Akane

Adelheid’s sabre was covered in a black tar-like substance. She shook it off and stabbed some more Magical Girls. As she cut down more and more, she saw one of the shadow Magical Girls wielding a sword. She was about to swing it, yet she was way too far a distance for it to connect.

...Or perhaps she wasn’t.

Despite the samurai Magical Girl swinging into empty space far in the distance, Adelheid could feel that it had some purpose. Something was coming, but she didn’t know what.

“Blitzkrieg!”

With a lag time of 0 seconds, Adelheid’s face took the slash of the sword that wasn’t supposed to hit. She instantly transferred the energy she received from the slash to her legs, running towards the samurai Magical Girl, while slashing other Magical Girls beside her.

However, instead of feeling relieved that there were less enemies, she was more anxious. This wasn’t the first time the homunculi had retreated. Before the grenades, or before the samurai Magical Girl swung her sword… meaning whenever a homunculus was about to launch a large scale attack, its allies retreated first…

“We need to move, now!” shouted Adelheid.

And so, Akane honed her Magic and swordsmanship as she worked as a Magical Girl. Akane’s Magic was the ability to “produce slashes which could cut up anything she could see.” While it sounded like a pretty frightening Magic, if she came across an opponent who had taken aim at her from a distance, this Magic could ignore any advantage in attack range and directly attack her opponent’s weapon, rendering them powerless. One could say that was quite a nonviolent use of it.

When she used her Magic, she had to swing her sword down in a slashing stroke. The more quickly she swung, the more powerful and effective the Magic would be.

she continued honing her Magical Girl skills even as she divided her strength evenly between her school, club, family and Magical Girl activities. While what she did was no different from self-practice for her club activities, her physical dexterity, mental acuity, endurance, sensory perception and the weight of a shinai or mokuto versus a real sword were completely different between them. She had to familiarize herself with and master each of them.

She ran up the wall of a building and reached the roof. The building was four kilometers from the school and three kilometers from the mountain entrance. WIth a Magical Girl’s vision, she could make out human beings even at this range.

There was a huge crowd down there. The media had also shown up in force.

She knew how her family would move. They would probably try to avoid drawing attention before the activity began, and they were the sort who felt that going from last to the first in one fell swoop was best. With the superior physical abilities of Magical Girls, it was certainly possible for them to do such a thing.

The position of the cameras was important too. Where was the best place for them to be recorded when they surpassed the masses and reached the pole position?

—I see them!

They were some distance away from the crowds, in the shade of a pine tree. While the leaves blocked her line of sight, she could see several fluttering skirts and hems, identical to the ones she had seen several days ago. They had blended with a group of other fancily-dressed people. Akane found her big sister among the cosplay runners who took part every year.

To her right was her mother, and then her other big sister, and then her little sister. She had found them. Victory would be decided in a single moment.


Akane eased her katana from its sheath with her right hand. She pulled out a wakizashi with her left hand, grasping its hilt with her fingers. This two-sword style was one that she had never tried in the dojo before. If one of her club members attempted it, she would have stopped them.

However, Magical Girls were a different matter.

Her bangs hung down, and she parted them with a gentle breath. She drew her wakizashi and cut down the pine leaves. Before they realised the pine leaves were rustling, she swing the katana in her right hand.

Magical Girls’ Magic was not for harming other people. Naturally, it did not exist to harm one’s family members. Akane was aiming at the talismans they were carrying. As long as those were gone, then even coming in first was meaningless. Right, left, right—she aimed exclusively at the talismans and swung. After that, she would offer a donation at the temple and pray that the gods would not punish her.

Her bangs moved from the breath, and then hung down again. Three kilometers away, the talismans which the four of them were carrying were reduced to confetti, raining down on the ground which was still covered with a bit of residual snowfall. While she could not hear them, she could see the four of them kicking up a fuss and making a scene.

Four skeletons moved towards her in slow motion. However, before they reached her. they were sliced in half, from head to toe, and they collapsed into little pieces.

