- Boy, do I not like Mystic Force
- So, Mystic Fate is the two part finale of Power Rangers Mystic Force. Much like The Return, it also covers two episodes of Magiranger, but since this is a two parter, and the Magiranger finale was a two parter, this should be fine, right?
- Mystic Fate tries to cover three episodes. Sort of.
- So, what better way to start the finale than with a completely superfluous training sequence! And by completely superfluous I mean there is around five seconds of anything actually relevant here. Leanbow, the Red Ranger's father, uses a special attack on Nick, the Red Ranger. That's... that's the only thing important here. There's no character in it, its simply a fight for a fight's sake. There is a comparable scene to this in the Sentai, but not until later, because of course.
- Cut to villains lair. The Master speaks up in his generic growly voice, and says that Itassis is to go wreck Earth's shit. As she heads out to do that, Necrolai flies up and asks if she can spare Leelee, her daughter. Itassis says she'll spare her, but Sculpin gives the vampire the back of his hand, claiming that if she lives with humans, she deserves to die... I mean, PERISH like a human.
- The scene cuts out the opening of the Sentai version, where Sphinx talks to Dagon and Sleipnir about how the surface world might have some value in it. She really wants to study the concepts of emotional bonds and courage, but the two other Gods declare that the surface world is pointless, and has no value. N Ma calls up from his slab, and tells Sphinx to dole out her divine punishment, which she regretfully agrees to.
- The Mystic Force version of the scene... isn't innately terrible, at least. It is bothering to set up Necrolai's face turn, and it might actually do it better than Vancuria's. Unfortunately, this comes at the expense of making Itassis still look like an asshole even when she's supposed to have reached the point where she doesn't want to destroy the world.
- CUT TO COMIC RELIEF SCENE. PHINEAS DOES SOMETHING STUPID AND ITS NOT FUNNY. THAT IS ALL.
- Itassis shows up, and then the Rangers show up, and they fight. Its a bad fight scene. It consists almost entirely of the Rangers being flung up by explosions. And then close up, slow motion versions of them being thrown up by explosions. Then Red goes into his awful looking battlizer, and I feel absolutely nothing. The scene ends with Blue performing one of her two contributions to the story, and calling Itassis a coward for not being able to make her own decisions. Itassis seems to agree, and vanishes.
- So, Magiranger has a fight scene with Sphinx that gets this whole thing solved in far less time. Its a giant fight that they could have used, and it lasts, at the most, thirty seconds before Sphinx defeats them. It then goes into a way more character driven speech from Magiblue about how they will fight N Ma, even if they are weak, because they want to protect the ones they love. This plays into the current story where MagiShine, who MagiBlue has a crush on, is planning on leaving. Sphinx has a more philosophical realization, realizing that the Hell Gods don't have feelings, and that feelings might be where miracles come from.
- And instantly cut to Sculpin and Black Lance showing up in some weird black void (Its Sphinx's personal Mirror World, established in the last episode of Magiranger but not used at all in Mystic Force, so its just a random void) to confront Itassis. She says they can't defeat the Rangers because COURAGE, and that they can make their own choices. Then they kill her in an incredibly over the top death scene that happens way too fast. It basically exists to further Itassis' and Necrolai's face turns.
- The Magiranger version functions pretty exactly the same, except its actually paced and written well. The main difference is that Sphinx has more come to realize how pointless everything they've done is, especially when she just wants knowledge. They're planning on destroying a source of things she doesn't understand and wants to learn about, and is feeling remorse. The free will thing works, but its so much more basic and face-y than Sphinx's motives.
- The other difference is that they changed how she dies. Judging by how stab-happy Dagon has been throughout this arc, you could safely assume they changed it due to them usually tending to change impalement. Dagon doesn't stab her. He slashes at her, in a way that's around as violent. I don't know what they were thinking, did they think Itassis spinning around in the air and grunting a lot added more drama to the scene? It didn't. It was stupid.
- SMASH CUT directly to The Master bursting out of his slab, and saying he's going to go take care of "The Light". That's the fancy pants word for chosen one this series. Its Nick, by the by. I have a lot to say about how absolutely unneeded this chosen one bullshit is, but we'll save that for the absolute worst part of the episode.
- This scene actually happens much earlier in the Sentai, and I actually don't mind what they do with it here. The context in the original is mostly that N Ma is hungry, and wants to go wreck shit in Magitopia (AKA Magic Heaven). The Mystic Force version works for what they're planning, but what they're planning is stupid.
