  1. How are facebook URL comments actually gained? [mysterious]
  2. So I have a question... I've talking with a few people over Skype about how this works and all the answers were different and it just turned into an argument with no conclusion.

  14. See: https://www.sharedcount.com/#url=http://www.gsa-online.de/
  15. There are 11 comments.
  16.
  17. Everyone knows that likes to a URL are gained from an embedded like button on a webpage. Shares are next to obvious.
  18.
  19. However, comments are a bit weird. To gain a comment on a URL, I thought it would be writing a comment on a share of that URL. However, after testing that and then running a query with the Facebook Graph API, the comments don't change.
  20.
  21. I also went ahead and embedded a Facebook comment plugin on my website, several users commented, and no, that didn't increase the amount of comments either. What is left to try?
  22. Commenting a share on account and on a page may be seen different
  23. Interesting, so you're implying comments on shares on a page do not count?
  24. I would have thought that was the comment plugin but you've said it's not so I have no idea.
  25.
  26. Did you lint the url after?
  27.
  28. Also, what is it counted as if you post a Facebook status with a link in?
  29. http://prntscr.com/a0bl0f - I guess this is how to get comments on a specific url?
  30. I've already tried that. Didn't do anything for me. Have you tried it?
  31. I've just tried comment box, it didnt match with that website.
  32. No. I don't know how to get that information about links. Could you tell me so that I can try. Maybe I can think of something.
  33. [{"url":"google.com","normalized_url":"http:\/\/www.google.com\/","share_count":9933440,"like_count":4177862,"comment_count":2219601,"total_count":16330903,"click_count":265614,"comments_fbid":"381702034999","commentsbox_count":10140}]

  35. you make a request here via api . lets assume about google.com
  36. and you get response on json format like this
  37. comme ntsbox_count":10140}] << maybe this is count on box something
  38. Its the
  39. "comment_count":2219601,
  40.
  41. which he's trying to find
  42.
  43. He says comment_count is the amount of comments on a shared link within Facebook.
  44. commentsbox_count":8}] < this seems to change when you comment
  45.
  46. as we are talking about fb comments plugin
  47. commect_count includes total of comments inside facebook
  48. commentsbox_count - comments on that page
  49. He says comment_count is the amount of comments on a shared link within Facebook.
  50. Thanks for the link!
  51. I just tested that
  52. And numbers goes up
  53. commentsbox_count":8}] < this seems to change when you comment
  54.
  55. as we are talking about fb comments plugin
  56. commect_count includes total of comments inside facebook
  57. commentsbox_count - comments on that page
  58. Inside of Facebook. So at least that is narrowed down.
  59.
  60. Someone earlier suggested that the comment has to be on a link shared on a personal profile, not on a page. Do you think that's true? I've tested with a page and that did not work. I'm going to test with a profile.
  61. when i was testing some links even when someone commented on link on a status that is accessible only to friends not public comments being counted , have tested it long time ago but i will run a test now again
  62. Yea i have tested it on private profile
  63. and this count goes up
  64. comment_count":1
  65. Yes it should be treated the same on a public profile, just the same as private.
  66.
  67. A manipulation would be to post "Only Me" shares and then spamming comments to increase this.
  68. Yes it should be treated the same on a public profile, just the same as private.
  69.
  70. A manipulation would be to post "Only Me" shares and then spamming comments to increase this.
  71. Its what I'm doing at the moment to see if it changes.
  72. Every comment on the link share has just increase shares:
  73.
  74. "share": {
  75. "comment_count": 0,
  76. "share_count": 15
  77. },
  78. Btw, if anyone wants to check their metrics live, go here: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/graph-api/reference/v2.5/url
