  4. Prologue: The Wild God Wakes
  5. 2000 Years ago, Pan, the god of the wild, told a passing sailor to tell humanity that "the great god Pan is dead", then fell into a long slumber. While regular mortals believed this, other beings did not. Satyrs (half-man/half-goat beings) sensed that Pan was slumbering, not dead. For 2000 years, Satyrs searched for the location where the wild god sleeps, but to no avail. In the present day, "western civilization" (AKA the Greek gods and everything connected to them) lies all across America. Mount Olympus is located above the Empire State Building, and the main entrance to the Underworld is in Los Angeles. It is at this day and age that Pan finally wakes from his long slumber. He finds that his secret sanctuary is now located on the outskirts of a city named Tucson, in the state of Arizona. Pan explores this new world a bit and learns of Camp Half-Blood, a secret place where the children of the Greek Gods can train to fight the various monsters. Pan also begins to detect the presence of ancient monsters that, like himself, haven't been seen in the mortal world for as long as he has been slumbering. He senses an ancient evil, one that may be more powerful then the gods themselves, that has begun rising from the depths of Tartarus. Pan fears a war is coming, one that will be fought by God, Demigod, and nature spirits alike, as they oppose this ancient evil. The gods seem to be siring a lot of Demigod offspring in this day and age, so Pan decides to join them and sire offspring of his own. Before long, he has 6 Demigod children: 3 sons and 3 daughters. Since Camp Half-Blood is on the other side of the country, Pan decides to keep his offspring in his secret sanctuary and train them himself. However, he knows the time is coming when the Satyrs will come for him and his return will become known to the world. Keeping up with happenings at Camp Half-Blood, Pan learns of a young Satyr whose main desire is finding the nature god himself. Pan decides this Satyr will be his "chosen one" who will find Pan and announce his return. He just needs to lead this Satyr to his secret sanctuary. The time has come for Pan to send his Demigod offspring out into the world.

  8. Chapter 1: A Mystery Demigod Gives Us A Lift
  9. Annabeth, Grover, and I are in a hurry. We must get to the Underworld (the entrance to which is currently located in California) and retrieve Zeus's stolen Master Lightning Bolt before the summer solstice. After an encounter with Ares, and a ride in a truck with zoo animals, we find ourselves in Las Vegas. Not sure where to go from here, we stumble into the Lotus Hotel and Casino. We have barely started indulging ourselves when a red-haired teenage boy in a black shirt with flame patterns and green shorts grabs the 3 of us and forces us to leave the Casino.
  10.
  11. "This place is a trap. Ever heard of the Lotus Eaters?", the boy explains. All 3 of us were familiar with the Lotus Eaters and realize the hotel was their lair. The mysterious boy suddenly transforms into a dragon.
  12.
  13. "You folks need a lift?", The dragon-boy asks.
  14.
  15. "Who exactly are you?", I ask him.
  16.
  17. "A Demigod like you. My name is Michael. From my father, who is my god parent, I inherited the ability to take animal forms. My favorite is a dragon, like the form I'm in now", the boy explains. I don't know which Olympian would have that kind of power, and Annabeth is just as clueless (which is unusual for a daughter of Athena). Grover ponders for a bit. like he might have an idea about who this boy's father is, but he quickly dismisses it.
  18.
  19. "Can't be", Grover mutters to himself. We all climb onto the dragon's back and he flies us to Las Angeles in a matter of minutes (flying low enough that Zeus won't take notice and try to shoot us down. I explained to Michael that The Lord of the Sky isn't exactly my biggest fan right now). Michael returns to his human form, though I notice he kept dragon scales on his arms and legs.
  20.
  21. "These scales are near-invulnerable", Micheal explains, "Makes it kinda hard for monsters to injure me". He runs off, yelling back at us that he will more-than-likely see us again real soon. The three of us move on with our quest. We travel into the underworld and meet with Hades only to learn we'd been tricked. After escaping from Hades and finding ourselves on the beach, Ares appears and I confront him. After Ares admits that he tricked me into taking the lightning bolt to Hades, and reveals that he has Hades's Helm of Darkness (which was stole n at the same time as Zeus's lightning bolt), The God of War and I prepare to fight.
  22.
  23.
  24. Chapter 2: A God Gets Skunked
  25. As I sword fight with Ares, I notice a young boy and even younger girl watching the battle. both of them have brown hair and the girl looks like she could be the boy's little sister. The boy is wearing a light blue shirt and light brown shirts. The girl is wearing a yellow skirt over a blue shirt with white sleeves. Annabeth and Grover notice the boy and girl as well.
  26.
