- Collected Percy Jackson miscellany
- Greek Gods:
- Dionysus: I’d say you'd get a decent grab bag of useful utility stuff including immunity to the negative effects of drugs and alcohol (no hangovers, kidney failure, addictions or other side effects), a sense of where the nearest party is, insight into madness (you can tell how a person is insane upon seeing them), and some general minor luck with chaotic circumstances. More combat applicable stuff includes inducing madness (takes some effort and you can't choose how they break), berserking (optional), messing around with the growth of plants that are used to make alcohol. and the previously mentioned luck with chaotic circumstances (a duel would be somewhat bad for you but you are near untouchable in a free for all).
- In addition to that you can slap on some other thematic stuff if you want (you probably can talk to dolphins) and general empowerment from intoxication (especially if you took Glory to Me or chose to take Fate Finds you Interesting for no points). Yes you can probably pull a Snowflame if you want.
- Also keep in mind that's my suggested baseline and you're free to play around with it if you want to emphasize some aspects of Dionysus at the cost of others or make your own appropriately thematic power set.
- Arthurian Parents:
- Arthur would likely get you quite nice insight into rulership and management, aura of nobility, decent combat skills beyond demigod standard, fate somewhat caring about you in addition to finding you interesting and probably a good deal of shenanigans with Arcadia and lakes off the top of my head. Merlin on the other hand would get you an aptitude for innate magic (with an extra boost if you purchase the formalized stuff), time fuckery effectively making you a miniature oracle, aura of wisdom, and probably some of the generic knowledge god stuff. Do note that they both count as major deities for their pantheons and will have you living in interesting times for your stay.
- If you want flat out combat ability I recommend Mordred (who most likely fills a similar role to Set, the guy who you know is going to betray but is somewhat loyal and too damn useful to get rid of) for standard combat or Lancelot for mounted. They will get you treated with a great deal more suspicion than most other possible parents.
- Or if none of those match your fancy and you want a big name for your parent there's always the Lady of the Lake who would likely end up as a weird mix of fate, rulership and crafting. Or you can punt on over to the Tuatha but I'm a great deal less familiar with them.
- General:
- On most Messenger gods or similar: Really fast movement wise but only kinda fast for most other actions, also probably some form of esoteric near instant travel along roads since he was a god of travelers. Generally I try to include some form of fast travel as an option for Glory to Me, Hermes just happens to get unusually great stuff in that vein. Also generally great business sense and some ability to perceive and deal with ghosts.
- Materials for other Pantheons: Feel free to fanwank divine materials for the other pantheon. Wood from Yggdrasil probably would work, as would various ores from the other 9 realms. Alfheim for instance probably has some form of ore that causes spiritual damage but not physical, causing paralysis in those struck.
- Pantheon Imports
- The thing is for pantheon imports the criteria are more "do they make halfway decent sense as gods" and "do they have organizations of underlings" the [Emotional] Entities [from DC comics] are fairly simple to mistake for gods of their emotions so they pass that test with flying colors and the corps get us a halfway decent idea of what the worshippers would look like.
- What comes with an imported pantheon: Mostly it's intended as some deities and any major enemies they had. So long as you get a decent spread you're good. Monsters normally come along, heroes tend to have existed in the past and landmasses might get moved around slightly to work right but nothing major.
- Generally if they fit reasonably well you can do it so long as you aren't pulling Omnipotence/Monotheistic silliness. Generally part of the reason I went with the base pantheons I did was to establish some examples of extremes that could work. Meanwhile I'd say trying to go with say the Elder gods from Lovecraft would be bloody stupid and frankly just plain wouldn't work well from my perspective. Effectively If you think it could fit you're free to do it.
- Titans:
- Oceanus would probably get you a powerset themed after the unknowable depths of the ocean than Poseiden's more sea focused one (mostly seeing through darkness and some stealth stuff, more raw power than finesse in the hydrokinesis and no horses, storms, or earthquakes, maybe some mutation or summoning if you're his direct child).
- Chronos
- The time this came up elsewhere the general conclusion was that for demigod abilities you'd get time fuckery (mostly slowing or accelerating it within areas of your choosing, maybe some combat precog and changing items to previous or future states), an aura of leadership (especially potent on monsters), and plant manipulation. Glory to Me would make it much easier to do sustained time fields, the ability to view the "timeline" of an object (all past states alongside some possible future states), some moving from plant to plant, ability to speak with and command snakes, the aura of leadership also discouraging wrongdoing in those nearby, and the ability to swallow things to hold them in stasis (especially easy to use on babies).
- Feel free to play around with which of the powers you want to focus on. That set came from a conversation elsewhere, you could easily do the psychometry as a basic power moving on to moving objects to past or future states with Glory to Me for example. As for setting shenanigans quite a good deal, you'd be heavily distrusted by demigods but be a rallying point for those aligned with the Titans.
- As for the timefuckery with children of Chronos while you'd likely be able to tell when something was going on you wouldn't necessarily be able to counter it (Using Jojo for examples while you could likely easily figure out what was going on with King Crimson or the World you wouldn't be able to counter it directly, Made in Heaven you could counter in your immediate location).
- How taking Chronos as a father and how it interacts with the plot
- Chronos' rise starts around the start time if you go with the time Percy arrived in camp. Generally you'll have had a better childhood than most demigods because the various monsters are far more likely to treat you well as opposed to the standard careful watching or assassination attempts they do for most demigods. You'll be a rallying point when you come of age assuming you side with your father. If you go to Camp Half Blood you'll likely be treated with suspicion if you demonstrate your time powers although they'll still likely train you. There's one particular guy there who announces his loyalty to the Titans a couple months in and he's likely to offer to take him with you if he knows of your heritage. From there you've got the choice of going with him to join up with the forces arrayed against Olympus or to kill him, depriving Chronos of his future vessel (and earning yourself points with the campers). After that Chronos originally spent a few years getting his forces together but you can likely accelerate that process. The other major thing is that you probably shouldn't kill Percy because that will mess up the Prophecy of the final battle between the Olympians and the Titans, although killing or imprisoning Artemis will speed it up 2 years. As for how the hell your mother had Chronos's child while he was in pieces in Tartarus I leave for you to decide.
- Importing 40K:
- Yes, although you'd also get Chaos, Mork and Gork, and the C'tan along for the ride at least. Don't worry they're brought down to appropriate levels on the plus side they wouldn't get along with eachother, on the downside that's three completely separate Titan factions.
- The Emperor
- He'd still be a god, just one that insists on them being followers instead of worshippers most likely, sadly he'd likely be on the Golden Throne at that point so his opinion doesn't matter quite as much anymore. Also would probably help that there would be actually semi-decent gods around instead of all of them being dicks.
