  3. After the title screen, we cut to an image of FLOWER looking off at the screen with a somber look on her face. The CG fades into the gameplay proper, revealing that Flower is staring off the edge of a cliff where a single Sakura tree sticks out like a sore thumb in a hilly, mountainous area. The first text box appears unprovoked:
  4.
  5. TEXT BOX:
  6. It's around 3 PM, you think. You don't have a clock on hand, but you've grown quite skilled at observing the time based on the position of the sun and the direction of the shadows in its wake. Your alloted recess time is almost over; It's usually longer, but tomorrow is due to be a lon and exhausting day. Soon simple pleasures like being able to frolick about in this shrine will be a thing of the past.
  7. "How unfair" you'd think, if you didn't already feel guilty for not outgrowing these feelings years ago.
  8. Your 21st birthday is arriving soon, you remind yourself. It's getting hard to keep track, as the progression of time grows unceremonious.
  9. Anyway, tomorrow is sure to sneak up if you lose yourself to your mind any longer. Might as well enjoy yourself now.
  10. -----
  11.
  12. You gain control of Flower at this point. The only observable options are the Sakura tree and the edge of the cliff.
  13.
  14. ------
  15. TREE:
  16. The cherry blossom trees in this area only bloom around the immediate area of Yoitona's shrine. A testament to his miracles, no doubt.
  17.
  18. ------
  19. CLIFF:
  20. Be careful. Terrible things would happen if you were to step any further. This outfit is way too restrictive for scaling mountains. That's what you were intending, right?
  21.
  22. ------
  23. You can also check Flower's inventory. Equipped to her body is the Momogami royal kimono and a curse suppressor attached to her head, as well as a key item called TRIBUTES.
  24.
  25. ----
  26. ROYAL KIMONO:
  27. A traditional garb fashioned specifically for the Princess of Flowers. Pretty stuffy and restrictive, but it's comfortable enough. Feels like one is constantly in a loving embrace.
  28. ---
  29. CURSE SUPPRESSOR:
  30. (The Curse Suppressor looks like an Axon-style brown hearing aid)
  31. Partially restrains the curse that inflicts you. You need this to hear with clarity.
  32. ----
  33. TRIBUTES:
  34. A cup of special blessed flower petals and fragrances, meant to be used as an offering to the gods. Maybe this will put Yoitona on your good side.
  35. ************************
  36.
  37. The next screen is a long stretch across the hillside with the intense walking action occasionally interspersed with the odd observation point here and there.
  38.
  39. ----
  40. INSECT:
  41. (Sprite is a blade of grass with a slight red dot on it)
  42. A bug's life is too short and meaningless to get anything accomplished on its own, but it must find great value in helping the world being just a little more buggier. What kind of insect is it? How should you know. You're a Princess of Flowers, not a Mushihimesama.
  43. ----
  44. MOUNTAIN MAN:
  45. https://i.imgur.com/5LHNHxn.png
  46. (A hooded man standing over a cliff looks off into the distance, smoking a pipe.)
  47. "Up here to see Yoitona again, huh? It seems the only visitors around anymore are you and the occasional Samurai patrol.
  48. And to think, I've still never gotten your name. No need to rush. I'm sure I'll find out eventually."
  49. "This view is always breathtaking"
  50. ---------
  51. RABBIT:
  52. Nuknuknuk
  53. ---------
  54.
  55. *************************
  56. This busy screen contains the entrance to the Yoitona Shrine
  57.
  58. -------
  59. HOKORA:
  60. You go to pay your time and attention at the Hokora near Yoitona's shrine. You don't usually have anything to offer as tribute, but this time will be different. The gods are the very few you can speak with, so its best to stay on their good sides. You feel you've must have made them angry enough in the past. Yoitona is the only one you really feel comfortable around. You've done enough favors for him in the past for divine misfortune to be more than a little rude at this point.
  61. ---------
  62. PATCH OF FLOWERS:
  63. These look like the same flowers you tended to last week. They've grown mightier and healthier since. Flowers grow up so fast, don't they? Best thing of all is that they have no real responsibilities besides looking pretty. You'd be envious, but really, is your life any different?
  64. You named these top 3 flowers in particular, Windcutter, Rouge, and Birmingham. Those were just the first three names to come to mind, so they must be important.
  65. -------
  66. DISCARDED EFFIGY:
  67. This abandoned statue looks pretty content just lying on the ground here. Lots of space to do that. Do you want to lie down as well?
  68. (Yes/No)
  69. You decide to just leave care to the Kobolds and spread your body on the grassy knolls.
  70. It's pretty dewey, your elaborate dress is sure to get wet and ruined. You couldn't care less of course. The Grandmaster has more than enough funds for a new one. Your caretakers used to be irritable with you but now they've grown apathetic. All you care about now are the nostalgic rolling clouds miles above your head. They're rolling a bit too fast now.
  71. Dang, look at that. The sun is now in your eyes. How horrible. This is painful. Let's stop looking at the sky now.
  72. ---------
  73.