  27. "Those 2 kids watching the battle have a scent similar to that dragon-boy from before", Grover notes. He and Annabeth quickly forget the two kids and resume watching my fight with Ares. The next time I look in the direction of the mysterious boy and girl they have vanished, but Annabeth and Grover point out 2 hedgehogs that are scurrying away from the spot where the boy and girl had been standing. The two hedgehogs disappear around a corner. I focus on fending off Ares's attacks, which isn't easy. At one point, I manage to knock Ares back away from me. As he recovers and prepares to attack again, a skunk runs down the road in our direction. Annabeth, Grover, and I back away as the skunk approaches. Ares is looking at it, wondering why such a small creature is running towards him. Without warning, the skunk stops and does a complete 180 turn (so its back is towards Ares) and hits the God of War point-blank in the face with a blast of skunk spray. Ares begins gagging and then vanishes in a flash of light. The skunk suddenly transforms into a human boy wearing a yellow sweatshirt and light brown pants. his hair is black and white, like the fur he had in skunk form, and he has a bushy black and white tail protruding form his back (as if he didn't fully turn human).
  28.
  29. "I'm Milo, a Demigod with the same god father as Alfred and Lilly, the two kids you saw turn into hedgehogs, and Michael, whom you met in Las Vegas. I'd tell you my, or should I say our, father's name, but you wouldn't believe me if I did", the skunk boy explains. Before we can respond, he turns back into a skunk and runs off. The two hedgehogs from before emerge from nearby bushes and chase after him. I'm wondering just who these weird Demigod kids with the power to become animals are, and what god could possibly be their father. I don't have time to contemplate that right now though. Annabeth, Grover, and I hurry back to New York and make our way up to Mount Olympus, where i return the Master Lightning Bolt to Zeus. Later, after I've returned to Camp Half-Blood and rested up from my quest, I ask Chiron and Dionysus if they know which Olympian's demigod offspring would have the power to assume animal forms and tell them about Michael, Alfred, Lilly, and Milo. Neither of them has ever heard of Demigods with that kind of power before. Grover prepares to set off in search of Pan, having earned his Searcher's License following our quest.
  30.
  31. "I have a pretty good idea where to start looking for Pan", Grover hints. He walks off, leaving me pondering what he's planning. I hear a loud splash down by the beach and turn around to see my father, Poseidon, riding a big wave on a massive surfboard. he waves to me as he rides the wave to shore. I decide to question him about the mysterious Demigods I'd encountered. He hasn't ever head of Demigods that can turn into animals either, but says he will ask Zeus about it next time he visits Mount Olympus. Poseidon walks back into the ocean and vanishes. Later, as summer comes to an end and I prepare to head home to my mother, I'm still thinking about those weird Demigod kids. I decide not to mention them to her. Little do I know, she will soon find out about them anyway.
  32.
  33. Chapter 3: I Meet The Wallaby Sisters
  34. A few months after I left Camp Half-Blood, my mother is in the kitchen cooking dinner when there is a knock at our front door. Mom answers the door and screams. I approach her and find 2 wallabies (marsupial creatures that are like small kangaroos) standing on our front porch. As I approach them, the wallabies transform into human girls, albeit keeping their tails.
  35.
  36. "My name is Camille", the first girl announces. She's wearing a white hoodie and a short red skirt barely longer than a miniskirt.
  37.
  38. "And I am Madeline. The two of us are sisters", the other girl adds. She's wearing a purple track suit. Both girls have red hair. Madeline's hair is short, whereas Camille has her hair tied up in pigtails.
  39.
  40. "I take it you are demigod children of the same god as Michael, Alfred, Lilly, and Milo?", I ask. Both girls nod their head, saying yes. Before he can converse further, I head a loud roar and the sound of something big running in our direction.
  41.
  42. "Let's end the introductions here. We need your help to slay that thing", the Wallaby sisters explain. I grab a pen from my room, which turns into a sword when I uncap it, and rush off in the direction of the approaching monster, to see what we're up against. A huge, bronze bull is rushing up the road. I notice a girl is clinging to the bull's back. As the bull rushes past me, I catch a flash of blonde hair and realize its Annabeth on the bull's back. I swing Riptide and slice the bull's tail off. At the same time the bull tosses Annabeth off its back. She lands in the bushes outside my house. I rush to make sure Annabeth is alright. The bull turns around and rushes back towards us.
  43.
  44. "Over here, you big metal hamburger on legs", someone yells. I notice a 4th girl walking towards us, brandishing a double-barrel shotgun. As she gets closer, I realize it's Clarisse, daughter of Ares. She's my "frienemy" from camp. The bull turns around to face Clarisse, A shotgun blast rings out, and the bull's head is blown off and flies through the air, smashing though a window into my living room. It comes within inches of impaling my mother. The rest of the bull's body begins running around in circles aimlessly. Camille and Madeline step out into the street. They each pull something out of their pockets. The items in their hand transform into boomerangs, which i can tell are made of celestial bronze. Camille and Madeline throw their boomerangs right at the bull, slicing it in half. Both halves of the bull fall over and explode. Clarisse walks up to me, the shotgun in her hands transforming into a sword.
