  37. Wow, I am really surprised at the negativity of the comments here. This was a win-win situation for all involved: the mother, the dad, the rest of the family, the nannies, and especially the children. Nannying is tens of thousands of years old. Much better than latch-key children of isolated nuclear families coming home to an empty house, given free reign access to the internet child molesters unsupervised, or day care where 50 babies and toddlers are corralled by two or three child care workers. The negative commenters probably don't have children.

  64. Most parents today use some form of assistance with childcare, whether it's a daycare center, family member or a part-time nanny. (Not sure why the idea of a little help for a working mother with a disabled spouse offends people.)

  96. Lighten up. She did not ask for a major health issue to affect her family. Only the first nanny is described as a convenience.

  122. @r3ader1 A nanny is not a mother. She is suggesting we treat them like one. You want a holiday for nannies? Call the DFL and unions. I'm sure they will have no problem in establishing one and making it a paid holiday for government workers.

  149. Probably one of the most ridiculous premises I've ever heard. Is the nanny the child's mother? No. If you feel guilty for abdicating your mothering skills to a surrogate you should not have become a mother or consider adopting out the children to someone who truly loves them enough to actually care for them.