- Cut to Nick training to use his dad's special move from before. The Master's shadow casts over him, and it cuts to commercial. It then cuts straight to an oat stand on fire. The Rangers show up to help, alongside Leanbow and Udonna, but sans Nick, but Kelson Henderson as an elf tells them to get out of the magic forest because they're stinky. He starts freaking out when Nick shows up, calling him the destroyer. The rest of the Spirit Halloween forest creatures start running away, much to the confusion of the rest of the Rangers and Leanbow.
- Nick's eyes start to glow purple, and he tells them that he killed them. He killed them all. They're dead, every single one of them. And not just the men, but the women, and the children too! They're like animals, and he slaughtered them like animals! HE HATES THEM!
- After bragging about how powerful he is and shooting an energy bolt at his dad, Nick transforms into Koragg. In response, Leanbow transforms into Red Koragg I mean the Wolf Warrior. They then proceed to fight, teleporting into the main base and absolutely destroying it. The fight goes to the training area, and then back to the forest.
- This fight is ffffffucking awesome. Its one of the few original fight scenes at this point in Power Rangers that works well. there aren't any over the top explosions, due to the enclosed space, they don't slow down the footage or zoom in on it at any point, its just Evil Wolzard wailing on Good Wolzard, a fight I'm guessing a lot of people were disappointed didn't happen in Magiranger. It combines martial arts, swordplay, props, some actually creative use of the set, its wonderful to watch.
- But the fight doesn't have a purpose.
- There isn't anything important going on, because as soon as the fight is over, they snap Nick out of it. Its incredibly anticlimactic, as Leanbow just says "I love you", and because Nick's actor can't act, he yells "DAD!" in a way that's probably supposed to sound emotional, but instead sounds like him being very angry at his dad. The Master's shadow flies out of him, and then Nick says "Now I know what you went through" to his dad in a completely nonsensical line.
- This fight, the ONLY good part of these two episodes, has no reason to exist, because from this point on, the episode becomes a note for note, scene by scene, LINE BY LINE adaptation of Magiranger's finale. Like the training sequence, the only important part of this is to show that Nick can perform his dad's special move. Its honestly possible that this fight was only included because the writer REALLY wanted to have a Wolzard v Wolzard scene, even if it made no sense for the plot.
- At the record store, Toby fires Phineas. Moving on.
- Then we go to the ruined base, where Daggeron, Udonna, Leanbow, and Claire (A fifth comic relief character who has no overall importance to the finale in any way) are cleaning up the base. Udonna suddenly gets a terrible feeling, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. Then, the Snow Prince, a filler character with more importance in Magiranger, shows up and says that the Mystic Mother, the source of all magic, has been killed. Claire asks who that is, rightfully since she's never been mentioned before.
- Hoo boy, who's ready for Some Bullshit?
- Its Rita Repulsa. Rita Repulsa is the Mystic Mother. There is no reason for this other than blatant fanwank and they pull it off about as well as Operation Overdrive's anniversary special does. Alright, plot first, then I can talk about this. The Master showed up in... unnamed magic palace, planning to kill the Mystic Mother and end good magic ONES AND FOR ALL. She casts a spell (Which has the exact same fucking name as it does in Magiranger are you even FUCKING TRYING), but it fails, and The Master kills he, but not before she sends the Snow Prince away.
- So, the problem with the Mystic Mother being Rita Repulsa is problematic in so many ways. First, there's the completely superficial nature of it. Magiel, the Mystic Mother's Sentai counterpart, is played by Machiko Soga, in what would be her final role, as she passed away only a month after the episode aired. Machiko Soga played Bandora in Zyuranger, who was adapted into Rita Repulsa, obviously. The only reason this character is Rita is because they have the same actor. There isn't a reason for her to be Rita Repulsa at all in the story, especially when you consider that Rita Repulsa is a Space Witch, and has no connections to anything in the story. In Magiranger, the casting was definitely intentional, but it was more a fun nod than something stupid like this.
- The second problem is the voice actor, who isn't even close to doing a decent impression of Barbara Goodson. They try to get in Rita's catchphrase (YOU'RE GIVING ME A HEADACHE) but the VA can't pull it off at all. Its really awful and cringy. The third, and absolute most massive problem is a very simple one.