  45.
  46. "There's a second Colchis Bull heading towards Camp Half-Blood. Let's move out", She yells. I turn around to check on Annabeth and when I turn back around, the wallaby sisters have vanished and Clarisse is way ahead of us. Annabeth and I race to catch up to Clarisse. As we approach the Hudson, I whistle and 3 Hippocampi (creatures with the front of a horse and a fish tail in the back) swim up to us. We each climb on a Hippocampi and they carry us all the way to the shore of Camp Half-Blood.
  47.
  48. Chapter 4: A Dragon Flies Me Into The Bermuda Triangle
  49. We arrive to find several campers already battling the second bull. Several more are lying around wounded. Angered, I summon a tidal wave to launch myself at the bull. with one swing of Riptide, I decapitate the bull. Next, I thrust Riptide into the hole where the bull's head used to be, causing the bull to explode. The water shields me from the blast before receding. As the campers recover, Chiron leads Annabeth and I to the tree at the edge of the camp where a Demigod named Thalia, daughter of Zeus, had been nearly killed seven years ago. Zeus had transformed her into a tree to save her. Now, I can see that the tree is dying. Chiron points out something oozing from a hole in the tree and says the tree has been poisoned. After some discussion, we convince Chiron and Dionysus that we must go on a quest to find the Golden Fleece, as it is the only thing that can save Thalia's tree. Clarisse offers to take up the quest, but doesn't want Annabeth or me along for the ride. As Clarisse prepares to leave, Annabeth and I walk back to Thalia's tree. As we approach it, we notice six other people are gathered around the tree: Michael, Alfred, Lilly, Milo, Camille, and Madeline. The six of them are performing some kind of ritual where energy is flowing out of them and into the tree. The six of them notice us and end the ritual.
  50.
  51. "We channeled a bit of nature magic into Thalia's tree", Michael explains, "It will slow down the poison, but not cure it".
  52.
  53. "That gold fleece thing can cure it", Lilly adds, "Dad told us about it. The fleece can cure anything".
  54.
  55. "I take it the two of you are interested in searching for the Golden Fleece as well?", Alfred inquires. We both tell him we want to find it and save the camp.
  56.
  57. "I'll take Percy and Annabeth and go find the Fleece", Michael volunteers, "You five should go back to dad's place and let him know what's going on". Michael turns into his dragon form and Annabeth an I climb onto his back. Alfred, Lilly, Milo, Camille, and Madeline all turn into falcons and fly off to the west. Michael flies in the opposite direction, heading east.
  58.
  59. "The Golden Fleece is on an island in the Sea of Monsters, which is located in an area the local mortals call the Bermuda Triangle", Michael explains. When the ocean turns rough all of the sudden, I know we've entered the Sea of Monsters. We fly over what appears to be a circle of sharp, pointed rocks.
  60.
  61. "Charybdis", Annabeth explains, "A monster that guards the entrance to the Sea of Monsters". I realize the rocks are actually teeth.
  62.
  63. Chapter 5: Michael Goes Godzilla
  64. As we get close to the island where the Fleece is supposed to be, we come across an old warship sailing in the same direction. Clarisse is its captain. We land on the deck, and Clarisse starts to complain about how this is her quest, but when Michael reverts to his human form, Clarisse stops talking.
  65.
  66. "I think Clarisse has a crush", Annabeth teases.
  67.
  68. "Gross!", Michael adds, realizing he's the one Clarisse has a crush on. Clarisse says nothing else as we approach the island and look for a place to dock. When she tries to approach Michael, he turns into a lion and leaps to shore. He leads us to a place big enough for our ship to dock, then reverts to his human form.
  69.
  70. "Be advised, the Golden Fleece is guarded by a giant cyclops named Polyphemus", Michael points out. Annabeth acts a little nervous, and then explains that it was a Cyclops that attacked her, Thalia, and Luke seven years ago. We explore the island and come to a valley filled with sheep. The Golden Fleece is hanging in a tree on the other side of the valley. As we start walking towards the sheep, a large portion of the side of a nearby mountain bursts outward. A huge monster with one big eye on its face emerges from the rubble. I notice he has my friend Grover, who is supposed to be searching for a god named Pan, in his clutches. Annabeth, Michael, Clarisse and I forget about the fleece momentarily and rush over to save Grover. I slash at Polyphemus's arm with Riptide, causing him to drop Grover. Clarisse conjures a bazooka out of nowhere and blasts the Cyclops right in his chest. Michael begins growing and changing shape. At first, it looks like he's turning into a Tyrannosaurus Rex, but he grows bigger still. Then, he fires a beam of energy from his mouth and knocks Polyphemus on his butt. I realize Michael has taken the form of Godzilla.
