- While exploring the desolate landscape, you come across an overturned cart in the middle of what appears to have once been a dirt road. Nature has encroached on this path in the intervening years, but the deeply etched ruts of wagon wheels are still faintly evident in the long abandoned trail. The cart itself has also seen better days: besides just being tipped over, it has not been treated kindly by time or the weather.
- Despite its rotting wood and rusted metal, you decide to take a look through the old wreck, just in case anything of use is left. It seems whoever owned this cart was a tanner by trade, judging by all of the animal hides stacked up in the back. At first, you're not sure if there's anything salvageable here, but miraculously, you do actually find [a set of leather armor?], which seems to have survived in passable condition. You fold up your find and stuff it in your pack before continuing with your search. Further in the back, you find a small, battered diary next to a stuffed rabbit. The toy hasn't aged well in the slightest—stuffing spills out of several tears in its fabric, and one of its button eyes has been ripped out.
- Hoping that the diary has fared at least somewhat better, you open it up, but are disappointed to see that most of the pages have rotted away. However, you are able to find a single partially-intact passage near the end, reading as follows:
- [say: —dy says we're only going to be leaving for a little while, but I think he's lying. I can hear him and mommy crying at night. I think they miss Grammy and Uncle too. I don't know why we had to leave, I want to stay with Sally and Becca and Mrs. Grace. It's no fun out here, but when Uncle said we should stay, Daddy got really mad at him. Mommy says that everything's gonna be fine and that this is just a little adventure, but what kinda adventure makes everyone frown?
- I heard a noise. Daddy told me to stay inside the wagon while he went out and checked. I'm scared, but Sir Stuffington is here with me, so it's going to be o]
- There's nothing more. You close the book and put it back inside of the wagon, before turning to leave.