- She doesn't need to be here.
- The Mystic Mother wasn't something established in the story until this very moment. They could have cut her entirely, and nothing in the story would have changed. This is our first step to this finale becoming the exact same as Magiranger's finale.
- The Magiranger scene plays out exactly the same, the only major difference being that the human character, Rin, is replaced digitally with the Snow Prince... except in scenes they couldn't edit. Whoops. Of course, the difference in tone here comes from the fact that Machiko Soga and Daisuke Namikawa are brilliant in the roles. Magiel manages to deliver a really fantastic speech to N Ma about how he'll only destroy himself if he continues to indulge his hunger, which is better than Rita throwing out a pretty generic insult.
- So, next scene has Daggeron and Leanbow leaving to go and defeat The Master. Nick really wants to go, but Leanbow says that he's needed on Earth to protect it from monster attacks. Daggeron also gives him Jenji.
- This scene has a Sentai counterpart, and god. It's so much better in every way. Isamu, Wolzard the Magiranger's father, and Hikaru, MagiShine and MagiBlue's husband, plan to head to Magitopia and defeat N Ma. Kai, MagiRed, really wants to go. Isamu says that he's need on Earth to prevent any Infershia attacks. Kai says that he's as strong as his dad.
- To test this, Isamu takes him to a magical training area. This is where the training scene from the start of the episode comes in. Isamu, in his monster form, which is called Blagel, challenges Kai. If Kai can defeat him, then he will go with them to fight N Ma, but if he fails, he stays. Blagel introduces the special technique, the Fatal Blade. The technique can create miracles if used properly, and Kai will have to get past it in order to beat Blagel.
- Kai transforms, and freezes up before he can attack. He then lets out a super attack, which Blagel deflects. Kai is knocked out in a single blow, failing the challenge. Blagel transforms back into isamu, who gives a speech about courage to Kai. He says that courage is about believing in yourself, and that Kai needs to find his courage to be truly strong. This plays into Kai's character for this and the next episode. Also, in the scene after this, Hikaru gives the Magirangers Smokey the magic cat to take care of. I mention this for a reason.
- So, cut to Black Lance running through the city, saying that he's going to defeat the Rangers. There isn't much to say about the fight, since its the same in both versions, being a mecha fight. In mystic Force, Black Lance says that Nick isn't as strong as his father, which is something that means absolutely nothing in the context of Mystic Force. In the Magiranger version, MagiRed says to himself that his father managed to beat Sleipnir all on his own, you know, actually playing into his current arc.
- Also they cut out the other Rangers saying anything during this scene. The other Rangers might as well not be here, since Nick's the only one that's ever mentioned during it. Nick's a fucking terrible character.
- This is immediately followed by the Whit Ranger, who is Udonna, by the way, confronting Sculpin. She asks why they still fight for The Master, considering most of the Terrors have been killed. He says "Because" and then they fight. The Magiranger version of this is... basically exactly the same, actually. Its just longer since the episode isn't trying to shove in a bunch of shit at once. The main point of difference is that MagiMother, who is the Magiranger's mother, asks Dagon why Infershia fights at all, if there is a reason. Once again, Dagon basically replies "Because".
- The Solaris Knight and Wolf Warrior arrive in unnamed heaven place, and head into the castle, which consists of PROBABLY the worst green screen effect I've seen in a while. The Master shows himself, throws out some generic threats, and then they charge at each other. Once again, The Magiranger version of this is better.
- It plays out the exact same, of course, except instead of a green screen, hey, its an actual set! Sure its just a room with black cloth on the walls and fake rubble everywhere, but its a fuckin set! N Ma arrives, and gives some continuity nods, as Wolzard had managed to, uh, remove one of N Ma's eyes in the backstory of the season. MagiShine declares that he will break himself free of this fate of death, and the two attack.
- CUT TO SHITTY FIGHT SCENE. The White Ranger and Sculpin fight for an overly long amount of time, mostly consisting of out of character wire fu and explosions, with nothing coming from it other than Udonna getting her ass kicked. Guess what does this better? That's right, Magiranger does! The fight scene is incredibly simple, most of it is just MagiMother and Dagon locking weapons as they talk. Its pretty generic, MagiMother saying that courage will overcome the powers of darkness, which Dagon calls pure dreck. But like, there's dialog. There's character stuff going on. The Mystic Force version gives us nothing besides a bad fight.