  71.
  72. "I've seen a creature like this destroying other monsters in several mortal motion pictures", Michael explains. Michael chases Polyphemus back into his cave, and then pushes a boulder over to block the exit.
  73.
  74. "The sheep are guarding the fleece. Some of them are ravenous and will tear anyone who gets near them from limb to limb", Michael explains. As we wonder how we can reach the fleece, I notice something or someone in the distance, flying towards us. As the flying whatever-it-is gets close, I realize it is Lilly. She's in her human form, but with bird wings in place of her hands, making her look like a female Icarus. As Lilly reaches the island, she notices the fleece on its tree. One of her wings morphs back into a hand and she grabs the fleece as she flies by the tree, but with only one wing, she cant stay aloft and falls down among the sheep. The other sheep swarm around her, but then I notice a sheep breaking away from the pack with the Golden Fleece on its back. The sheep walks up to us, and begins changing shape. I realize Lilly disguised herself as a sheep so the real sheep wouldn't attack her.
  75.
  76. "Alfred's waiting for us back at camp", Lilly explains. We all head down to the warship and head back to Camp Half-Blood. Michael and Lilly are both too tired to shape-shift again, so they ride on the ship with us. Right after we leave the Sea of Monsters and return to the regular Atlantic Ocean, Alfred appears overhead in a winged form similar to what Lilly had been in when she appeared to us on the island. He lands on the deck and suggests taking Clarisse, and the fleece, on ahead.
  77.
  78. "It was her quest. Chiron and Dionysus expect her to return with the fleece", Alfred points out. He picks up Clarisse and Lilly, the flies back in the direction of camp. I take over steering the boat. Being the son of the sea god, sailing the ship comes naturally to me.
  79.
  80. Chapter 6: We Get More Than One Surprise
  81. As we approach the shore of Camp Half Blood, a wave crashes onto the deck. Two figures step out of it, one of which is my father, Poseidon. The other is a young cyclops.
  82.
  83. "I see that your quest was a success. I apologize for Polyphemus's actions", Poseidon explains. I remember something that Annabeth told me. Cyclops are the offspring Poseidon had with nymphs.
  84.
  85. "I have a gift for you to make up for all that trouble", Poseidon continues. He motions to the Cyclops, whose name is Tyson. Tyson walks over to me and presents me with a watch. He tells me to press a certain button and the watch transforms into a large shield.
  86.
  87. "Thanks", I tell my dad. As we prepare to dock, Poseidon and Tyson transform into dolphins and dive into the ocean. We disembark from the ship and head back to camp. Clarisse is lying the Golden Fleece on a branch in Thalia's tree. Within seconds, the tree springs back to life and the magical barrier is restored. Everyone heads off to supper, then settles down for the night. Michael, Alfred, and Lilly decide to crash here at Camp Half-Blood tonight. Grover also decides to stay the night and wait until tomorrow to resume his search for Pan. We still don't know which god is Michael's, Alfred's, and Lilly's father is, so they crash with me in Poseidon's cabin (the Hermes cabin is too full). The next morning, I am awoken by someone yelling for me. Grover is standing outside my cabin door. Milo, Camille, and Madeline are rousing Michael, Alfred, and Lilly from their sleep as well. The eight of us rush down to Thalia's tree, where we find Annabeth kneeling beside a dark-haired girl dressed all in black, in a goth-type style.
  88.
  89. "It's Thalia", Annabeth explains, "The fleece was even stronger then we anticipated". Annabeth and I carry Thalia to the big house, where she can receive proper care. Once Thalia is secure, Grover announces he will be leaving to resume his search for Pan. After packing his bags, Grover prepares to leave, but Michael stops him. Alfred, Lilly, Milo, Camille, and Madeline are with Michael.
  90.
  91. "Before you go", Michael explains, "There's something you should know". A glowing symbol appears above his head, with the same symbol then appearing over Alfred's, Lilly's, Milo's, Camille's, and Madeline's heads as well. This is how the gods claim their Demigod children, but this time is different. The symbol is a Satyr.
  92.
  93. "What god's symbol is a....oh, you've got to be kidding", I remark.
  94.
  95. "Afraid not", Michael confirms, "We are the children of Pan".
  96.
  97. Chapter 7: A Werewolf Saves The Day
  98. "Now that our secret is out, we'll just take you to Pan", Michael suggests.
  99.
