  1. Into pools of onyx we gaze
  2. Glassfish swimming weightless, their truth belying them
  3. And we put our mouths to the water, and we come up black-lipped
  4. For we are the children who know
  5.
  6. We smear the sacred substance across our eyes
  7. To see what we have tasted, verity visible
  8. The sky sees us raise our heads and we are like wild beasts
  9. raccoons that forage for the within and beyond
  10.
  11. We dye our clothes in the pools, and fasten
  12. Steel blessed by the waters edge, interlocking clinking
  13. Onto fabric that winds tight across our chests
  14. For we wish to bare our enlightened hearts
  15.
  16. And when we return to the city from our dream abode
  17. The Saducees jeer and the plebians cringe and none can comprehend
  18. Our demeanor pierces their everyday, their plain
  19. And so they discriminate, exile, banish
  20.
  21. But we will never die: for we are drunk on ourselves.
