Ragnorra Session 61

Start: 8 am, Monday, Eleasis 9, 1396

The party decided to deconstruct the Psion's orb, and pushed it through the portal to be broken down into essence.

They examined the vats, and found they were full of Styx maggots. These benign vermin inhabit the river Styx and are imbued with its properties. Nearby, they found containers filled with dream larva jelly. The apparatus appeared to be combining the two in some fashion, creating the substance the cult used to poison the land of Cormyr. The party made the decision to decurse and dismantle the entire structure, including the fungoid cave-like structure.

The party decursed one myconid, and it seemed to be heavily impaired from its ordeal, and had little sense about it. They decided not to intercede further.

A half-fiend gargoyle broke into the structure, and they questioned him. Through the conversation, they determined he is likely related to Pazuzu, and his name is Jirek. Jirek petitioned for their assistance dealing with nearby pit fiends who slew his fellows and took something precious to him. Although he was initially resistant, he conceded and admitted it was a blade given to him by his father. He specified the pit fiends had a portal to Dis, the second layer of Baator constructed, and rudimentary defenses. The party agreed to assist him.

The party destroyed and collected the crystal cores, and the wounds in the fungus brain began to close. It seems as if they kept the wounds open for the operation the cult was performing.

Vix spoke with the deceased myconid psion. These nine questions she answered.

4 - Q: How was this place built? A: It was shaped from fungus grown from a deceased elder brain.
5 - Q: Were treaties with demons made to ensure the security of this place? A: No
6 - Q: How did it remain safe? A: By virtue of my powers and the neothelid guards.
7 - Q: Where do the neothelids come from? A: The neothelids are being cultivated in a demiplane coterminous to the astral plane. the tadpoles are from a subjugated elder brain.
8 - Q: If you could live, what would it take for you to turn against the cult? A: It would require Vane's destruction, guaranteed victory, and safety for my people.
9 - Q: What would the cult most desperately not want us to know? A: Ragnorra's host must have a tie to divinity, for when she arrives, she intends to seize divinity from a divine body, and ascend.

It was unclear why she wished to ascend on this conquest, although perhaps it was a detailed plan long in the making, the timing is right, or perhaps greater access to suitable candidates on Toril, or any of the above.

After decursing and dismantling nearly everything in sight except the portal, the party attended to Jirek's task.

They observed from a distance and overheard the pit fiends discussing strategical plans for this new front of the blood war, and the process of retrieving supplies from Dis. They overhear the names of the Pit fiends are Klaaxu, Oribaghor, and Jzoll-Prahar. The enchanted chest they are guarding is made of adamantine and lead.

Intangible, Cassius approaches the chest and loots its contents. The alarm sounds, and the pit fiends are on the defensive.

Oribaghor spots Ronja, and demands, on the authority of Hell, for her to surrender for questioning. She does not comply. Cassius springs to action and accidentally kills Jzoll-Prahar. Combat goes smoothly for the party, but Oribaghor escapes to Dis.



Orb will be deconstructed at 8 am, Tuesday, Eleasis 10, 1396 if the deconstruction process is uninterrupted.