- Also, the White Ranger suit looks a lot cheaper than the MagiMother one. I have no idea what happened there.
- Black Lance kicks the Rangers' asses in a few seconds. Magiranger actually has this be a character thing instead of just instantly knocking them out of the mech, with them getting beaten causing MagiRed to ask why he's so weak. He then declares that he can't beat Sleipnir, and then they're knocked out of the mech.
- Mystic Force follows this up with a continuation of the White Ranger v Sculpin fight, with Sculpin also almost instantly knocking Udonna out and causing her to unmorph. Sculpin laughs at them like the generic villain he is. Magiranger just has MagiMother run over to them after their knocked out. Honestly, both ways work, its not that bad.
- Back to the green screen ruins! Solaris Knight and Wolf Warrior try to attack The Master, but he deflects their attacks back at them. He then whips his tentacles out, and gobbles up their knight powers. The Master declares that eating good magic makes him stronger. He then shoots his tentacles at Solaris Knight, and shocks him with evil electricity, killing him in possibly the least dramatic way possible. Leanbow says that he will avenge him, and then uses the secret technique. He's killed off camera.
- The Magiranger version plays out the same, until we get to MagiShine's death. For some reason, they completely changed how he's killed in Mystic Force. N Ma wraps MagiShine in one of his tentacles, and then electro-shocks him. As he stumbles back, the monster slashes his tentacle at him, causing MagiShine to fall to the ground. Isamu yells out to him, as Hikaru pulls out his wedding ring, and utters his wife's name one final time, before dropping it.
- Man, its like actually making a character death dramatic and important actually makes a scene better
- back in Mystic Force, Sculpin fires a blast at the Rangers, but Jenji jumps out of nowhere, and takes the blast for them. He dies a completely undramatic death. Sculpin then grabs on to Udonna, and tells Black Lance to deal with the Rangers, before he teleports himself and Udonna to the Underworld. He does this for no reason, by the way. Might be a tactic to lower the Rangers' morale, but I doubt the writers thought that far. He probably does it because that's what happens in the Sentai!
- In Magiranger, the Magiranger are freaking out about how they're actually losing. Urara, MagiBlue and MagiShine's wife, steps forward, declaring that they can still fight. Dagon fires a blast at her, but Smokey jumps out and blocks the blast. Hislamp falls to the ground, and then disappears as Urara picks it up. Its still not incredibly well done, but there's at least an attempt to make it dramatic. His death is mostly symbolism for MagiShine's own death.
- Dagon, not being an idiot, fires another shot at the family, but MagiMother rushes forwards and blocks the blow, unmorphing. She then gives a speech to her children, about how they can do anything that she and their father can, because they are their children. Dagon doesn't take kindly to her trying to lift their spirits, and decides to break her by taking her to Infershia, and see the inevitable outcome of their victory.
- The Mystic Force episode ends with Black lance stepping towards the Rangers. This is approximately two thirds into the first episode of Magiranger's finale. I still have another episode to do.
- Part two starts where we left off, with Nick getting edgy angry and trying to be a badass and utterly failing. The scene basically just copies the Sentai version of the scene, with a few bad original shots. Things go to full shit when Red goes into his battlizer form. Red asks if the others want in on this, and then they kill Black Lance with a rider kick.
- In Magiranger, this acts as the end of the episode's arc, as Kai breaks out of his stupor due to his mother's speech. He decalres that he's his father's son, and can do anything. He breaks Sleipnir's shield, and then the other Magiranger join in. They defeat him with a rider kick. Sleipnir dies realizing that Sphinx might have been right, they can't defeat the Magiranger.
- The Master shows up, and throws down Daggeron and Leanbow's limp corpses. For some reason, even though they never had a relationship, Blue shows worry over Daggeron. We also take another step towards Red's complete unlikability as he declares that everything they've done was pointless because his daddy's dead wah
- The way they have The Master toss the bodies down is unintentionally hilarious. They give him hammy, out of place dialog, and shoot new scenes of the bodies falling. Its very clear that the bodies are just the empty suits, and somebody in a crane is dropping them. Seriously, Leanbow's corpse has a classic bad dummy stance as it falls. And they do this in slow motion, so it becomes even more noticeable.
