- >The alarm on your phone starts to play and you are woken up from your slumber.
- >Reaching over to your nightstand, you swipe the screen and the music stops.
- >For the most part, your phone has been reduced to an alarm clock and camera since you returned.
- >At least it isn’t completely useless.
- >The clock says ‘4:00 AM.’
- >Rolling out of bed, you walk to your dresser and start to pick out clothes for the day.
- >Since there isn’t anything formal planned for today, you settle on a more casual attire.
- >Just jeans, an undershirt, and a kinda fancy button up short sleeve shirt.
- >Still want to look a little nice today.
- >Once dressed, you quietly walk out of your room and down the hallway.
- >You take extra care to be silent as you pass near your mother’s room.
- >She normally gets up early, but thankfully not this early.
- >Which gives you a little over an hour to finish your plan.
- >You continue on your way until you reach your destination.
- >The Royal Kitchen.
- >You open the door and see one of the night shift chefs turn to look at you.
- >Once the unicorn sees it’s you he bows slightly.
- >”Your highness, what brings you here? Would you like me to fix you something to eat?”
- >That was one of the things nice about being royalty.
- >You had an on call staff of cooks that would make you whatever you wanted whenever you asked for it.
- “No thank you Fancy Feast.”
- >You still need to force yourself not to laugh at his name.
- >”Then… is there something I can do for you Prince Anonymous?”
- “Well, if you really want, you can help me prep.”
- >You say as you walk over to a cabinet and start rummaging through it.
- >”Prep? As in, you are going to make something?”
- >You bring out three large bowls and turn to look at him.
- “Yeah, I was thinking about making some breakfast. But I’m still not a hundred percent about wher you keep things here, so I’d appreciate the help.”
- >He trots up to your side and looks at the bowls and then to you.
- >”What do you need?”
- “A big griddle, eggs, flour, milk, bread, butter… oh, and some oranges and a juicer.”
- >He nods and moves to another part of the kitchen while you set the bowls down on one of the tables.
- >You turn to see him walking back towards you with everything you requested held in his magic.
- >It’s times like this that you’re really envious of unicorns.
- >He carefully places the items on the table.
- >”And you’re sure you don’t want me to make you something?”
- >He almost pleads.
- “No thanks, this is something I need to do myself.”
- >He probably thinks you don’t know what you’re doing or will possibly destroy the kitchen.
- >Not that you can blame him actually.
- >Here he is, a probably classically trained chef watching you, a presumably spoiled rich kid walk into his kitchen and try and make things yourself.
- >Or maybe he just doesn’t know how well hands can work when making food.
- >You crack an egg and drop it into one of the bowls.
- >Growing up the way you did, you had to learn how to do things for yourself.
- >That included cooking.
- >You were no five star chef, but you liked to think your food was good.
- >You continue to add ingredients, mix, and occasionally pour what you made onto the frying pan Fancy Feast provided.
- >His uneasiness with you cooking started to disappear as he watched you work.
- >You eventually have a very large and ample breakfast selection available.
- >Smiling, you wipe your forehead with the back of your hand.
- >This is going to be great.
- >Now for the juice.
- >You turn and see Fancy slicing the last of the oranges in half.
- >You walk over and pick up one of the orange pieces.
- “Didn’t want me to cut myself or something?”
- >You say as you start to juice it.
- >”Partially, but also because you looked so preoccupied with what you were doing. I thought you could use the assistance.”
- “Well I did. Thanks.”
- >You tell him and finish with the oranges.
- >With juice in hand, you begin to put everything you just made onto a large serving tray.
- >You pull your phone from your pocket and see it is a little after five in the morning.
- >Alright, you’re almost done.
- >Just waiting for-
- >A knock at the door gets your attention.
- >It opens slightly an older earth pony sticks her head inside.
- >”H-hello? Prince Anonymous?”
- “Evergreen.”
- >You smile and walk to her.
- “There’s my favorite grounds keeper. So, were you able to find them?”
- >You ask crouching down to her level.
- >She smiles before moving her head back to one of her saddle bags.