“Eh…?”

Looking down at her feet, she saw that the skeleton that was grabbing her was cleanly sliced into 3 horizontal slices. The cut was vivid, and it gouged deeply into the ground. It was a powerful strike, and Pechika quickly shook off the hand of the skeleton from her foot.

What happened? What’s going on? I didn’t get new abilities did I? That wasn’t me, was it?

That certainly wasn’t Pechika. She looked around, and her Magical Girl vision saw a figure behind the cloud of dust. The body size was a little smaller than an adult male… It was a female. She had a Katana lowered on her right hand. Was she trying to help out? Pechika could only see abandoned buildings and weeds around her. There was no one else around, and they were separated by around 2 kilometers, so maybe she was trying to help.

If she did try to help, then she must have good intentions. Surely, she must. Suddenly, Pechika’s ran through the area with blinding speed. She almost couldn’t comprehend it. In the blink of an eye, she ran 2 kilometers, bowing her head down.

“T-Thank you! Thank you very much!!!”

Several giant harpoons flew and pierced the skies. Each one of them was intercepted.

Vertically.

Horizontally.

Diagonally.

All of them were sliced in half. Broken and cut before they could reach their target. A loud and heavy sound accompanying them as they crashed to the ground.

The Katana Magical Girl hasn’t moved from her spot at all, yet all the harpoons were sliced, rolling down on the ground.

Gigantic sunflower seeds flew across the air, those were cut as well.

Boulders were thrown too, all of them cut and broken.

They were probably long-range slashes. Genopsycho’s Invincible Suit didn’t work, because she was sliced through the visor.

The suit was never damaged. Only Genopsycho, who was inside the suit, had red blood sprayed out.

In other words, she can kill anything that she sees. Genopsycho’s face may be covered with her visor, but she could still see her face.

That was what Nokko-Chan was thinking. That’s also why Nokko-Chan couldn’t do anything.

In other words, if she came near her, then she’d be killed.
(Akane cutting through several attacks, apparently diagonally is doable now? Guess the power upgraded. Her power is enough to scatter dozens of Magical Girls into running and hiding, unable to do anything to her)

No one moved. A loud rubbing noise in the Town Square was heard. It was a loud sound of something being dragged. Like two pieces of concrete rubbing each other. Gradually, it became larger.

Nokko-Chan looked above. The building that she was hiding in, it was going to collapse. Not the whole building itself, but only the upper half.

Its height was around 20 meters, and its length was about the same. It was sliced diagonally in half.

It was falling this way. She’ll be crushed. Even as a Magical Girl, this wasn’t safe.

Nokko-Chan kicked away the Magical Girl hiding next to her. Afterwards, she jumped towards the other side. In this way, she escaped from the impact of the falling building. The other girl she kicked should also have been kicked away from danger, she hoped.

The upper half of the building made a thunderous sound as it crashed to the ground. A shattering noise that could hurt your eardrums.

She breathed out those last bits of those words. She lifted the sword up. They were standing around 10 meters apart.

She swung her sword down. A large boulder that appeared 3 meters in front of her was sliced in half.

“Hnngh…?”

If she had swung down the sword while Nokko-Chan was in her line of sight, then Nokko-Chan would’ve been sliced in half.

However, before the Katana was swung down, her line of sight was blocked. A giant boulder appeared in the space between Nokko-Chan and the enemy.

Consequently, instead of Nokko-Chan, the boulder was sliced instead.

The Katana Magical Girl raised her voice. She pulled her left arm in, bringing it together with her right one.

Her left arm’s index finger, middle finger, and thumb held and supported the Katana in her right hand. Together with her right hand, she swung her Katana with a speed that no one could perceive.

The boulder was cut. Its broken and crushed pebbles came darting out. Everything was crushed into dust. The boulder that was sliced caused everything to be blinded with the white mist of the sandy ground.

The wind blew, and the dust danced in the air, the pieces of the boulder sitting on the battlefield.
