Vaporeon strats for Blizzard route

SUMMARY OF EFFECTS

Dying to Rival 1 is about 8 seconds faster than winning (3 seconds faster than double jingle skip). You don't get the $175 for winning this fight. Your rival has Vulpix/Ninetales and Vaporeon for fights 4-7, rather than Shellder/Cloyster and Flareon. Vulpix/Ninetales come out early enough that you can set up on them, taking advantage of their pitiful moves. Vulpix/Ninetales do have Quick Attack on all four fights, however, which can troll or kill you.

Rivals 4-7 give less experience. You usually should make up the loss from fights 4-5 by fighting a different Hiker on Route 25. Fighting him is about 7 seconds slower. You should make up the loss from fight 6 by delaying your Rare Candies until after Viridian Rival and/or Bruno. This might introduce a Blizzard range on Viridian Rival's Sandslash and/or cause the Kadabra to outspeed you.

Finally, the Magneton on Champion (Rival 7) is a higher level, which makes it a range with EQ on every Attack DV. You can deal with this in several ways (X Attack with good Speed, get extra PP item, delay PP item, go for the range). It can use Screech or Swift (~22 dmg). Oh, and if you're on 1:53 pace, you're guaranteed to die to crit QA from Champion's Ninetales.