- >She pulls out a bushel of flowers and hands them to you.
- >… Or, mouths them to you actually.
- >Probably best not to think about it too much.
- >”As requested your highness, one dozen each of the most beautiful yellow and peach roses.”
- “Perfect, thanks so much! Now I just need something to put them in.”
- >You start scanning the kitchen for a vase.
- >People keep those things in kitchens all the time right?
- >”Oh, I already took the liberty your highness.”
- >She says while reaching into her other saddle bag and brings out a crystal vase.
- “Thank you so so much Evergreen.”
- >You say while hugging her.
- “Hey, you haven’t eaten yet have you?”
- >She shakes her head no.
- “Well then you are in for a treat. Hey, Fancy Feast.”
- >You call out to your chef.
- >”Yes your majesty?”
- “This is Evergreen, please make her anything she would like to eat.”
- >He nods in affirmation.
- >You fill the vase with water and put the flowers into it.
- >Yellow in the center with the orange ones on the outside.
- >You try your best to fashion them into a replica of your mother’s cutie mark.
- >Satisfied, you gather the food and walk out the kitchen.
- “I’ll see you two later on then.”
- >You tell them as you exit.
- >You’re cutting it close but you should still have time.
- >You are walking down the hallway as fast as possible with the tray without spilling anything, trying to get to your mother’s chambers.
- >You are almost there, just a little farther.
- >You then see a guard walking towards the door to your mother’s room.
- >Ah Crap.
- >That must be her wake up call.
- >Is he early or are you late?
- >”Wait, wait, wait, wait!”
- >You whisper yell at him.
- >Luckily he hears you and stops right before he knocks on the door.
- >”Prince Anonymous, shall I announce you?”
- “No, no, no, this is supposed to be a surprise. Let me handle waking her up.”
- >”Alright, if you say so sir.”
- >He turns and walks back the way he came.
- >That was a close one.
- >Balancing the tray, you manage to knock on the door.
- “Princess Celestia?”
- >”…Yes?”
- “This is your morning wake up call, as requested.”
- >”… Anon? Is that you?”
- “Yes.”
- >”What are you doing up so early?”
- “This might be easier to explain if you let me in.”
- >The handle glows golden and turns, then the door is engulfed in magic and opens.
- >You walk inside with the tray of food and place it on the bed next to her.
- >”Anonymous? Sunshine, what is all this?”
- >She asks surprised.
- “Oh not much, just a little something I whipped together for you.”
- >”You made all this?”
- “Yup. Now, you have your choice of pancakes, French toast, regular toast, eggs, sunny side up of course, and a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice. I hope you like it mom.”
- >She is examining the bounty before her, as well as the flowers you arranged for her and looks back to you.
- >”Oh sweetheart, this must have taken you a long time to make. You didn’t need to do all this for me.”
- “Don’t worry about it. And after all you’ve done for me, it is the least I can do. Besides, can’t have you raising the sun on an empty stomach now can we?”
- >She smiles and kisses your cheek.
- >”Thank you my little ray of sunshine. But I think I would prefer to raise the sun a little early today and then enjoy a nice meal with my son. How does that sound?”
- “That sound great actually.”
- >She gets up from her bed and goes to the balcony in her room.
- >You follow next to her and stop at the railing.
- >You watch as closes her eyes and concentrates.
- >Her horn glows and ever so slowly, the sun starts to become seen over the horizon.
- >The colors paint the sky as it gets higher and higher.
- “No matter how many times I see that, I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of it.”
- >She smiles and leans into you.
- >You wrap an arm around her neck and hug her close.
- “Happy Mother’s Day mom. I love you.”
- >”Thank you my sunshine, I love you too.”
- >You both just stay there, admiring her work and enjoying being next to one another.
- >“Now, how about breakfast? It seems I have far too much for one pony. Would you like to share mine?”
- >You chuckle.
- “Sure mom, that sounds great.”
- >You both return to her bed and start to eat together.
- >Even though the day just started, you already know.
- >Today was a good day.
