  1. Maertock Reave exclaims, "Vesper!"
  2. Vesper asks, "Huh?"
  3. Maertock Reave exclaims, "I need more medical practice. And Than has been holy magi assaulted!"
  4. Maertock Reave says, "He needs treatment/."
  5. Vesper says, "..."
  6. Vesper asks, "Isn't he an occultist?"
  7. Maertock Reave says, "Payment."
  8. Maertock Reave says, "Yes."
  9. Vesper says, "How is he even alive..."
  10. Maertock Reave says, "It is unpleasant for him."
  11. Maertock Reave says, "In extremity."
  12. Maertock Reave says, "Come come."
  13. Maertock Reave says, "Than lie on the table."
  14. Maertock Reave says, "Let's practice medicine."
  15. Vesper asks, "What did they do to you?"
  16. Than says, "So."
  17. "Hello. It's me, everyone's friend, Than."
  18.
  19. He'd mutter, as he leapt up onto the table. Clearly in a fair amount of pain. "And the issue that seems to be haunting me this day, is...! Some dickhead noble with holy magic slapped me with his holy magic. Like literally slapped me with it."
  20.
  21. As he spoke, he'd slowly begin to remove his shirt to reveal the palmprint on his chest, which seems to radiate with holy magic.
  22.
  23. "Which y'know, would be a problem for most people, but it's even worse for me given the nature of the magic I practice."
  24.
  25. A swift nod of his head follows.
  26.
  27. "Any assistance of getting this fucking MAGIC out of my body, would be greatly appreciated. I swear, this is the last time I try to fight someone without armor..." He grumbles out the last sentence, as he waits for Vesper to do his thing.
  28.
  29. Well, Vesper and Maertock?
  30.
  31. Something like that.
  32.
  33.
  34. (Than)
  35. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  36.
  37. Vesper says, "It sounds like a job for an occultist to handle, see to it that you override the holy magic with more occulut, Maetrock. I'll oversee it, however."
  38. Maertock Reave says, "This is what medical school trained me for."
  39. Maertock Reave says, "No fear."
  40. Than says, "Hahaha. I'm in danger."
  41. Vesper says, "Simply make a small inciscion into the skin until you find a single thread, and then start to override it."
  42. Maertock Reave says, "Right, small incision."
  43. Maertock Reave says, "Hahahahah."
  44. Well, there was more than one thing that he wanted to do tonight, and this turns out to be this.
  45.
  46. The fact that the tribes wanted Carnivore was more than enough reason for him to act on his own prior engagements, and upon giving a simple diagnosis of the Occultist and how to cure it, the very being moved over towards the Dryad with a more than the horrid look of dread.
  47.
  48. His voice was nevertheless made with malice, and the anger that was within them was enough for him to justify how they felt about the person in question.
  49.
  50. "So, I heard that you betrayed the tribes and even went forth to claim that D'noxa has a death cult. It doesn't make it any easier that you betrayed them either, does it?"
  51.
  52. His head cracked over to the side, letting the blood flow and his blue eye to stay focused upon them entirely. It was clear that his intentions were the furthest from what one would call humane.
  53.
  54. However, he didn't seem to care about what was humane or fair in regard to punishment and getting those that were more than declared traitors to his group of people and his alliances.
  55.
  56. It didn't help that most people wanted her dead and gone, either.
  57.
  58. However, he didn't seem to start with pulling his staff, but a simple talk would do before he even managed to bring about the staff to really bring in the pain as well.
  59.
  60. "Why did you do it?"
  61.
  62. "Why would you lie on your own people, and betray them, despite the fact that you proclaim to want to protect them and do kind by them? What happened to cause that change with you."
  63.
  64. The eyes simply festered upon them, wanting that information first before he figured out what he would do next with the Dryad. However, there was one thing that he didn't enjoy at all -- lies.
  65.
  66. "Make sure you tell the truth as well, any lies would only make this more damning on you than me, and as fun, as it would be -- Iwould much rather you tell the truth and make this easy."
  67.
  68. "I don't have patience, and I am already in a horrible mood, so let's be reasonable, yes?"
  69.
  70. Would the Dryad hear it? The world that was already cutting apart at the seams and making it all the more horrifying to live in?
  71.
  72. He could.
  73. (Vesper)
  74. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  75.
  76. Maertock would listen carefully to Than's woes as the journeyman medical student and Captain of the Deep Company frowned upon hearing the source of his woes. It did not amuse the captain of the Deep Company to hear that his protégé had been wounded in such a manner.
  77.
  78. But this was a good time to practice medicine as any for a pirate captain. Doubly so as with this particular surgery, he'd need to actually trace the mana circuitry that had been illuminated by trick in his necromancy lesson. This would be an effort of dual efforts, but....why not make it fully both?
  79.
  80. A small incision wouldn't get....all the holy, right?
  81.
  82. Right.
  83.
  84. "Than, this is going to hurt."
  85.