  74. *************************
  75. Once Flower enters the shrine, the perspective goes from primarily side scrolling to a proper top-down view. Most of the area is dark and drab, littered with menacing statues of who we can assume at this point is Yoitona. Most importantly, the entrance is a single path over an artificial body of water. The halls of the shrine are long and winding, there's signs of flooding to make the place a lot more damp than neee be, and various rooms are too decrepit to move around in much. To make matters worse, there are occasional sounds that indicates Flower isn't here alone. During these moments, Flower's emotions begin to get the better of her.
  76.
  77. "Maybe you should just go home."
  78. "This is a suitable punishment, isn't it?"
  79. "The gods don't want you here. Who would?"
  80. "Go away."
  81. "There's no saving you"
  82. "You were born from the curse, and you'll die to the curse."
  83. various other discouraging phrases as she proceeds through the shrine.
  84.
  85. Eventually, she'll reach a single, imposing statue kept alight by windows to the outside world. The intrusive thoughts finally cease. She's now free to examine the statue and place the offering to Yoitona.
  86. ----
  87. Will you place the Tribute to Yoitona?
  88. (Yes/No)
  89. You give Yoitona your offering. Maybe now the gods will be on your side. Maybe your curse will finally be lifted.
  90. ----
  91.
  92. Once Flower turns back and walks a couple steps, the statue of Yoitona is shattered in a split second as a large figure drops in from the ceiling, in a slightly jumpscary moment. This figure begins to lift itself up, looking like a large and imposing demon. This demon is TURTLE, for now unnamed.

  94. -----
  95.
  96. ???:
  97. Your god won't save you here.
  98.
  99. (The surprise of this situation makes Flower trip over in fear, as the shadow of the demon looms over her)
  100.
  101. ???:
  102. Are you scared speechless? I wish it didn't have to come down to this...but I know you from scent alone. The Momogami family. You belong to them, don't you?
  103. Do you know how much pain your kind has caused? How much blood you've shed?
  104. Just look at me. Right to this very second, I'm afflicted by a curse of your own doing.
  105.
  106. (The word "curse" triggers something within Flower. In tears, she tries to yell out something, but to no avail; all that comes out are coarse, guttural grunts.)
  107.
  108. ???:
  109. ....
  110. I always took humans as the type to run their mouths as soon as it'd save their skin. I appreciate the restraint. But that won't be enough to save you here.
  111. If I can't attack the Momogami scoundrels from head-on, picking them off one by one should be a lot more manageable. I'll pick you from this cursed land first.
  112. ---
  113.
  114. Now you're in trouble. The demon begins to move slowly with the intention of chasing you down. Naturally, the main course of action here is to escape as fast as your terrible kimono will take you. As you backtrack through the shrine, Turtle will chase you down in various ways, such as walking towards you slowly, going thru brief bursts of unimaginable speed, and straight up teleporting through the darkness. Not a very fun time all around. As you can tell, making contact with turtle at any point results in the screen turning blood red followed by an instant game over. You wanna avoid that. Thankfully, it shouldn't take long for you to reach the water-logged entrance. Even though Turtle has easily caught up with you to this point, this room makes him show rare signs of weakness. He nervously tries to chase you over the narrow path, trying desperately not to fall in, and Flower can't help but feel this behavior looks suspicious. As a matter of fact, the turtle seemed to have actively avoided all sources of water within the shrine, to varying degrees of confidence.
  115. Once she runs out of the shrine, she noticed the cup she used to hold her tributes fell into her kimono once parts of the statue went flying everywhere. Noticing a spring nearby, used to supply the shrine with its water source, she fills the cup with water just in case.
  116. As it turns out, that case came sooner than expected as Turtle sneaks up and shouts
  117. "GOTCHA!"
  118. https://i.imgur.com/Lup1Qlj.png
  119. Flower tries to run, but Turtle grabs her by the arm, which results in her accidentally tossing the cup into the air.
  120. Turtle readies his free claw, and begins to ask
  121. "Are you ready to go to hell first? Worry not, because I'll make sure to send your entire family of habitat-destroying wretches with you in due time. It's nothing I take pleasure in, so I'd prefer to make things quick. Are you ready to pass-"
  122. https://i.imgur.com/r5uYsid.png
  123. During this monologue, the cup slowly falls back into frame until it finally lands-right on Turtle's head. It takes a while to process, but once it does, Turtle lets out a bloodcurdling scream and begins writhing in pain, reacting as if the water is burning his flesh clean off.
  124.
  125. Seemingly defeated, Flower almost can't believe that such a foe was bested by something near ubiquitous as water, especially confounding considering he looks like a turtle in broad daylight. From this point, you're given the option to either run away or continue experimenting.
  126. If you continue to partake in the demon's pain, Flower will pour another cup on him, causing him to scream ever louder and beg for mercy. Flower will continue doing this for as long as you choose not to run back home, cycling through about 5 different images before repeating.
  127.
  128.
  129. With the Turtle demon done with, Flower rushes back home, barely escaping with her life. She can't help but wonder what was the Turtle's deal was, and why he wanted her dead so badly.
  130.
  131. ***********************************************
  132.
  133. The screen turns black as a single text box appears.
  134. "Well, you sure look like you had fun. Must be real fun to be liberal with the time granted you, considering you were 30 minutes late and all."
  135. The scene shifts to an interior location, layered with tatami mats and sliding doors.
