  7. Fierce battle after fierce battle. But at the end of that long voyage, the girls await. A playback of this year's summer event, which became supermassive in scale! Additionally, a report on the Zuiun Festival and other KanColle happenings in this special feature volume!

  9. New Foreign Shipgirls Encountered in This Summer's Event
  10.
  11. At the time of publication, the battles may well be continuing. As its name implies, this summer's event, "Second Western Breakthrough! European Relief Operation"*, involved a journey to far-off Europe and savage battles there. We look back at the aspects of each map in this supermassive-scale event, and the shipgirls we met there whose allure had driven us forward. We also take a look at the Zuiun Festival Finale held at the end of June; the interior design of the Admiral's Office that brings Admirals and their shipgirls together; and more, in this special feature with a KanColle Cover!

  27. A new update to carrier mechanics!? The summer event ends, and autumn arrives. The largest KanColle Naval Review ever will finally be held this autumn!
  28.
  29. Editor (E): Thank you for your hard work! You seem busy. The lead article in this issue of Comptiq will be about KanColle! We'd love any information and material!
  30. Tanaka (Ta): Thank you! Ah, a lead article. Thanks for that!
  31.
  32. E: What’s this being shown on the screen?
  33. T: These are the preparations for the second remodel that will be implemented during the next maintenance.
  34. E: I see, so this is it! Her fighters look strong too!
  35. T: Those are the F6F, which ruled the skies in the latter half of the war, after all. Preparations are continuing to implement both the mass-produced and night fighter models at the same time as this second remodel.
  36. E: A night fighter model?
  37. T: For night battle, in other words. The carrier-based night fighters F6F-3N and F6F-5N will be implemented, and will allow for participation in night battle if deployed on a carrier capable of night battle.
  38. E: Night battle-capable carriers! The new second remodel will be one, right?
  39. T: The shipgirl receiving the new second remodel will of course be able to equip these fighters. Additionally, by equipping newly implemented aircraft and crew, existing fleet carriers will also be able to equip these new night fighters and serve as night carriers, as part of the update to aircraft carriers we are currently preparing.
  40. E: Really?
  41.
  42. T: That said, night attacks will be of limited effectiveness, but it lays the groundwork for a combat system where you can't say "carriers are useless at night..." While very much a hypothetical "if" scenario, it’d be nice if “that squadron” based out of Iwagawa Airfield, which happens to also be the name of one of the servers, could also fly night fighters in naval battle...
  43. E: “That squadron”? What’s that?
  44. T: Ah, please look them up yourself! It’s a land-based squadron led by an excellent commander that continued to fight until the end. You'll definitely take a liking to them. They used planes such as the night fighter variant of the Suisei.* It's said that, since the squadron mainly sortied at night as the war situation rapidly deteriorated, they would let out cattle during the day to disguise the airfield...
  45. E: That seems quite interesting. Ah, speaking of which, didn’t Iwagawa server have cows and stuff on its banner?
  46.
  47. * The Fuyou Squadron, who specialized night battle. They flew Suisei Model 12Es, night fighter conversions without bomb payloads.
  48.
  49. T: While none are Japanese, we also plan to implement night bombers that flew from carriers in reality, as well as their conventional variants, in the next update. The USN's Avenger torpedo bomber had a night bomber variant with radar - its true value will shine when equipped on the aforementioned night carrier. * The TBM-3D, like the F6F night fighters, had a radar on its starboard wing
  50. E: "Avenger"! Scary!
  51. T: Regarding carriers, the upcoming update will also affect normal daytime air combat. The composition of the attack squads, the carriers’ “luck” stat, etc., will play an active part in battle.
  52.
  53. E: Ooh! So deploying carrier strike forces will evolve with this update too! By the way, what’s this? Umm, the Special Type destroyer... Fubuki class...