  100. "Six half-bloods and one Satyr is an awful big group. All six of you don't need to come", Grover points out. The six Pan kids discuss it and decide that three of them will escort Grover to Pan's sanctuary. Alfred, Lilly, and Milo will go with Grover while Michael, Camille, and Madeline stay at Camp Half-Blood. Grover, Alfred, Lilly, and Milo head out later that afternoon. Thalia fully recovers and she and I quickly become friends. The rest of the summer is fairly uneventful. The Pan kids prove to be extremely adept at jungle combat (not to mention hard to beat at capture-the-flag). When I head home to mom's house at the end of the summer, Annabeth, Thalia, Michael, Camille, and Madeline promise to come visit me throughout the year. Even after I leave camp things remain calm. Nothing big happens until close to Christmas. Annabeth and Thalia arrive at my house, and tell me Grover is at a school up in Maine. he was on his way back from meeting Pan when he noticed a monster, a manticore to be precise, sniffing around. Grover followed the manticore all the way to Maine, where he discovered two new half-bloods. He needs us to help him protect these new half-bloods from the manticore. I quickly retrieve Riptide from my bedroom and we rush to Maine. When we reach the town where the school is located, Grover is waiting for us.
  101.
  102. "The new half-bloods' names are Nico and Bianca Di Angelo", Grover explains, "I don't know who their Olympian parent is yet, but they are brother and sister". Annabeth, Thalia, and I enter the school building and quickly locate the Di Angelo siblings, based on descriptions given to us by Grover. We attempt to lead them away from the school, but the manticore leaps down from the roof, where it had been lying in wait. At the same time, another monster emerges from the woods behind the school. This one I recognize from my first quest, when I fought it in St Louis.
  103.
  104. "There's a chimera, too", I point out. We realize the manticore and chimera have us surrounded, meaning they must be working together. Both monsters prepare to attack us together, but as they go to pounce, I hear loud howling from somewhere close by.
  105.
  106. "Great, is there a werewolf too?" I ponder, "I never heard of any werewolf in Greek mythology". Regardless, a humanoid wolf comes bounding towards us. I brace for impact, but the werewolf tackles the manticore instead. The chimera leaps forward, but the Werewolf throws the manticore at it, sending both monsters flying. The manticore and chimera recover, but the werewolf rushes over and just starts beating them black and blue. After giving both monsters a beating, the werewolf leaves both of them unconscious at mine, Annabeth's and Thalia's feet. I stab the chimera with Riptide, disintegrating it. Before I can finish off the Manticore, it recovers and grabs Annabeth. The manticore rolls sideways off the nearby cliff, with Annabeth still in its grasp. When I reach the cliff and look down, both of them have vanished. Before I can recover from the shock of Annabeth being gone, a group of young girls emerged from the woods, all armed with crossbows. Every single one of them notches arrows, aiming at the werewolf. The werewolf reverts to its human form, revealed to be Milo.
  107.
  108. "Easy girls", Milo insists, "I'm not the enemy. I'm Milo, demigod son of Pan". At the mention of the wild god's name, the girls lowered their weapons. One of the younger girls walks up to us.
  109.
  110. "I am Artemis, goddess of the hunt, and these girls are my Hunters", the girl explains, "Long have we Olympians awaited the day Pan would return". Milo blushes, then Artemis plants a kiss on his cheek. She suggests we all head to Camp Half-Blood, the Di Angelo siblings included. I'm worried about Annabeth, but Artemis assures me that Annabeth is still alive and has merely been taken hostage. After we arrive at Camp Half-Blood, the Hunters rest up in the Artemis cabin (which is usually vacant since Artemis never has any Demigod offspring). Artemis tells them to remain at Camp Half-Blood while she goes to Mount Olympus to let the other gods know Pan has returnwed and see if they can track down Annabeth and her abductors. Michael, Alfred, Lilly, Milo, Camille, and Madeline have made a cabin for Pan next to the other cabins, though Milo had rushed off to Maine to help us mid-construction. The other five Pan kids had managed to finish making the cabin without him. Later that night at dinner, Chiron announced a special game of capture-the-flag, in which Campers would face-off with the Hunters of Artemis. All of Camp Half-Blood's campers would gather and choose a team of campers to represent them. In the end, it would be me, the six Pan kids, Clarisse, and Charlie Beckendorf (a Hephaestus camper) playing against the Hunters. I wasn't really interested in playing, as I'm still worried about Annabeth, but the Hunters assured me Artemis would take care of things on that front.
  111.
