  1. >This time, you stir as you wake up, and there is no pain
  2. >With a flex of your arms, the cocoon surrounding your body cracks
  3. >You push against the cocoon that has held you for who knows how long
  4. >Slowly, the structure dries out, and cracks apart, crumbling off you
  5. >You try to stand, but you do it far too quickly
  6. >Blood rush away from your head, and you shove a hand to the wall to stabilize yourself
  7. >You feel something smooth in response
  8. >When your vision finally returns, you can see that the wall is indeed made of some sort of black, smooth material
  9. >Even though you're out of your "bed" and no longer felt pain upon movement, you're still weak
  10. >Reaching a hand to your stomach, you wonder why you haven't felt hungry
  11. >At the same time, you feel something... else
  12. >Chitin
  13. >It has to be, it's like an exoskeleton armor
  14. >It's growing on you like a second skin
  15. >Growing, because you can feel thin patterns forming out from the center mass of it
  16. >About half of your body has this stuff
  17. >Some of your arms, legs, and torso
  18. >...
  19. >What got hit the hardest from the explosion...
  20. >Now that you've been standing, body awareness has officially returned in full
  21. >You feel different
  22. >New, in a sense
  23. >It also finally hits you that your shirt is missing, and your shorts are tattered
  24. >You start wondering where your shirt went, but are interrupted
  25. I see you're up, "Human"
  26. >It's the queen
  27. >Last time you spoke, she sounded suspicious
  28. >Like you could be a threat, or a risk
  29. >Consequences be damned, you have to know
  30. >You just hope she doesn't react badly, because from the looks of things, it may not end well for you
  31. Why did you keep me here; alive?
  32. >For the briefest second, you see a range of emotion and reaction flash across her face
  33. >Long story short, your question threw her off
  34. >She wasn't expecting it
  35. >That split second reveals to you that she might not be as bad as she looks
  36. >So you relax a little
  37. >But that instant is now past, and she retains an authoritative stance
  38. It has been said that you defeated the mightiest wild creature from the everfree- the hydra.
  39. >You nod slightly, remembering that Wesley had mentioned that he spoke for you
  40. >The barest hint of emotions cross her face again
  41. >But this time, you were looking her in the eyes, and they showed it all
  42. >Just like Wesley, she was struggling against herself, to maintain an image
  43. The ponies there...
  44. >She glances around, lowering her voice, and filling it with genuine concern
  45. Don't take kindly to other species. Particularly when proven capable of violence
  46. >Footst- or are they hoofsteps? approach
  47. >Chrysalis's voice rises again and reclaims its regality
  48. I spared your life because the power you possess can be of use to us
  49. >You resist the urge to smirk at her behavior
  50. >Wesley comes around a corner and into the room
  51. Yes, my queen?
  52. >He states, standing at attention
  53. You may take him to his quarters
  54. >Wesley obeys in silence as he motions for you to follow him
  55. >He takes you through an impossibly complex maze of passageways before stopping at a door
  56. >He pushes the handle down and swings it open, motioning for you to step inside
  57. >You do, and can see all the furnishings of a regular bedroom
  58. >A bed, nightstand, a large mirror, a clock, and a doorway to what looks like a bathroom
  59. >The clock reads 5:13
  60. >You turn around to thank Wesley, but he's gone
  61. >You walk to the bed, and see a note on top of the sheets
  62. Anon, dinner is in another couple hours
  63. Be sure to come, you are expected
  64. >Hastily scribbled below;
  65. Directions on back
  66. >You flip the paper over, and sure enough, you find a rough sketch of what looks like a maze of passageways, with a relatively simple rout highlighted
  67. >You assume it leads to the dining area
  68. >It looks like your current location is marked with an x
  69. >After making sure it won't fall out of your pocket, you place the map in one and make your way to the mirror
  70. >Now you can see that the right half of your body took the worst of it
  71. >Half your jaw was chitin, and even your left eye was green, now standing in stark contrast to your blue eye
  72. >After some experimentation with expressions, you discover that it can widen or shrink from circles to slits
  73. >Moving on, you examine your chest
  74. >On the left side, a huge portion is black chitin, making that side of your body mostly covered
  75. >You imagine what you must have looked like before it grew in
  76. >You flinch
  77. >You had to have half your left side missing, plus some of your right
  78. >In total, you can now tell you had sustained injury to almost all your left torso, the upper half of your left leg, the upper half of your right, your right forearm, and it would seem your entire left hand
  79. >Each of these areas doesn't have skin, just slick black chitin that connected to the skin with much thinner black veins
  80. >You would wonder for a moment why you didn't notice earlier, but dismiss it as being right handed
  81. >Self analysis over, you lay down on the bed, staring at the clock
  82. >You let your mind wonder to other things as you wait
  83. >Like what use you would have here, and what would have become of you otherwise
