- How are facebook URL comments actually gained? [mysterious]
- So I have a question... I've talking with a few people over Skype about how this works and all the answers were different and it just turned into an argument with no conclusion.

- See: https://www.sharedcount.com/#url=http://www.gsa-online.de/
- There are 11 comments.
- Everyone knows that likes to a URL are gained from an embedded like button on a webpage. Shares are next to obvious.
- However, comments are a bit weird. To gain a comment on a URL, I thought it would be writing a comment on a share of that URL. However, after testing that and then running a query with the Facebook Graph API, the comments don't change.
- I also went ahead and embedded a Facebook comment plugin on my website, several users commented, and no, that didn't increase the amount of comments either. What is left to try?
- Commenting a share on account and on a page may be seen different
- Interesting, so you're implying comments on shares on a page do not count?
- I would have thought that was the comment plugin but you've said it's not so I have no idea.
- Did you lint the url after?
- Also, what is it counted as if you post a Facebook status with a link in?
- http://prntscr.com/a0bl0f - I guess this is how to get comments on a specific url?
- I've already tried that. Didn't do anything for me. Have you tried it?
- I've just tried comment box, it didnt match with that website.
- No. I don't know how to get that information about links. Could you tell me so that I can try. Maybe I can think of something.
- [{"url":"google.com","normalized_url":"http:\/\/www.google.com\/","share_count":9933440,"like_count":4177862,"comment_count":2219601,"total_count":16330903,"click_count":265614,"comments_fbid":"381702034999","commentsbox_count":10140}]
- comme ntsbox_count":10140}] << maybe this is count on box something
- you make a request here via api . lets assume about google.com
- and you get response on json format like this
- comme ntsbox_count":10140}] << maybe this is count on box something
- Its the
- "comment_count":2219601,
- which he's trying to find
- He says comment_count is the amount of comments on a shared link within Facebook.
- commentsbox_count":8}] < this seems to change when you comment
- as we are talking about fb comments plugin
- commect_count includes total of comments inside facebook
- commentsbox_count - comments on that page

- Thanks for the link!
- I just tested that
- And numbers goes up
- commentsbox_count":8}] < this seems to change when you comment

- commentsbox_count - comments on that page
- Inside of Facebook. So at least that is narrowed down.
- Someone earlier suggested that the comment has to be on a link shared on a personal profile, not on a page. Do you think that's true? I've tested with a page and that did not work. I'm going to test with a profile.
- when i was testing some links even when someone commented on link on a status that is accessible only to friends not public comments being counted , have tested it long time ago but i will run a test now again
- Yea i have tested it on private profile
- and this count goes up
- comment_count":1
- Yes it should be treated the same on a public profile, just the same as private.
- A manipulation would be to post "Only Me" shares and then spamming comments to increase this.

- Its what I'm doing at the moment to see if it changes.
- Every comment on the link share has just increase shares:
- "share": {
- "comment_count": 0,
- "share_count": 15
- },
- Btw, if anyone wants to check their metrics live, go here: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/graph-api/reference/v2.5/url
