Knights of Rhimellot (Day 4) 2/2

Terry made first contact with the beast, plunging his sword into one of its legs. The owl mage managed to leap off a few stalagmites and glide into the monsters face. While it was distracted, the other knights and mamono began slicing and dicing their blades into the chimaera as I went to the backside to deal with the tail.

“Gotcha!” Katli yelled as she crawled on the back of it. “How’s it going, man?” Her voice was now drowned out by more roars by both the monster and the knights.

“Just fine!” I screamed back, keeping an eye on the tail that was now seeking me down. It lunged forward at me a few times, luckily I dodged it. “Try stabbing it in the spine, that should-“ That was all I managed to get out before I tripped on a stray rock. Just like it was a rehearsed action, I fell...

Fell straight into the tail’s mouth.

The warm, fleshy interior of the tail was dark, but I did feel dozens of short spines and various liquids rub against my armor and bare skin. It began to pulsate around me as the inside became wetter. I struggled to escape the prison, but a giant roar pierced my ears before the mouth opened. I could see the dim lighting of the cave, and I was falling towards the rocky ground.

Both the tail and I landed on a Boulder with a *POOF*. Looking back up at the beast, Katli stood on its abdomen, pointing at the cut off tail.

“How was your time in there?” I heard her sarcastically yell out. I got up onto my knees, shaken up from the fall.

Aside from the cut off tail, we weren’t fairing too good. The owl mage was in the monsters mouth, the knights were defenseless, and the Alarune tried to tie the chimaera up, but to no avail. The Bicorn...

Wait, where was the Bicorn?

My question was quickly answered when I saw her climbing up one of the giant arms. The beast must’ve noticed too, since we all saw her get picked up and flung far into the cave. To say we were stunned would be an understatement, but we had a larger problem on our hand.

“Terry!” The owl mage cried out. “I think I got an idea!” All of us turned our attention to her, not forgetting to keep slicing. “Everybody back up!”

Get away? The fuck was she thinking? The others did what was asked, but I still stood on the monsters back. The mage pulled something out of a sash.

A small, shiny... ball?

I was confused as to what she held, but I saw her rip a small pin out of the ball.

Oh lord it was a hand grenade. Where did she get one?

“One... Two... Five!” She stabbed the beast in the mouth before cramming the grenade down its throat.

I didn’t see what happened next as I was already running away. All that I know was the sounds of a great explosion echoing from behind the 8 of us.

“Is that it?” Fiakhiss asked. Then the bits of flying guts and green flesh cane at us. We got soaked.

“I guess so.”

We had done it, the beast of the Cleesean Cave, defeated! Our victory was short lived, as the cave began to rumble. Stalactites fell from above us like pairs of spikes about to impale us.

“Run away!” One of the knights shouted.

The feel of half a dozen bodies clambering over each other as an avalanche of rocks was descending upon you is an experience. We (or at least I) weren’t thinking straight, just the nagging thought of “GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE” pierces my mind.

Then a rock pierced through my leg. I fell to the rocky ground, a stalagmite tore through my armor, and sliced my leg open.

“Eric!” Katli shouted out. I laid there on the rocks, unable to move. She hoisted next up into the air and began to carry me. “Holy shit man, you’re leg is fucked!” She was right, I could see the bone. The adrenaline was all that was keeping me from passing out, but even that ran out after a while.

I awoke just outside of a village, fresh air being blown into my face. I began to move, but Katli was still cradling me, the moonlight glistening off her hair. Damn, it’s been that long?

It didn’t matter, she rushed into the village and straight into the first building she could find.

“Move the fuck away!” She screamed at everyone inside, of course she bought me to a tavern. “Major injury!” She used one hand and swiped ale bottles off a table and set me down.

“Missy, just what in the hell is goin’ on ‘ere?” A portly bartender asked, only to get lifted up in the air himself.

“I said there was an injury you thick headed English pig-dog! Now someone get us a fuckin’ doctor or else you’ll end up worse than him!” She shouted to the patrons before rushing to my side, she knew I was awake now. “Oh Eric! We were so worried!” I looked up and saw Terry, Fiakhiss, the knights, and the mamono we battled with. “I rushed you out myself! Hopefully you’ll be just fine!”
