  3. Q: Why do you use Light Theme?
  4. A: Because it's easier on my eyes. It's what I'm used to in almost every other web page there currently is. Social media platforms are only recently adopting Dark Theme implementations, so my usage of Light Theme should, in my opinion, be seen as nothing more than a basic, default option. Books, magazines, documents, and most chatting apps implement Light Theme by default, and it's a good fit for me.
  5.
  6. Q: Doesn't it strain your eyes?
  7. A: Quite on the contrary. Using Dark Theme forces my persistence of vision such that the white letters against the dark background start sticking around in the back of my retina, thus making long texts look blurry and hard to follow. My eyes will start to water and I will then need to take a break from reading. Light Theme doesn't have the same issue, since the persistence of vision issue is hardly noticeable under normal circumstances.
  8.
  9. Q: But isn't Light Theme ugly?
  10. A: It used to be, and for some it might still be. Ultimately, my focus on Discord is in the interactions I exchange with fellow server members, not the visual aesthetic of the interface. It is fair to remember that Dark Theme does not (as of writing) provide any advantageous feature over Light Theme that would render the former superior in capabilities. Besides, Dark Theme itself could be improved with external tools such as Better Discord or custom CSS. Though I have tried to create a variant of Light Theme on my own through CSS, I have (as of writing) not updated or maintained it, so Light Theme remains the closest option to my needs.

  12. Q: Dark Theme is default, why not stick with it?
  13. A: Because Discord gives me the option. If there was no Light Theme, I'd be forced to adapt to Dark Theme and the issues it brings up for me in particular. So long as I am given the option to use Light Theme, I will stick to it.
  14.
  15. Q: Don't you feel like you're the only one using Light Theme?
  16. A: Perhaps. That is not something I take into consideration, however, as my goal - as mentioned earlier - is to provide myself with the best option for my daily reading. The fact that I might be one of the few users of Light Theme does not interfere in my desire for a better usage of the given interface. If you want, you can consider it an "accessibility" feature: few use, but it doesn't then render it useless/inappropriate.
  17.
  18. Q: Why not change to Dark Theme when sharing prints of Discord?
  19. A: I refuse to submit myself to such a pointless task every time I want to quickly and efficiently share some bit of information solely so that I can spare myself from having to answer to yet another bored user who thinks they're being original by pointing out my use of Light Theme. Between compromising by changing to Dark Theme for a quick screenshot or dealing with commenters... well, this text is your answer.

  21. Q: Why did you spend your time making this Q&A/F.A.Q instead of just dismissing/ignoring/deflecting comments about Light Theme?
  22. A: Because it has become an almost daily occurrence. I have come to realize that spending half an hour on an F.A.Q would save me a lot of time and mental effort in the long run, as these occurrences pop up more and more. After dealing with the exact same types of comments being regurgitated over and over again for years now, it has come to a point where I just can't be assed to give every smart alec their little spotlight of unique acknowledgement. It's time consuming, exhausting and quite frustrating. This F.A.Q, albeit labor-intensive, is far more generalized and impersonal, and saves the both of us the embarrassment of having me hand your ass on a plate personally.
  23.
  24. Q: I think you should use Dark Theme because [insert literally any reason here].
  25. A: While not a question, I feel worth it addressing: my usage of Light Theme should, in no way, affect your daily tasks and exchanges. I seldom share prints of Discord, so you'd be doing the two of us a grand favor by keeping your mockery and unoriginal jokes to yourself. Whatever you've conjured up in your mind in the past 15 minutes to try to make me feel bad about using Light Theme has been said before multiple times by multiple different people. Rather, consider using this time for something more productive and better-informed in your day, because I'll keep using this theme regardless of what you say.

  27. If you've read it this far, thanks. Most people wouldn't bother. Now, you might feel tempted to apologize, justify, or share your thoughts and opinions on the subject matter. Don't. Please, I've heard it all. I'm sure you thought it wasn't such a common occurrence to warrant an F.A.Q., or that you didn't mean any harm, or that you just so happen to think that Light Theme would be better if [insert whatever reason here]. Please do not share. The reason why this F.A.Q. exists in the first place is to precisely and succinctly end the conversation about Light Theme. Remember: before Light Theme was brought up, a different conversation was taking place, that happened to include a picture I've shared. The discussion was interrupted by you bringing up my usage of Light Theme. So, instead, go back to that original subject. The quicker the subject of Light Theme is dropped, the better it is for everyone involved.

  29. If you have any more questions about my usage of Light Theme, keep it to yourself. Thanks, and I hope you have a good day!
