8. “Morning sleeping beauty” remarked one of the young men that sat across the room “My name is Mitchell and before you ask. I don’t know where we are, and I don’t know how we got here. Mind if I get your name. It would be a hassle to keep calling you sleeping beauty.”
  9. As he looked around the barren stone room, he started to wonder if he even knew his own name. He was starting to worry, because he couldn’t remember anything. He didn’t know who he was or where he came from…. Until a name came to him. A name that he knew couldn’t be anyone elses.
  10.
  11. “M… My name is Kain, Kain Mirran”
  12. As he started to stand up after having remembered his name, a loud noise could be heard from down a corridor that Kain was just now realizing was in the room. It sounded like something hitting the pale stone wall that made up the room they were in.
  13.
  14. “We were going to check out what was down there, but we decided to wait until everyone was awake.” Said Mitchell as he stood up.
  15. Another sound could be heard from down the dark corridor as the two girls in the room helped him to his feet. This time it was different though, this time it sounded more like the grinding of metal on metal.
  16. A young blonde girl grabbed him by the arm and began helping him to his feet. She couldn’t have been much younger than Kain, two years at most. “My name’s Merry” she remarked as another girl grabbed his other arm “And this is Yuzu.”
  17. They helped him to his feet and before long they were making their way down the dark corridor. Merry seems to be much to jovial given the current circumstance. Her companion though seemed much more focused, as if there was danger around every corner. They had been waking for about ten minutes before a light could be seen at the end of the tunnel. It started to grow brighter and as they rounded one last corner, they came face to face with a large rusted iron gate with oil lanterns hung nearby. It seemed old, very old, almost ancient in its design. It jutted from the surrounding rock as if it had been quickly put up in the hopes of keeping something out…. or in….
  18. It didn’t take the small group to long to unhinge one of the latches holding the gate closed and pry it open. On the other side of the gate sat a long reaching staircase that led up into the darkness. What waited at the top was anyone’s guess.
  19. “Ollie, Grab a few of those lanterns, I think this candle is almost at its end.” Said Mitchell to the last member of the group. The skinny looking boy quickly clambered up and using the iron gate as a ladder, managed to grab down two lanterns off the wall. He was quite nimble given his frail looking stature.
  20. The group of five made their way up the stairs and into what seemed like a tower of sorts. It was built like a tower but the interior layout made no sense. It had doors with no way up to them and staircases that seemingly led nowhere. Up in the higher levels of the tower, Kain could swear he even saw staircases that were upside down and even sideways. It was a bewildering site to behold, but the wonder was short lived as a door was thrown open on the far side of the main room and what could only be described as medieval soldiers walked in.
  21. Kain didn’t know what to make of what he was seeing, he didn’t know why but he knew that the armor and the weapons that the soldiers wielded seemed out of place compared to what he was used to. They didn’t belong here…. Or he didn’t belong here…. The soldiers made their way over to the small group of them, leading them was a woman with bright pink hair and simple leather armor. She had a dagger on her belt and seemed to walk with an authority that resembled that of a general to his army. She didn’t seem hostile, but Kain had the feeling that if she wanted to, she could easily put him in the ground. She told them that her name was Brianna and that they were in an old tower on the outskirts of Aurora City, the Human capital, and that if they wanted to make a decent living in the world they now found themselves in…. they were to be enlisted as volunteer soldiers.
  22. Kain wasn’t sure what this world held in store for him, he knew it wasn’t where he was from but he couldn’t remember anything from his past to prove otherwise. Alongside Mitchell and the others, Kain enlisted as a volunteer solider and was then evaluated and tested to see what skills he had. Unlike Mitchell and Ollie, Kain didn’t have an affinity for fighting, Even Yuzu picked it up faster than he did. He wasn’t very good at sneaking into places, or tending to plants or animals. It wasn’t until Mitchell got hurt during a training session, that Brianna and the rest realized what Kain’s calling was. Before anyone could react, and before Kain even realized what he was doing, he started tearing off a piece of his shirt and tending to the wound. He quickly made a split out of a training staff for Mitchells broken are and he even managed to stop the bleeding from where his bone was sticking out. It was all over in mere moments but it was enough to solidify Kain as a medicine man, a healer.
  23. Kain spent the next month with the clerical guild, learning how to harness the divine magic of Luminaris the goddess of light and life. It didn’t take him long to master it, and before he knew it, him and the rest of his friends were on their way to becoming a well-known adventuring party. Yuzu and Merry started forming a bond and Kain and Mitchell had become fast friends. They had hit a few road bumps along the way when it came to certain endeavors but they always pulled through. During one of their contracts, they were wandering through the elven forests to the east when they came upon a young elven man who was being attacked by a group of living trees. They had him cornered and beaten. Something triggered in Kain and without a second thought, he dove in front of a blow that surely would have killed the elven man.
  24. After a very short-lived battle, thanks to some wizard’s fire conjured by merry. The elven man was safe. He told them about how his brethren had cast him out to be killed by the treants, because they believed he committed a crime he did not. He told the party how his name was Azril and that he used a special form of magical technology to aid him in battle. Azril was accepted into the party and before long he had recreated what he had called his mechanical companion Solra. After that they were on their way.
  25. Kain, Yuzu, Mitchell, Ollie, Azril and Merry were an inseparable, undefeatable party. With time however, they grew arrogant. Upon seeing the 5,000 gold bounty on Death Spots, Mitchell exclaimed he would lead them into the mines, and return with the head of this cursed kobold.
  26. Things went well for the most part, until they reached Death Spots' lair. Mitchell was clearly outmatched, but holding on for his life barely deflecting blows from the massive kobold. Ollie ran in close to try and assist Mitchell, and was cut down in less than a second. Yuzu had to step over her fallen comrade's body to take his place in helping the party's leader. Azril was quick to fall after with his faithful companion Solra doing everything it could to protect his now broken body.
  27. As Kain did everything he could to heal Ollie from afar, and protect Merry from kobolds at the same time, he could tell the party was not going to make it out alive. Almost in sync with the thought, as he was fending off kobolds of his own, Merry was struck down. Solra followed soon after. At that moment Mitchell had the same thought as Kain, but a plan of his own. He commanded Yuzu to grab Kain and run, as far and as fast as they could. Yuzu obviously objected, saying she wasn't going to leave him here to die, to which he responded, "Do I look like I'm about to die here?" with the same grin that got them through so many adventures before.
  28. The party never saw Mitchell again, nor Ollie, Azril or Merry. Yuzu and Kain made it out alive, but despite trying could not be around each other or they would relive those painful memories every day. Yuzu was approached by Aegis, and offered a spot in Orion; a massive faction of hand-picked heroes that take on only the most important quests, and Kain bounced around from party to party for a while, never finding one he would settle with permanently until the day he got word that the Death spots contract was once again active. It didn’t take him long to gain passage up to Orzammar once again. This time with the hopes that he could do what he failed to do the last time. Protect those who would enter the mines and to defeat the cursed kobold once and for all.
