  1. >The alarm on your phone starts to play and you are woken up from your slumber.
  2. >Reaching over to your nightstand, you swipe the screen and the music stops.
  3. >For the most part, your phone has been reduced to an alarm clock and camera since you returned.
  4. >At least it isn’t completely useless.
  5. >The clock says ‘4:00 AM.’
  6. >Rolling out of bed, you walk to your dresser and start to pick out clothes for the day.
  7. >Since there isn’t anything formal planned for today, you settle on a more casual attire.
  8. >Just jeans, an undershirt, and a kinda fancy button up short sleeve shirt.
  9. >Still want to look a little nice today.
  10. >Once dressed, you quietly walk out of your room and down the hallway.
  11. >You take extra care to be silent as you pass near your mother’s room.
  12. >She normally gets up early, but thankfully not this early.
  13. >Which gives you a little over an hour to finish your plan.
  14. >You continue on your way until you reach your destination.
  15. >The Royal Kitchen.
  16. >You open the door and see one of the night shift chefs turn to look at you.
  17. >Once the unicorn sees it’s you he bows slightly.
  18. >”Your highness, what brings you here? Would you like me to fix you something to eat?”
  19. >That was one of the things nice about being royalty.
  20. >You had an on call staff of cooks that would make you whatever you wanted whenever you asked for it.
  21. “No thank you Fancy Feast.”
  22. >You still need to force yourself not to laugh at his name.
  23. >”Then… is there something I can do for you Prince Anonymous?”
  24. “Well, if you really want, you can help me prep.”
  25. >You say as you walk over to a cabinet and start rummaging through it.
  26. >”Prep? As in, you are going to make something?”
  27. >You bring out three large bowls and turn to look at him.
  28. “Yeah, I was thinking about making some breakfast. But I’m still not a hundred percent about wher you keep things here, so I’d appreciate the help.”
  29. >He trots up to your side and looks at the bowls and then to you.
  30. >”What do you need?”
  31. “A big griddle, eggs, flour, milk, bread, butter… oh, and some oranges and a juicer.”
  32. >He nods and moves to another part of the kitchen while you set the bowls down on one of the tables.
  33. >You turn to see him walking back towards you with everything you requested held in his magic.
  34. >It’s times like this that you’re really envious of unicorns.
  35. >He carefully places the items on the table.
  36. >”And you’re sure you don’t want me to make you something?”
  37. >He almost pleads.
  38. “No thanks, this is something I need to do myself.”
  39. >He probably thinks you don’t know what you’re doing or will possibly destroy the kitchen.
  40. >Not that you can blame him actually.
  41. >Here he is, a probably classically trained chef watching you, a presumably spoiled rich kid walk into his kitchen and try and make things yourself.
  42. >Or maybe he just doesn’t know how well hands can work when making food.
  43. >You crack an egg and drop it into one of the bowls.
  44. >Growing up the way you did, you had to learn how to do things for yourself.
  45. >That included cooking.
  46. >You were no five star chef, but you liked to think your food was good.
  47. >You continue to add ingredients, mix, and occasionally pour what you made onto the frying pan Fancy Feast provided.
  48. >His uneasiness with you cooking started to disappear as he watched you work.
  49. >You eventually have a very large and ample breakfast selection available.
  50. >Smiling, you wipe your forehead with the back of your hand.
  51. >This is going to be great.
  52. >Now for the juice.
  53. >You turn and see Fancy slicing the last of the oranges in half.
  54. >You walk over and pick up one of the orange pieces.
  55. “Didn’t want me to cut myself or something?”
  56. >You say as you start to juice it.
  57. >”Partially, but also because you looked so preoccupied with what you were doing. I thought you could use the assistance.”
  58. “Well I did. Thanks.”
  59. >You tell him and finish with the oranges.
  60. >With juice in hand, you begin to put everything you just made onto a large serving tray.
  61. >You pull your phone from your pocket and see it is a little after five in the morning.
  62. >Alright, you’re almost done.
  63. >Just waiting for-
  64. >A knock at the door gets your attention.
  65. >It opens slightly an older earth pony sticks her head inside.
  66. >”H-hello? Prince Anonymous?”
  67. “Evergreen.”
  68. >You smile and walk to her.
  69. “There’s my favorite grounds keeper. So, were you able to find them?”
  70. >You ask crouching down to her level.
  71. >She smiles before moving her head back to one of her saddle bags.
