background: yu yan was born in hong kong, china on june 20, 1995. she lived there until the age of 3 when her family decided to move to shanghai, china. yu yuan’s family owns the company zhao apparel, and it’s one of the biggest clothing companies in china. at the age of 18 she auditioned for sm entertainment and got 1st place in dancing and singing. at 18 yu yu moves from china to korea knowing absolutely nothing about the language or the culture. yu yu trained for 4 years but was placed in sm rookies after training for 2 years. before debuting she worked as a designer for her parents company. she often helped design clothing and bags. she even has her own collection called “Yu Yu”.
