- The first wave of boarders were on top of them—their lower quarters moving like snakes and their bodies raised above, armed with clubs and three branched spears. They were human from the waist up, though totally blue. One of them hissed at Jodah and swung a thick, heavy club made of coral. Jodah danced away from the blow then came back with a slash of his own. A ragged, blue-green streak appeared in the center of the mer-creature, and it fell away.
