  1. Take two points on a circle,
  2. And draw a line straight through.
  3. The space that was encircled
  4. Is now split up into 2.
  5.
  6. To these points add a third one,
  7. Which gives us two more chords.
  8. The space through which these lines run
  9. Has been fissured into 4.
  10.
  11. Continue with the fourth point,
  12. And three more lines drawn straight,
  13. Now the count of disjoint regions
  14. Sums in all to 8.
  15.
  16. A fifth point and its four lines
  17. Support this pattern glean,
  18. Counting sections, one divines
  19. That there is now 16.
  20.
  21. This pattern here of doubling
  22. Does seem a sturdy one,
  23. But one more step is troubling
  24. As the sixth gives 31.