  112. Chapter 8: The Zoo Comes To Camp Half-Blood
  113. I end up as captain of our team. I station Charlie to guard our flag. The rest of us get ready to rush the enemy. As soon as Chiron blows the horn to signal the start of the game, all six Pan kids seemingly vanish into the forest. Clarisse and I charge through the trees, tangling with several Hunters as we search for their flag. We spot their flag in a clearing, but as we approach it, several Hunters surround us. Then, we hear a ruckus in the trees and turn around to see what amounts to an entire zoo battling the Hunters. There's an elephant, a lion, a tiger, a bear, a boa constrictor, and a crocodile. I realize all six of the Pan kids switched to animal forms. The elephant charges the Hunters that have us surrounded, forcing them to scatter, then grabs the flag with its trunk. Rhe lion, tiger, bear, and crocodile return to their human forms: Michael, Milo, Camille, and Madeline. The four of them brandish celestial bronze boomerangs and toss them at the Hunters. The Hunters duck, causing the boomerangs to merely slice off a few tree branches. I notice that the severed branches grow back almost instantly, meaning the boomerangs possess nature magic. I engage one of the Hunters in a swordfight. Clarisse punches another one. two more hunters chase after the elephant, but the boa slithers in front of them and trips them, then turns into a hippopotamus and charges off after the elephant. Two Hunters take aim at the elephant with their crossbows, but the hippo shifts to a rhinoceros and sends the two of them flying. The elephant shrinks and vanishes, and I notice a monkey is carrying the Hunters' flag now. The monkey swings up into the trees, dodging a few arrows in the process. The rhino turns into a bird-of-paradise and picks me up as it flies back toward our flag. We land near Beckendorf and the bird-of-paradise reverts to its human form, which is Alfred. The monkey lands near our flag, moments later and turns back to human form. Lilly has the Hunters' flag and our team has won.
  114.
  115. "A job well done, team", I yell, congratulating everyone. Thalia, who had decided not to take part in the capture-the-flag game, runs up to us.
  116.
  117. "We've got big trouble", She announces, "I just received an Iris Message from my dad. Artemis hasn't made it back to Mount Olympus. Dad is worried something may have happened to her". The Hunters quickly pack of their things and prepare to head out. Thalia and I decide to visit Mount Olympus and see what Zeus thinks might have happened to Artemis. The Hunters decide to join us. Grover starts to come with us as well, but he is stopped by a shimmering rainbow of light. It is an Iris Message from Pan. The wild god senses something powerful and evil in San Francisco. Grover decides to take the six Pan kids and head to San Francisco to check it out.
  118.
  119. Chapter 9: All Roads Lead To California
  120. Thalia and I arrive at the Empire State Building and take the elevator up to the 600th floor, where Mount Olympus awaits. a Hunter named Zoe Nightshade rides with us. The remaining Hunters wait in the lobby. When we enter the main palace at the top of Mount Olympus, we find only four Olympians there: Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, and Apollo.
  121.
  122. "The others are out searching for Artemis", Zeus explains.
  123.
  124. "I suspect you will find Annabeth where ever Artemis is", Poseidon adds, "She and Artemis were likely captured by the same individual". Hera hands Thalia and I each a device that looks like a celestial bronze walkie-talkie.
  125.
  126. "Hephaestus left these for you. If you do find Artemis, turn these on. if one is on, every Olympian within a 100-mile radius will hear what's happening where you are. if both are turned on, you will be heard by us on Olympus and by Hades as well", Hera explains. Apollo approaches us next, shrinking down to the size of a regular human.
  127.
  128. "Mind if I tag along with you? Artemis is my sister after all, and I can provide transportation via my sun chariot", Apollo inquires. We know better than to turn a god down, so we tell Apollo of course he can come. As we leave the palace, Apollo holds out his hand and a bright, red sports car labeled "sunmobile" zooms up to us. Apollo climbs into the drivers' seat, I ride shotgun, and everyone else climbs in the back. Apollo has to morph the sports car into a small bus for everyone to fit. As we are flying California in the bus, I watch the ground below for Grover and the Pan kids, but there's no sign of them. When we arrive in San Francisco, a dark-haired woman on the ground flags us down. Apollo lands the bus near her.
  129.
  130. "Fancy meeting you here, Athena", Apollo teases.
  131.
  132. "Artemis is being held prisoner up on Mount Tamalpas", Athena explains, "along with my daughter, Annabeth". A man in a Sopwith Camel plane flies down from said mountain and lands his plane just up the road from us. Athena introduces him as Annabeth's mortal parent, her father. Apollo converts the sun bus into a Sopwith Camel (impressed with the one Annabeth's father was flying), and we all fly up the mountain to rescue Artemis and Annabeth.
  133.
  134. Chapter 10: An Old Enemy Becomes My Unlikely Ally
  135. At the top of the mountain, we find Ares fighting with a big, burly guy whom Athena identifies as Atlas, the titan who holds up the sky. Artemis is holding up the sky in Atlas's place and Annabeth is lying on the ground nearby. Thalia and I turn on our walkie-talkies so the other Olympians can hear what's going on. A thunderstorm quickly forms overhead, so we know Zeus is listening in. A cruise ship named Princess Andromeda is docked at the foot of the mountain. I notice several monsters on board the ship. I start to jump into the water to confront them, when a huge tidal wave rises up and slams the ship. When it recedes, dad is standing on the deck.
  136.
  137. "Help Ares", Poseidon yells, "I can handle these guys". He begins stabbing the monsters with his trident. I uncap Riptide and slash at Atlas.
