  1. First portion: Alarm
  2.
  3. The party's electoral image is not working. Polling between 1-3% nationally for years.
  4. Poor performance at by-elections. If a radical new approach not taken, will stay a niche minority
  5. party and likely eventually disintegrate.
  6.
  7. ----
  8.
  9. Second portion: No coalitions.
  10.
  11. As long as Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael have collectively a majority of seats, we recognise that as
  12. the returned centre-right government, whether they undertake that responsibility or not.
  13.
  14. They are closer ideologically and policy-wise to each other than we are to either of them.
  15. What sense does coalition make?
  16.
  17. Confuses the electorate, destroys long-term alternative consolidation, and makes politics too concessionary and cynical.
  18.
  19. Not going into coalition with FGFF, a campaign asset in and of itself. Our first message.
  20.
  21. ----
  22.
  23.
  24. Third portion: Who are we?
  25.
  26. Introduction of 'compromised left' and 'trashy left' categorisation.
  27. A bridge between or an 'axis of convergence'.
  28.
  29. The Social Democrats purpose is not to obtain petty concessions, but to build an alternative government
  30. for the electorate to choice should the numbers ever be returned.
  31.
  32. The party will not be in government after the election, therefore campaign messaging should not focus on 'government', but 'alternative'.
  33.
  34. Broad, scaleable sentiment and assembled image.
  35.
  36. Broadly palatable appeal as well as a commitment to be an alternative, all-together transcendent of Irish political convention.
  37.
  38.
  39. ---
  40.
  41. Fourth Portion: How?
  42.
  43. Offensive, edgy campaigning. At our size, we will not get attention by any other means.
  44.
  45. Our position in the 'compromised left' category means our appeal is often
  46. compromised from hard left snark. If the party is not more combative,
  47. it will suffocate.
  48.
  49. Irish politics is too settled, too rigid, too petty. We are here to change that.
  50.
  51. ---
  52.
  53. Students for Social Democracy - We will form this group to assist this party.
