  1. Excerpt from Architect Overseer Melindra's work log

  3. Five-Three of Mother's Warmth, Cycle XX
  4. We have finished the canal leading to Coiled Hills and work is well under way establishing the settlement in full. As I write this immigrants from the city as well as ferries bearing goods and supplies are already on their way now that water is properly flowing. We have been invited to partake in the mating festival, which should be good for my worker's morale, but we cannot stay longer than that as we already have new work orders for a river crossing to the south of The First Tree. The life of the working caste is arduous, but those who do not work do not eat.

  6. Two-Two of Sunset, Cycle XX
  7. The unbearable heat has finally subsided and work has begun on the ferry docks on either side of the great river. We hope to finish this project before Moonlight takes hold or it will be terribly slow going. Already we have been forced to work double time during the day after suffering two incidents of work injury thanks to the night's chill. I have sent a requisition for warmer clothes and heating implements but I doubt they will arrive in time without sufficiently greasing palms. Such is the life of the working caste.

  10. A fatality was reported on the job. One of my workers was snatched up by a monstrous fish while transporting supplies across the river. The job will be delayed until the hunters can secure the area, I do hope our merciful Iztacoatl understands the situation. As per tradition, mourning shall be observed and a ritual burning of their remaining belongings performed to hopefully put their soul at rest as her body cannot be returned to the Great Mother. The remainder of their commission for the season shall be passed onto their next of kin, I do not envy the poor woman who must inform their daughter of this news.

  13. The nights are becoming colder and the river has become sluggish. Thankfully this means no further predator sightings for the time being, and we are almost finished with the docks. I still await word from the shipwright on the ferry. Once finished we will begin work on the trade settlement the Iztacoatl requested, as well as the foundations for a land-route leading southward following rumors of large settlements in that direction. Upon receiving these new orders I advised the Iztacoatl to appoint a second Overseer and draft more of the working caste, I hope she does not take this as impertinence.

  15. Six-Three of Sunset, Cycle XX
  16. The dock is complete and the ferry in place. We are shipping supplies for the settlement as we speak. Not a moment too soon as the days have been growing almost unbearably cold. It will be nice to be out of the water before it freezes for the Moonlight season. Work on the settlement proceeds as scheduled with only minor work related injuries since the dreadful event a week ago. We should be finished by the end of Sunset and move on to the next stage of this project. There is no rest for the working caste.