  138.
  139. "Stay out of my way", Ares yells.
  140.
  141. "Dad told me to help you", I explain. I continue slashing Atlas with Riptide. Ares morphs his sword into a bazooka. I barely have time to get out of the way before he blasts Atlas. The titan is blown backwards to where Artemis is holding up the sky. She jumps out of the way, letting the sky fall onto Atlas's shoulders, trapping him under it once again. While Ares catches his breath, I glace over at the Princess Andromeda. The ship is sinking and dad is zooming away from it on the back of a megalodon (a huge shark). He turns around and winks at me before disappearing underwater. Ares transforms his sword into a fighter jet and climbs into it along with Athena, Artemis, and Apollo.
  142.
  143. "We will head back to Olympus so we can tell Zeus about Atlas", Ares explains. Thalia and I hand the walkie-talkies to Athena, so she can make sure they get back to Hephaestus. After the gods leave, the Hunters climb into the sun plane and fly off, saying they'll return the vehicle to Apollo. Annabeth, Thalia, and I decide to head down to Pan's place and meet up with Grover so he can see that Annabeth is all right.
  144.
  145. Chapter 11: Things Get Gnarly In Tucson
  146. Annabeth's dad gives us a ride in his plane, dropping us off in Tucson, Arizona (Grover had previously told me that the entrance to Pan's sanctuary is located on the outskirts of Tucson). After he flies away, we begin exploring Tucson, looking for any sign of the wild god.
  147.
  148. "Look up there", Annabeth announces, point at a nearby billboard. The billboard is advertising a championship boxing match. One of the fighters involved in the match is Michael. We make our way to the boxing arena, and find Michael preparing to fight. Grover and the other five Pan kids are in the audience. Grover pays for tickets for the three of us and we take seats in the same row as Grover and the others. Michael's opponent is a young man named Alito. As Michael and Alito trade blows, it becomes apparent to me that Alito fights something fierce. After about 15 rounds of combat, Michael manages to knock Alito out and win the match. Annabeth, Grover, Thalia, the other Pan kids, and I rush down to the ring to congratulate him. Later, as the ten of us leave the arena, Alito approaches us. He has a tall, muscular man and a red-haired girl with him. Both Alito and the other man are wearing green and white shirts and blue jeans. The girl is wearing a yellow sundress.
  149.
  150. "I'm surprised you beat me", Alito remarks, "I am Alito, Demigod son of Ares".
  151.
  152. "I am Girag, Demigod son of Hephaestus", the tall man adds.
  153.
  154. "I am Rachel, Demigod daughter of Apollo", the girl adds, "The three of us have been traveling together, fighting off monsters".
  155.
  156. "Did someone say...monsters?", A familiar voice taunts. I turn around to see our old foe the manticore crawling down the side of a building. I here a loud screeching sound, and see about a dozen harpies fly up and land beside the manticore. The monsters charge at us together, and we charge at them back. The Pan kids morph into animal forms and attack the harpies. Annabeth, Thalia, and I attack the manticore. Alito, Girag, and Rachel ride into battle on the backs of the Pan kids in their animal forms. Alito's boxing gloves have now transformed into celestial bronze, and Girag is swinging the biggest hammer I've ever seen. Some of the harpies attempt to fly at the two of them, but Rachel keeps predicting their every move and telling the boys when to dodge (her father's the god of prophecy, after all). We manage to corner the manticore, but then another old foe, Luke Castellan, appears and drags me away from it. Luke was the one who stole Zeus's lightning bolt a year and a half ago, but he's been brainwashed by Kronos. Kronos is using Luke, and several others, to try and make a comeback.
  157.
  158. "I hear the lost god Pan has returned, and he's around here somewhere", Luke teases, "Perhaps that old goat will make a useful ally for Kronos". A boomerang flies towards Luke, be he ducks and it misses him. Michael is standing nearby, back in his human form.
  159.
  160. "Leave my father out of this", Michael yells. He and I engage Luke in battle, Michael wielding his boomerang like a sword. When its clear we have him overpowered, Luke turns around to run away, and finds himself face-to-face with Alito, who proceeds to KO Luke with a single punch. Before Alito can celebrate, a harpy grabs him. Thalia smacks the Harpie with her electrified spear. The creature disintegrates, dropping Alito, who lands hard on the ground. The Manticore attempts to attack Alito, but Girag jumps on its back and banishes its head in with his hammer. At the same time, the manticore whips its tail forward, impaling Girag. The monster disintegrates, leaving nothing but the part of its tail stuck in Girag's back. The other children of Pan, back in their human forms, rush up to Girag along with the rest of us.
  161.
  162. "All of the harpies are destroyed", Alfred confirms. Rachel leans over Girag and begins singing a joyous song. The piece of manticore tail dislodges from him and falls away, and then the wound heals completely.