- Sentai scene does it better, blah blah blah. MagiBlue has an actual reason to freak out over Hikaru's death, and her actor does have an actual freakout. The acting in this season is really good. MagiRed, however, has a much more understandable fear: Their dad was the strongest warrior ever, and he couldn't beat N Ma. He says he fought like his dad because he thought it would help them win, but it doesn't seem to be the case now.
- Also, the corpses being thrown down in Magiranger is just a stagehand tossing the costumes to the ground from just off camera. it actually works better, since you don't see much of the throw, and it makes them look like actual limp bodies rather than dummies.
- Xander, the Green Ranger, turns to The Master, and asks what he even wants with their world. The Master replies by saying that their world is now his world, and picks them up with his tentacles, deciding to show them what his world looks like. He then starts eating time itself, shown by mountains being created and oceans drying up.
- The Sentai scene is the same, but with better dialog, MagiGreen saying that they can't give up. N Ma says that them having any hope and courage at all is ridiculous, and starts to eat time. The difference in the scene comes from them cutting out a few ways of showing time pass, including a hilarious bit where a skull bursts into dust. Maybe that's only funny to me.
- Magiranger actually has an extended part of the scene, where the Magiranger are confused about where they are. The wasteland around them looks like Infershia... but they can see the sky. N Ma explains that he can eat time itself, and that this wasteland is the future of their world. He also says that consuming time isn't a great feat for him. What Mystic Force does is serviceable about getting the point across, but the main problem is that they don't actually explain what's going on.
- This is actually where the first part of Magiranger's finale ends. We have less than 16 minutes to adapt another 20 minutes. Good job, guys.
- After The Master delivers a pretty amazing line ("You will become a part of the dust that I will walk upon, that will be your one, and only, purpose!") Nick says "Uh uh" and they go into the Megazord. It barely puts up a fight, as The Master consumes its attacks like nothing, and that their fear just makes it even tastier. With the Megazord destroyed, the Rangers runs cared into a nearby cave, starting the single worst part of the series.
- The fight in Magiranger is a lot longer, and a lot more brutal. They cut out the extended sequence of N Ma repeatedly slamming the mech's head into the ground, each of the Magiranger voicing their regret at not being able to save the world. N Ma destroys the mech, and the fires a blast at the Magiranger, causing them to run into a cave.
- Here it is. The worst scene in Mystic Force. The one that makes our main character a completely unlikable piece of shit. Nick INSTANTLY GIVES UP. He says he gives up in an incredibly prick-ish manner too. Its not even that giving up isn't a reasonable thing at this point, its his dialog that make him come off as a MASSIVE DOUCHEBAG. Madison, the Blue Ranger, decides to give her only other contribution to the story... by metaphorically giving Nick a blowjob. She says that Nick was the one who held them together (He isn't the guy is a a jerk the entire series), that giving up isn't an option for him (He has given up multiple times throughout the series), and that they're a team and he's the leader (That one is technically correct but still wrong because he's a douche).
- The The Master bursts through a wall and starts shooting at them.
- Magiranger, of course, does this entire thing better. The scene starts with it seeming like they've all given up (A pretty reasonable thing at this point, as said above), but Tsubasa, MagiYellow, asks Kai what their dad told him before he left. Kai explains that, when an ultimate form of courage is reached, the Fatal Blade technique is supposed to bring forth miracles. This reignites the hope in the Magiranger instantly, but Kai is still worried. He says that miracles are difficult to pull off.
- Then, Houka, MagiPink, points to something. A flower, growing in the middle of a wasteland. A miracle. Houka says that, if the flower can fight back against evil, then they can too, and that they can pull off a miracle and save the world. N Ma comes in, and crushes the flower, claiming that miracles don't exist in his world.
- Back to Mystic Fart, Nick is the only one who's left standing after The Master blasts them, because he's the fuckin best ranger and everyone loves him right. Anyway, he gets up, and does the secret technique thing, managing to crack open The Master's brain case, and then cause him to release all the time he ate. The other Ranger grab onto him, and head back to the past. This is the closest Nick gets to ever actually being a chosen one.
- This is his big moment, not even defeating The Master, just managing to save their asses. This wasn't anything actually that important in the grand scheme of things. Why even HAVE the chosen one plot point if you weren't going to do anything with it? All it does is make Nick look like a self-important asshole for a few episodes, and ultimately does nothing. You can't even argue something stupid like Darth vader still being the chosen one because he kills Palpatine, Nick does FUCKING NOTHING!