  54. T: That’s the Special Type destroyer Isonami!
  55. E: Right, right, Isonami! That’s a nice camera she’s holding. What is it!?
  56. T: This is Isonami's seasonal CG we had drawn for this year's KanColle Naval Review. Looks great, doesn't it? We also have one in the works for her sister ship, Uranami.
  57. E: Really!? A Special Type festival!
  58. T: Nah, it’s just for the Fourth KanColle Naval Review.
  59.
  60. E: Ah, I see. It'll be a huge event this time, won't it?
  61. T: Yeah. We can’t pull this off every time, but this year we'll be holding it in autumn at Tokyo Big Sight. We're planning on large, purpose-built stages in East Halls 4 and 5, and exhibits and sales booths in East Hall 6.
  62. E: Will you be displaying the 1:1 Zuiun too!?
  63. T: We'd like to, but things didn't work out. Unfortunately, there wouldn't be enough time to bring in and later remove it, so we had to drop the idea. In its place, we’ll try displaying something new in the display hall and on stage. While photography is generally prohibited at KanColle Naval Reviews, we're considering designating new areas in the exhibit hall where photography is allowed... sorry if it doesn't pan out. Isonami's on standby for that. Yeah...
  64. E: What’s that mysterious, bonus-like plan you have there?
  65. T: Something we’re doing since we can’t use the Zuiun... apologies if it doesn't work out.
  66.
  67. E: This time there’ll be 22 of the shipgirls' voice actors, and the venue is also the biggest so far. It's all-out huge, on another level from the Naval Base Zuiun Festival. Ah, that’s right, that nostalgic special Zuiun. Seems like you’re making more of those?
  68. T: Yes, they won’t be 1:1 scale, but we’re producing large amounts of that Zuiun full of nostalgia, which are small enough to take home, and bringing them to the event! If there's a lot leftover... we'll deploy them en masse at the Management Naval District! The Hiryuu CA mode [Cabin Attendant] figure commemorating the KanColle Jet Flight is also in limited supply, but we're planning to make enough to cover demand. Hopefully we'll make it in time.
  69.
  70. E: I’ll be on the scene at the Fourth KanColle Naval Review! The summer event will also be over by then, meaning autumn will begin in KanColle.
  71. T: That’s right. The long-running Summer 2017 Event: "Crossing Through the West Once Again! The European Rescue Operation" is due to end around the time of publication for this issue of Comptiq.* As of now (August 31 - Ed), the completion rate for Admirals that have reached a given map is around 80% at the lowest and around 90% at the highest. There were a total of seven maps across the main and extra operations, making for a very large-scale event. I'm happy to say the collaboration with Mitsukoshi-san around the same timeframe has been a success. The sake and snack collaboration toward the end was a very important project to me, so I'm especially glad that worked out.
  72. E: I bought a “Canned Curry” myself! Speaking of curry, the KanColle Ichiban Kuji curry recipe looked tasty, so the editorial department actually tried making it! The "KanColle Curry" was perfect for resupplying nutrition during the summer event! Summer events have always had this image of being large and terrifying, but this summer felt like a long-awaited repeat assault!** With small- and large-scale events, events come in many forms, don't they?
  73. T: Indeed. We’re planning an autumn event that will leave yet another impression.
  74.
  75. * nope.jpg
  76. ** Summer 2016 was relatively short and easy.
  77.
  78. E: Speaking of autumn, what about the pacific saury? The Naval Base Festival was a “Zuiun” Festival, but will there be a saury event in-game this year!?
  79. T: We might discuss that during the Naval Review!
  80. E: What are the new shipgirls this autumn going to be like?
  81. T: We might discuss that during the Naval Review too!
  82. E: "Might, might"! Can’t be helped - I’ll take this material on a Yuugumo-class shipgirl!*
  83. T: Ah, eh!?
  84. E: No worries! I’ll make sure to get it published! Thank you very much! I’m looking forward to this autumn’s KanColle Naval Review, and the direction KanColle takes this autumn!