  72. >She pulls out a bushel of flowers and hands them to you.
  73. >… Or, mouths them to you actually.
  74. >Probably best not to think about it too much.
  75. >”As requested your highness, one dozen each of the most beautiful yellow and peach roses.”
  76. “Perfect, thanks so much! Now I just need something to put them in.”
  77. >You start scanning the kitchen for a vase.
  78. >People keep those things in kitchens all the time right?
  79. >”Oh, I already took the liberty your highness.”
  80. >She says while reaching into her other saddle bag and brings out a crystal vase.
  81. “Thank you so so much Evergreen.”
  82. >You say while hugging her.
  83. “Hey, you haven’t eaten yet have you?”
  84. >She shakes her head no.
  85. “Well then you are in for a treat. Hey, Fancy Feast.”
  86. >You call out to your chef.
  87. >”Yes your majesty?”
  88. “This is Evergreen, please make her anything she would like to eat.”
  89. >He nods in affirmation.
  90. >You fill the vase with water and put the flowers into it.
  91. >Yellow in the center with the orange ones on the outside.
  92. >You try your best to fashion them into a replica of your mother’s cutie mark.
  93. >Satisfied, you gather the food and walk out the kitchen.
  94. “I’ll see you two later on then.”
  95. >You tell them as you exit.
  96. >You’re cutting it close but you should still have time.
  97. >You are walking down the hallway as fast as possible with the tray without spilling anything, trying to get to your mother’s chambers.
  98. >You are almost there, just a little farther.
  99. >You then see a guard walking towards the door to your mother’s room.
  100. >Ah Crap.
  101. >That must be her wake up call.
  102. >Is he early or are you late?
  103. >”Wait, wait, wait, wait!”
  104. >You whisper yell at him.
  105. >Luckily he hears you and stops right before he knocks on the door.
  106. >”Prince Anonymous, shall I announce you?”
  107. “No, no, no, this is supposed to be a surprise. Let me handle waking her up.”
  108. >”Alright, if you say so sir.”
  109. >He turns and walks back the way he came.
  110. >That was a close one.
  111. >Balancing the tray, you manage to knock on the door.
  112. “Princess Celestia?”
  113. >”…Yes?”
  114. “This is your morning wake up call, as requested.”
  115. >”… Anon? Is that you?”
  116. “Yes.”
  117. >”What are you doing up so early?”
  118. “This might be easier to explain if you let me in.”
  119. >The handle glows golden and turns, then the door is engulfed in magic and opens.
  120. >You walk inside with the tray of food and place it on the bed next to her.
  121. >”Anonymous? Sunshine, what is all this?”
  122. >She asks surprised.
  123. “Oh not much, just a little something I whipped together for you.”
  124. >”You made all this?”
  125. “Yup. Now, you have your choice of pancakes, French toast, regular toast, eggs, sunny side up of course, and a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice. I hope you like it mom.”
  126. >She is examining the bounty before her, as well as the flowers you arranged for her and looks back to you.
  127. >”Oh sweetheart, this must have taken you a long time to make. You didn’t need to do all this for me.”
  128. “Don’t worry about it. And after all you’ve done for me, it is the least I can do. Besides, can’t have you raising the sun on an empty stomach now can we?”
  129. >She smiles and kisses your cheek.
  130. >”Thank you my little ray of sunshine. But I think I would prefer to raise the sun a little early today and then enjoy a nice meal with my son. How does that sound?”
  131. “That sound great actually.”
  132. >She gets up from her bed and goes to the balcony in her room.
  133. >You follow next to her and stop at the railing.
  134. >You watch as closes her eyes and concentrates.
  135. >Her horn glows and ever so slowly, the sun starts to become seen over the horizon.
  136. >The colors paint the sky as it gets higher and higher.
  137. “No matter how many times I see that, I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of it.”
  138. >She smiles and leans into you.
  139. >You wrap an arm around her neck and hug her close.
  140. “Happy Mother’s Day mom. I love you.”
  141. >”Thank you my sunshine, I love you too.”
  142. >You both just stay there, admiring her work and enjoying being next to one another.
  143. >“Now, how about breakfast? It seems I have far too much for one pony. Would you like to share mine?”
  144. >You chuckle.
  145. “Sure mom, that sounds great.”
  146. >You both return to her bed and start to eat together.
  147. >Even though the day just started, you already know.
  148. >Today was a good day.