- Magiranger time, N Ma attacks them, but the others put up a shield to defend Kai. They each give him a boost in confidence, enforcing the familial support theme that's been a thing throughout the season. N Ma breaks through the shield, as Kai steps forward, realizing what his dad meant. His courage is what controls his future, and he is the only one that can do that. He performs the Fatal Blade technique, shattering N Ma's brain case. He stabs the monster in the stomach, rather brutally, causing him to eject all the time he consumed. The other Magiranger grab onto Kai, and head back to the past.
- Basically, the big difference between this and the Mystic Force version is that this is the conclusion to a character arc, and not just the show saying that the Red Ranger is the one you should like, even if he's unlikable.
- So, the Mystic Force Rangers return to the present, and find that they're magic is gone... for some reason. Its never explained, and is something that kind of actively hurts the plot, but whatever. The Master is furious at them, but his tentacles shatter when he tries to attack them. Claire and the Snow Prince show up. Claire's plot throughout the show has been that she's wanted magical powers, but was still only training, so the conclusion to this is that she did nothing, and the Mystic Mother gave her powers. Yay for conclusions, I guess???
- The Master is confused, since he destroyed the Mystic Mother, but the Snow Prince explains that Mystic Mother transformed herself into light before she could be destroyed. The Master says that's fine, since he can just go back to the Underworld and gather his strength. Suddenly, Udonna appears, and says that the Underworld doesn't exist anymore. The Master is confused, but Sphinx shows up to explain. We'll talk about what happened in a moment, because this is the scene I really want to talk about.
- So... this scene is a literal exact recreation of the Magiranger version. As in, shot the same, the dialog is nearly exactly the same, the structure of the scene is the same... It's shameless, honestly. It shows how lazy the writers were getting at this point. Power Rangers isn't supposed to copy the Sentai, that was never the true intention of the show. It was to create new stories with existing footage, and just lazing out and doing the Sentai is... Well, it's always come off as despicable to me.
- And it's not like the series hasn't been doing original things, because it has been, no matter how stupid and bad they are. The completely original Koragg vs Koragg fight was the best part of this finale, as I said before. And I think I know the reason why they copied it so shamelessly.
- They couldn't get the N Ma suit. At least, not a version with the brain case.
- No joke, the only original shots of The Master happen at this point in the episode, the only scene where he doesn't have his brain case. You can tell by the different quality, and by how actually decent the costume's mouth is moving. I have no idea why they couldn't get the version with the brain case. Maybe it broke, maybe it got lost? Its bizarre, and if I was a betting man, I would say that the finale would be a lot different if they could've gotten a suit that does match up with the stock footage.
- So, Itassis' betrayal. Necrolai revived Itassis, who manages to destroy Sculpin, leaving her as the last remaining god I mean terror There's actually a bit here I have to praise Mystic Force for, and its how it managed to handle Necrolai's face turn far better than Magiranger did Vancuria's. In Magiranger, her motivation for bringing back Sphinx is... she's rather just work for her, rather than Dagon. Its pretty weak. Mystic Force actually kind of sets up her face turn, and her reasoning for reviving Itassis is that she was the only one who showed her kindness. Not a great motivation, but it is a motivation. Unfortunately, the set up of her face turn seemed to ruin Itassis' face turn. Oh well, arm for an arm.
- The scenes are basically the same after that, at least in concept. The fights between Sphinx and Dagon and Itassis and Sculpin are completely different. Sphinx manages to take out Dagon before he can land a single blow, showing how powerful she is now that she has courage. Dagon dies realizing that darkness isn't absolute. The fight is a lot more elaborate in Mystic Force, featuring lots of wire fu. While it is nice to have Sculpin at least put up a fight before dying, it kind of ruins the impact. The fight isn't bad, mostly due to it, like the Koragg vs Koragg fight, taking place in a set where they can't have tons of explosions. The wire fu aspect doesn't make any sense though, since they're giants at this point, and giants can't really move like that. Its a physics thing. Anyway, Sculpin dies still thinking that The Master can win, because he's an idiot.
- Itassis shoots The Master, causing him to explode. She says that he'll be back soon, and then questions why Udonna is crying. "She sais "Because my husband's fucking dead". Leelee shows up and says that Necrolai can revive them, which she does. Daggeron and Leanbow are back, and I guess Jenji is also alive now too fuckin thanks for that. Also Necrolai suddenly becomes a human. Tearful reunions all around. I don't have much to say about the Magiranger version of the scene, but Vancuria doesn't turn into a human since she already has two human looking forms. Also, Urara is happy that Smokey is alive, and unlike with Jenji, the audience are too because Smokey is great.
