  1. Early Life
  2.
  3. Torbin Baile was born 18 years ago to his father, Arden Baile, and his mother. Arden had been a mercenary pikeman who retired and decided to settle down with his wife, a woman who he had met while under various contracts. A year after his birth, his mother left him and his father for reasons neither knew. After that, his father never spoke much of her to Torbin, and as such he doesn’t know anything about her. When Torbin came to 8 years of age, his father began to train him as a mercenary, teaching him to read and write among other things in those earlier years. The village he grew up in, a small, isolated hamlet by the name of Nesvell, had little for an aspiring mercenary, or any kind of adventurer to do, having been left alone by monsters and gangs of criminals for decades, though Arden and Torbin still found ways to train. At 18, Torbin left home to pursue his own life, using the teachings of his father to get by. Many things were new to him, such as the non-human races. Sure, he had heard of elves and dwarves from his father, but he had never seen any in person.

  5. Before Silverfern
  6.
  7. Before arriving in silverfern, Torbin had taken several jobs in towns and villages he had stopped in, usually helping to train militias and Levy troops, as well as clearing bandits and monsters from the countryside. While on one of these missions, one of the other members of the party that took it, another young man by the name of Idred Sevren; An arrogant, snide son of a wealthy merchant with a holier-than-thou attitude drew Torbin’s annoyance, which would last for several other jobs. This would end when Idred charged ahead of the group into a bandit hideout, and was caught in an ambush. As the rest of their party ran to help, they were quickly overwhelmed, and Torbin decided to cut his losses and convinced all but Idred to fall back. Stubborn as ever, the expensive armor that Idred wore did little to stop a crossbow bolt from striking his exposed head, killing him. When Idred’s father learned of this, he blamed Torbin for the death of his son, and swore that he would get him back for this. Torbin told him off, that Idred got himself killed for being an idiot who couldn’t tell when an encounter was sarded, and promptly left for greener pastures. During his travels, a young half-elf woman approached him, asking if he was Arden. He clarified that he wasn’t, but that he was Arden’s son. This is how Torbin learned of his fathers, rather promiscuous past, and how he presumably had many bastard children before settling down. Torbin is still learning much about the world, and had taken to trying to get information on all things from politics to the art of magic. When it comes to religion, Torbin has never given much thought to the deities that exist, and has taken a somewhat neutral stance, choosing not to worship any specific god.

  9. Arrival
  10.
  11. Ultimately, his travels would lead him to Nancy’s tavern, where he would battle the foul spawn of the lake’s dark god, engage J’teth infiltrators, assist in the tavern’s defense on more than one occasion, and faced the Infestor with other adventurers new to the area.