  163.
  164. "My dad is the god of music and medicine", Rachel reminds us. Then, I notice an elderly Satyr approaching us. Grover introduces the Satyr as Pan.
  165.
  166. "Given the what just happened here, I suggest we high-tail it to Camp Half-Blood" Pan suggests. He lifts the unconscious Luke onto his back. Pan touches a nearby tree with his horns, and the tree begins to glow.
  167.
  168. "Step into this tree and you'll be teleported to Camp Half-Blood and emerge from a tree there", Pan explains. One by one, we all walk into the tree and find ourselves emerging from Thalia's tree, on the edge of Camp Half-Blood.
  169.
  170. Chapter 12: We Party The Night Away
  171. Chiron and Dionysus take one look at Luke, and tell us to take him to Mount Olympus, so the gods can deal with him. Pan whispers something to Michael, and Michael produces a harmonica from his pocket. Michael walks back to Thalia's tree, where Pan's portal is still open, and plays a few notes on his harmonica. The portal shimmers as Michael plays.
  172.
  173. "This harmonica was a gift from dad", Michael explains, "I can use its music to change the end destination of dad's tree portals. If you step back through the portal now, you'll emerge from a tree on Mount Olympus". One by one, we all travel through the tree (Dionysus insists on going first), and arrive on Mount Olympus. Once there, we hurry up to the gods' palace. All of the gods and goddesses are present this time. Pan deposits the unconscious Luke in the center of the circle of thrones. A jolt from Zeus startles Luke awake.
  174.
  175. "I know you were the one who stole my Master Lightning Bolt", Zeus yells, "But I also know you were under the control of someone else, my father Kronos". Luke starts ranting about how he hates all of the gods because they don't care about their own demigod children. Hermes gets up from his throne and shrinks down to standard human size to confront his wayward son.
  176.
  177. "I apologize for that, my son", Hermes begins, "That's still no reason revive the lord of titans and usher in an apocalypse".
  178.
  179. "On the contrary, its the perfect reason", Luke insists. he tries to lunge at Hermes, but is stopped when my dad drops a fisherman's net on him.
  180.
  181. "I suggest we lock this boy in a prison cell here on Mount Olympus", Poseidon muses, "That way if Kronos tries to contact him again, we will know about it". Zeus agrees with him and asks Hephaestus to build the cell. Hephaestus waves his hammer and an eleborate prison cell is conjured around Luke, replacing the net. Hermes offers to look after his son and shrinks the cage down a bit so it'll fit in his mailbag. Before Hermes takes the cage, Annabeth and Thalia walk up to him.
  182.
  183. "Mind if we have a word with Luke before you lock him away", the girls asks. They walk up to the cage, which is now small enough to fit in the palm of Annabeth's hand. From Luke's perspective, Annabeth and Thalia are as big to him as the gods on their thrones are to them. Thalia is afraid to touch the cage for fear of getting angry and electrocuting Luke, so Annabeth does all the talking.
  184.
  185. "Whatever Kronos has told you, don't trust him", Annabeth insists, "He's feeding you nothing but lies". Athena nods her head, agreeing with her daughter. Luke says nothing in response. Annabeth hands the cage to Hermes, who places it in his mail bag and returns to his throne. Zeus then turns his attention to Pan.
  186.
  187. "We have another momentous occasion to announce", Zeus declares, "Pan, god of the wild, has returned". Pan walks up to Zeus and bows his head. Then, he motions to his six kids and introduces them one by one. Zeus then states that Pan's return garners a celebration, and the throne room and palace erupt into what has to be the largest party ever thrown. The muses conjure up a DJ's booth and play music that sounds like whatever the listener wants to hear (Michael remarks that he hears KISS music playing, and tells me that all four members of said band are children of Apollo). A huge feast banquet containing just about every food item imaginable lines the far wall. Alito is boxing with his father, Ares, while Clarisse cheers for both of them at the same time. Ares has taken on a form that makes him resemble Mohammad Ali (who was also a demigod son of his). Girag and Hephaestus are busy building something together, though I cant hear their hammers pounding over the music. Annabeth walks over to me and I soon find myself dancing with her. Then, I notice our respective Olympian parents, Poseidon and Athena, are dancing together as well. Annabeth and I can't help laughing a bit. Apollo interrupts the muses after a bit and announces that he and his demigod daughter Rachel will now sing some songs for everyone. He transforms the DJ's booth into a stage/catwalk combo. Pan and his children offer to be their backup band. I notice each of the 6 Pan kids has a harmonica now. Pan has a pan flute. The 7 of them begin playing as Apollo and Rachel treat us to a variety of songs both classic and newer. Other Apollo campers join in the songs one by one, as Mount Olympus rocks on into the night.