- The Master returns for the final actual final REAL final showdown! The Rangers don't have any magic, and apparently no one else does either. The Mystic Mother shows up and says that they're never without magic, which nobody really understands. Then, Toby and Phineas show up, Toby with the humans of the town, and Phineas with the creatures of the forest. Apparently it was a plot point in the first episode that humans were scared of the creatures in the forest, and then it was never thing again until this moment. Writing!
- Anyway, the crowd declares that they believe in magic (Believing in magic is how they get magic in Mystic Force, so I have no clue how they lost their magic) and the Rangers morph. This is actually a case where copying the Sentai probably would have worked better, since the courage aspect would have played into the townsfolk and the forest creatures becoming friends. It takes courage to stop a race war, after all. After they transform, the Rangers yell out their boring roll call as explosions happen behind them.
- The Magiranger version is much less stupid. Since they never lost their magic, Magiel shows up and says that they can defeat N Ma if they work together as a family. Cue the AWESOME roll call accompanied by the theme song. The roll call is awesome here because they actually bother doing the special effects, and its not just boring explosions.
- The Rangers start firing all of their magic at The Master, who starts to devour it. Since this is all their magic, and magic is never ending, the stream never ends. This leads to The Master overeating, and exploding. The same goes for the Magiranger version, but infinite courage is a lot more poignant than infinite magic. I'd like to compare our main villains yet again. Last time i compared their first lines, now I will compare their last lines.
- First, The Master's:
- "I! CAN! NNOT TAKE! ANYMORE! I! HAVE! DEVOURED! ALL I CAN!"
- Pretty generic final words, befitting his large ham portrayal on the show. Like I said, he's charming in how over the top he is, and he kind of makes the finale a lot more watchable, but its still nothing compared to N Ma's rather chilling final words.
- "Will this satisfy my hunger? More! Feed me more!"
- So the Rangers won, time for the epilogue! Comedy with Jenji, SKIP. Madison talks to Nick, who's planning on leaving to visit his adopted parents. Madison asks if he's going to come back, but Nick, being an asshole, doesn't think he has any reason to come back. Madison proceeds to list off a bunch of reasons for him to come back, to which he basically responds "I'll consider it" before tossing a dirty blanket at her. Madison even has to reassure herself that Nick will come back, making it even more obvious he's not coming back.
- So, other characters. Chip, the Yellow Ranger... this is the first time I've brought him up because he had no importance to the plot at all. Well, Chip is being Chip, that is, a pretty likable guy who tells exaggerated stories. He's telling one about Necrolai, to which Necrolai herself denies. Apparently, her and Toby are dating. Could've done so much better, Necrolai. Leelee and Phineas are still dating, Phineas has his job back, and Xander is the new manager of the record store. Vida is still a DJ there, along with...
- Matoombo. Matoombo's alive again. What the fuck. He exploded from the inside out and then melted, there were no remains. How did he come back. Fuck you, Mystic Force.
- Meanwhile, Nick is leaving the town with Udonna and Leanbow on motorcycles. Claire is in the tree base, taking Udonna's place. She vanishes, and its finally THE END.
- So, what's the biggest problem with this finale? Simple, its too rushed. They had to cram five episodes into three, so of course it was rushed... but even then, there's still filler. Fight scenes that go on to long, useless comic relief sections, and just a whole lot of bad ideas. The filler becomes obvious when you compare it to the episodes its almost exactly copying, so its a wonder why they didn't just copy it more. At least then things would be explained.
- How would I do the finale to Mystic Force? Well, I, personally, would have had Evil Nick be the final boss. The Master takes control of him, and uses the Koragg armor to wreak havoc for more than two minutes. The Rangers have to figure out how to defeat their friend without killing him, and in the end, Nick becomes the chosen one by breaking free of the curse, with the help of his friends, and destroying The Master.
- The Mystic Force finale is bad, it consists almost entirely of fight scenes, any Ranger who's name doesn't start with an "N" is ignored almost completely, and its filled to the brim with filler. The fact that it copies the Sentai, and does it incredibly poorly, just makes it even worse in my eyes.
- Truly, this was a Mystic Farce.