  86. As Than laid down upon the table, Maertock would raise his clawed hand as it became wreathed in dense, razor sharp shadows concentrated upon the points of his jagged nails. Approaching than, he'd correlate the boy's physiology with the demonstration he'd received on the boy from yesterday.
  87.
  88. Yes, yes, he knew his whole layout. His shadows....could infiltrate.
  89.
  90. This was going to be a fruitful lesson.
  91.
  92. With a brutal thrust of his claw into Than's gut avoiding internal organs while piercing directly into the center of network of circuits, Maertock would force his shadow into the depths of Than with his deep sorcery of life draining. Invading his very body not unlike a puppet master with strings to sap his life force to save it.
  93.
  94. And to study humanoid networks with the eyes that scoured within upon every inch of shadow that now brutally entered Than, stripping and corrupting every inch of Holy mana his tendrils were capable of. Like a marionette's strings being forcefully untangled, but with veins and agonizingly cold, dark mana.
  95.
  96. When Maertock had studied with brutality Than's mana pathways and removed as much holy magic as he could, the captain would release what he had drained with a contented vomit of his alcoholic guts.
  97.
  98. Fresh and new.
  99.
  100. His shadowy tendrils receded with a splatter of blood from Than.
  101. (Maertock Reave)
  102. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  103.
  104. The moment the sirenian had stated 'Than, this is going to hurt.', the youth knew he was in for a rough time.
  105.
  106. A very rough time it would seem.
  107.
  108. Especially when those olive hues of Than rest on the razer sharp shadowy claws that were about to plunge into his chest, stomach? Honestly it could have been either of them, and he was about to be in absolute agony.
  109.
  110. Which was true!
  111.
  112. The moment the hand plunged into him, a sharp pain unlike anything else the youth had ever experienced in his life shot throughout his entire body. An attempt to hold back screams of pain would be made, but tragically it would fail.
  113.
  114. So scream he would.
  115.
  116. Then the shadows began to creep throughout his circuits. The goal of those were to no doubt purge the remaining holy magic, but he'd be damned if it didn't feel awful. His circuits felt like they were not only freezing, but also burning at the same time.
  117.
  118. It was agony.
  119.
  120. Yet, eventually it would conclude, and with it the youth can simply stare into the sky wondering where it all went wrong.
  121.
  122. "I hate this."
  123. (Than)
  124. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  125.
  126. Maertock would click his teeth together with merry cheer as he glanced over the brutalized Than in contentment; his dark mind already beginning to integrate the intelligence he'd gathered with his tendrils for his later studies. The pattern of circuitry had become foreign no longer, he was learning!
  127.
  128. Learning necromancy.
  129.
  130. Glancing over the mutilated than on the table, a sewing needle and thread of inky shadows were made manifest in Maertock's hands, the brutal but efficient stitching job proceeded to close up the wound he'd opened to sap out the holy magic while leaving a massive, gouging scar on his chest.
  131.
  132. The sorcery of the deep was that of retribution, not healing. Everything had a cost.
  133.
  134. With a thrust, weave, snip, snap, black threads would seal up Than's torso in a jagged, lightning bolt scar while he was splattered in blood, pain from his disciple ignored as Maertock practiced his technique with a sense of genuine satisfaction.
  135.
  136. "Excellent, all stitched up."
  137.
  138. With a bark of laughter, he'd pour high proof grain alcohol all over Than's stitched up wound to cleanse it of infection, sprinkling salt on after to ensure it was dried and fully blessed by the Deep. Pain was just weakness leaving the body, ergo he would grow stronger from this.
  139.
  140. "Good as new."
  141. (Maertock Reave)
  142. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  143.
  144. Maertock Reave says, "Oh if you kill her I need a body for science."
  145. Shining Sparkle exclaims, "She's... not even human!"
  146. Maertock Reave says, "Yes but bodies are bodies."
  147. Maertock Reave says, "Science."
  148. Maertock Reave exclaims, "Science is not racist!"
  149. Maertock Reave says, "Pirate science."
  150. Maertock Reave says, "Bam."
  151. Shining Sparkle says, "I think Moxtli would want the body back."
  152. Shining Sparkle says, "In this case."
  153. Maertock Reave says, "Hmm."
  154. Maertock Reave says, "What if we cut her...in half."
  155. Shining Sparkle says, "..."
  156. Shining Sparkle says, "Talk it out with the leaders if it comes to that! I'm just the help."
  157.
  158. He did not feel 'Good as new.' If anything he felt worse than when he was actually injured. Which was either a sign of Maertock being a great doctor, or a horrible one.
  159.
  160. Probably the latter of the two options.
  161.
  162. But, at least he had a rather neat looking lightning bolt shaped scar on his chest, and the holy magic was out of his system.
  163.
  164. "Fuck."
  165.
  166. He slowly rolls off of the table, before slowly slipping a shirt over his chest.
  167.
  168. "Right. Never let Maertock operate on me again. Got it."
  169.
  170. With that, his tired, and pained eyes would slowly drift over towards the situation with Vesper, and the plant woman.
  171. (Than)
