  8. The villains meanwhile had parted ways-now talking through the communications. Shade waited on the first floor-first with eagerness, waiting for the heroes she had just boasted of beating. Then slowly with concern as they didn't appear. Now frustration again, as she tapped the hearing device linking her to Mist. "I thought you said you'd tell me the moment they walked in."
  9.
  10. Mist responded, giving a soft and audible yawn before speaking. "I did. Nothings moved. The door opened, I can sense just outside the door, and nothing is moving through any mist at all." Shade frowned, still stalking the first floor, scanning in case somehow she'd find how they were evading her partners. "What if they're moving slowly? Or crawling on the ceiling?"
  11.
  12. Mist responded, now sounding amused instead of merely bored. "Then I'd feel them moving really slowly. Or on the ceiling. They can't move without-" Suddenly the communication cut, and Shade stopped stock still, alert and on edge as Mist continued, his deadpan tone still without alarm. "Huh. Thats weird. Well, okay, found them."
  13.
  14. Shade perked, and started to move into a sprint. "Finally. Where?" Mists answer was not reassuring. "Fourth floor, not far from me." Shade froze, before she moved in a sprint, suddenly furious. "What?! How did they get up there already?"
  15.
  16. "I dunno."
  17.
  18. "I mean did they teleport? Just skip all the distance between?!"
  19.
  20. "I dunno."
  21.
  22. "Can they just evade your mist somehow? Like turn into it themselves?!"
  23.
  24. "I dunno."
  25.
  26. "Then maybe did they-"
  27.
  28. "Shade." The deadpan hero interrupted her next question, amusement creeping back into his tone. "I think you are failing to grasp the sheer enormity of how much I don't know. I see them now though."
  29.
  30. Okay. If they could just /bypass/ several floors, there was no way to know if they couldn't bypass more. And even if that was some sort of one way thing, she'd been down here to harass and he'd been up there to be support /because/ he couldn't take them both at the same time. "I'm on my way to the bomb." SHe responded, already moving to make sure to get /some/ defense in place.

  33.
  34. A shattering of glass, and both heroines dropped into the building, the flouncing pink Princess Kumo leading the way while Stray waved her hand back and forth, trying to part the haze. "Awww, pretty! This mist is super cool!" It at the moment just came up to their waist, and Princess Kumo twirled in it, moving like a ballerina as the mist spun up and whirled about her, a playful partner to the heroine.
  35.
  36. Stray meanwhile gave a hiss, glaring. Already her form had shifted-fingers having grown another two inches, the rat claws oversized on her frame, her skin pink and wrinkled about neck and shoulders. Her slight buck tooth now emphasized as she got a rats jaw, gnashing her teeth and her tail lashing agitatedly behind her. "We don't have time for-" She cut herself off, suddenly confronted by the other girls wounded big eyed stare, and she gave a internal growl. Okay shouting at her probably wasn't going to help.
  37.
  38. "This mist is probably one of their quirks. Try not to breathe it in, it might be-" She trailed again, looking now as Princess Kumo had bent at the waist, sniffing deeply of the mist and giving a giggle, and Stray sighed. "Okay, mist is probably safe. We should get to the bomb as soon as possible in order to win this before they have time to recover."
  39.
  40. Time that was already swiftly fading as an enormous fog bank poured down the hallway-moving from an inconvenience lingering around their waist to now billowing over their heads. Stray lifted her head, whiskers twitching as she tried to sense what was going on-and then swiped into the mist, narrowing missing the nimble figure that tumbled out of the way.
  41.
  42. "Hello heroes." The voice seemed relaxed giving this was a combat, and both Stray and Princess Kumo stepped warily, barely able to see their foe. "So, welcome. How did you-huh. You came in the window. I didn't think of that." Stray move with instintive nervous energy, swiping back as she desperately recalled the Heroes Handbook. Okay okay. One of them should definitely go but how would they find the bomb? SHould they team up instead? She took three more wide swipes, and only the twitching of her whiskers warned her-narrowly pulling back before a string of capture tape passed through where her arm had been. Ugh! He could see better than she could, of course he'd try to capture and take her out! THis whole thing was unwinnabl-
  43.
  44. "Wow! I can hear you and you are like doing super super super duper well! OH my gosh go Stray!" The cheer from behind had been sudden, but also served to lock Stray's mind into place. No, she was doing just fine, and she didn't need to win, just....
  45.
  46. "Princess Kumo! Go away from the sound of my voice! Find the bomb!" She ordered, tone starting into frantic-and when her whiskers twitched she heard nothing-no sound of running feet, no voice. She tensed and...
  47.
  48. "Oh no, don't worry, she was gone before you said anything. She is /fast/ on her feet." The voice came out of the mist, reverberating around her. She lashed her tail more, making sure to sweep around and keep her unseen opponent from getting close. "Why is she barefoot though? Didn't they give her shoes with her costume before?"
  49.
  50. Stray snorted, and moved again-swinging with tighter, smaller swings as she moved towards where she thought she heard the Mist, only to find nothing but air, and another strand of capture tape whirled just over her ears, making her duck. "Okay, fine, don't talk. You guys all take this way too seriously. I mean you do realize that worst case scenario is our teacher swings a whip at us and tells us that we've been bad, right? I hear some people pay good money for that."
