  1. FFIII DS Step Route Hub
  2.
  3. THIS ROUTE IS FOR THE DESMUME EMULATOR ONLY
  4. This route won't work on a console and probably not on other emulators
  5.
  6. YOU ALSO NEED TO PLAY ON A JAPANESE VERSION
  7. If less you wanna get money by duping items as opposed to duping magic which is a lot faster
  8.
  9.
  10. Splits containing nearly the whole route
  11. https://www.speedrun.com/ff3/resources
  12.
  13.
  14. Cloud of Darkness stuff (note: this fight will only work if you have followed every step of the route thoroughly)
  15.
  16. The RNG will start to advance as soon as the game loads after Quicksaving your game, therefore you need to enter the cutscene immediately, and mash through the text as fast as possible (practice this). Based on how fast you are able to mash through the text, you'll get different first turns in the battle (all your characters use Turtle Shells on themselves the first turn). The chart below has mapped some of the possible fights you can end up at

  18.
  19. Once you have identified which fight you got (the number to the left of the text columns), you need to find the corresponding actions you need to perform in each battle in order to win, which you will find here. Note that due to a change earlier in the route, only the 5 first battles have been re-mapped in order to result in a win. The others will now lead to a loss, so if less you want to map out some more fights, then you better practice mashing so you land on one of the 5 first possible fights

  22.
  23. Item Duplication Glitch
  24. - Need to have an item that can be used in battle at one of the 2 top spots in your inventory (in battle)
  25. - Have the cursor hover over the item you want to use
  26. - Press Up and A at the same time
  27. - If you did it correctly, the menu should lag a little (briefly showing what's equipped in your hands)
  28. - This lets you use an item without losing any of them, and by canceling the action, you'll get the duped item back into your inventory
  29.
  30.
  31. Magic Duplication Glitch
  32.
  33. - Japanese version only
  34. - View the magic to a character with the spell you wanna dupe, switch to a character that does not already have a spell in that slot, go to exchange spells, but don’t exchange anything, just hover the cursor over the character who has the spell, cancel it, and then “remove” spells from your empty slot which corresponds to the slot that the other character has the spell

  39. How RNG works in this game
  40. - It starts out the same every time you start/continue the game from the menu (although what happens is based off your characters' stats)
  41. - As long as your inputs are the same (and stats), the same things will happen
  42. - The RNG does not advance on a frame-by-frame basis in most cases. Some exceptions to this applies:
  43. - In most towns, due to NPC movement
  44. - The cutscenes before these bosses: Djinn, Medusa, Salamander, Hein, Kraken, Cloud of Darkness
  45. - The World Map after you exit the Nepto Temple after beating Giant Rat, until you beat Medusa (because the whirlpool present on the map is constantly advancing the RNG)
  46. - When in an area with encounters, the game decides a random number of "steps" before you get an encounter, when you reach that amount of steps, you get an encounter. This number can be changed by opening your menu, healing, or curing any status ailment, although the game will still keep track of how many steps you've already taken (which is why you'll eventually reach a hard limit before you get an encounter
  47. - However, the game will reset your step count if you got to a different area, (quick)save & soft reset the game or if you talk with a 5th party member
  48.
  49. There's more to the RNG than that, but that's the gist of it. I may expand more on this if need be
  50.
  51.
  52. Other stuff:
  53. - If you mess up the Hein fight, the run is dead if someone dies and does not receive experience. If everyone lives the battle and you do not get the Hi-Potion drop, you need to buy one before Kraken
  54. - Tap Walking is repeatedly tapping the direction you want to go. If you do it properly, you can get further without any encounters. It is never required to do, but can be used i.e. at the end of the first room in the Subterranean Lake, due to the movement there being very strict (and if you get an encounter you'll lose a couple of minutes)
  55. - How to do the Chocobo's Wrath Manip (pay attention to the timing or the visual cue - the 7th time the kangaroo lands)
  56. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiD41TIXe-o <-- Practice this!
  57. - Its not good to walk diagonally against a wall or straight onto a non-straight wall (basically grinding against a wall, as you get less distance before you get your encounters)
  58.
  59. Here's the WR run, use it as a reference
