"Theres no incentive to get good"

  1. I have to write something about this because the idea that theres no incentive to get good in this game right now is absolutely false.

  3. Listen I get it, a lack of majors and weekly tournaments is annoying but I'm sure we can work on that, however theres plenty of reward of being good.

  5. For example lets take BNS, a pretty big weekly tournament with about 50-60 teams recently, it always has a prize pool, so if a team was good enough to consistently beat the NA scene, they would get that every week.
  6. So lets say a team did that in the last complete season, season 5.
  7. Week 1: 215$
  8. Week 2: 268$
  9. Week 3 actually didn't mention the split between first and second but its generally 60/40 and it was 321$ so calculating thats about 192$
  10. Week 4 didn't mention the split either or the final prize pool but at bracket stage it was mentioned to be at 426.10$, again splitting 60/40 means first got about 256%
  11. Combine that and in a month from one weekly your team can make 931$ in one month from one weekly, that's almost 1,000$ and as the scene gets larger donations are only going to get higher over time, so this could be even more.

While we do lack majors its not like they don't have anything to offer, Squidboards normally does about 100-200$ to first place and run about once a month, Inkstorm allowed 2 teams to get a trip to Japan. Other tournaments have smaller prize pools such as art prizes or less then 100$, however for a one year old game this is a good amount.

  15. Being able to also do good could end up getting your team a sponsor, which means trips to LANs and more recognition. With all that being said theres incentive to be good at this game, its not as much as we want but its a new and growing scene with an incomplete game, give it time to develop, and while we may have problems with some things be it BNS commentary or a lack of majors, these things can be fixed over time and TO's and players in this community do put in effort. Incentive will grow over time as the scene develops, but there is already clearly a decent amount of incentive for a growing scene, so please stop saying there is none.
