- Best friends Marie and Alexia decide to spend a quiet weekend at Alexia's parents' secluded farmhouse. But on the night of their arrival, the girls' idyllic getaway turns into an endless night of horror.
- Best friends, Marie and Alexia, are driving out to a peaceful rural weekend to visit Alexia's parents in their secluded cottage, unbeknownst to them that a deranged and utterly sadistic killer is prowling the area, hacking and slashing for his perverse pleasure. As a result, in the dead of night, a brutal massacre will follow where none shall be spared except for the helpless Alexia who will end up as the madman's hostage. Inevitably, with Marie as the sole survivor, a sinister cat-and-mouse game will soon begin, as the young woman will do anything in her power to save her friend. But is this the end of the nightmare?
- This movie has been extremely overrated.<br/><br/>After reading several reviews I decided to spend the ungodly ticket price and see this film, as I love horror, and gore. However I was very disappointed.<br/><br/>Two schoolmates leave town to spend a weekend of studying at Alex's parent's farmhouse. After heading to sleep, a sinister man enters their home, and proceeds to semi-gruesomely murder it's inhabitants. Marie is the only character with any brains whatsoever. The script conveniently gives several of the characters earplugs, in order to make it more plausible that they would not hear the screams emitting from just outside their door.<br/><br/>The madman takes Alex hostage, and Marie follows in an attempt to save her friend. This movie was touted as a gore fest, but it is not really any more gory than other movies that have come out recently.<br/><br/>And High Tension possesses a final "twist" that makes it all the more typical. It becomes exactly like every movie that has been released in the last few years, and takes away the shred of respect you might still have clinging to it by the final ten minutes.<br/><br/>In short, don't waste your money on this film. If you want gore, go to rotten.com.
- A very good horror movie in terms of horror movies. It had a decent script and great directing at times, but the plot needed some reworking. The mysterious killer needed more background and set up, they felt one-dimensional at times, even if they gain some explanation around the end. An character who is unknown for half of the film can't be very scary. <br/><br/>The way that Marie's character is set up is interesting, but for the sake of the plot it would have made more sense for her to have been a man. The second half of the movie has a lot of influences and some thought provoking points, but related more to a heterosexual couple, especially due to some phallic object shots by the director. I think they thought that the two female characters would bring another dimension to the movie, but it's clear that it was originally thought out with a male and female. My favourite part of the movie was the ending, not to be mean, just the last scene was the most interesting and clear cut part of the movie.<br/><br/>All in all, it's a decent movie-movie, and a pretty good horror movie. Don't expect everything to get explained and you should enjoy it.

You can view the film in three ways:<br/><br/>(1) U.S. English Language Dubbed Version - everything is dubbed in English.<br/><br/>(2) U.S. Unrated Version - half of the film is subtitled, and half of the film is dubbed (which is how it was released in theaters). <br/><br/>(3) Original French Language Director's Cut Version - everything is in French.<br/><br/>The film itself is the same no matter which version you choose. The only problem with choosing the Original French Language Director's Cut Version is that the subtitles are not entirely accurate. There were lines added in the U.S. English Dubbed Version, so if you choose to view the film in French, the English subtitles will sometimes display lines that are not being said by anyone. For the US theatrical release, the film was rated R by the MPAA. To achieve this, the film had to be cut heavily. More than one minute of violence is missing in different scenes.<br/><br/>The Korean DVD is censored as well. Nearly 1 minute is missing in this version. Yes--it's loosely based on the novel Intensity by Dean Koontz. A soundtrack album featuring François-Eudes Chanfrault's electronic score was supposed to be released by Thrive Records in the United States, but it was ultimately canceled. On the composer's official Web site (http://personal.computer.free.fr/web/) a link is available to stream "Faustina Mauricio Mercedes Part IV." If you dig deeply enough through the coding, however, about 30 minutes of audio from the score can be downloaded. The 2005 US DVD of High Tension had to be retouched before its release. However, the content that had to be removed from the movie was not of a violent nature, as one might suspect. Instead, the Jack Daniel's logo was removed every time it could be seen. Unfortunately, we do not know why this happened and whether it was someone from Lionsgate or someone from Jack Daniel's who stepped in. a5c7b9f00b
