  1. THAUMATURGY
  2. _______________________________________________
  3.
  4. Thaumaturgy is a common practice throughout the world of Nobella; so much so that it's pretty much akin to electricity in the real world. It's used everywhere, everyone can learn it through study, what really divides people is their dedication to the research.
  5.
  6. There are three steps to controlling magic.
  7.
  8. 1:) The Thaumaturge identifies the aspects that make up an object or phenomena.
  9.
  10. 2:) They reconfigure those aspects, shaping and sculpting them into a new phenomena through the use of their prana.
  11.
  12. 3:) Excess mana and used aspects are burnt during the casting of the spell, which is cast through a catalyst that carries the scrawled symbols. If too much of either is used, it burns into a remaining byproduct that can heavily damage the surroundings its released into. This byproduct is called Flux.
  13.
  14.
  15. Law of Conservation: Or 'Clyde's Law'; after the war, Floria was wracked with flux, resulting in the country being perpetually scarred due to the warping effects that came with the magic. While not a law that is needed to be followed, it is widely respected due to it being an efficient way of protecting yourself and the surroundings.
  16.
  17. Put simply, the law of conservation simply states that there will always be an equal outcome to your income; placing too much mana into a spell, for example, could end in catastrophe, despite initial effects being powerful.
  18.
  19. Rebound: When a Thaumaturge's spell is far too much to cast, then they must give something else in order to fuel it. This is a common mistake made by mages that attempt to use a spell that's too powerful for them to handle, which results in their flesh being used as the new aspect.
  20.
  21. Yuma's Law: Yuma's Law is among the most important and fundamental pieces of Thaumaturgy to this say; it simply states that 'One is All, and All is One.'
  22.
  23. Put simply, Yuma's Law means that Thaumaturges can reshape and recombine any and all aspects into new ones, permitting they have the mana necessary. It is more costly to reshape aspects entirely, however, and is generally best performed by those familiar with spells they are casting.
  24.
  25. The Human Soul: What is the worth of life? A common question asked by Thaumaturges, and also one that has resulted in countless mishaps. To date, nobody in the world has discovered a way to revive others; many means of expanding a lifespan beyond centuries have been found, but the concept of bringing somebody back from the dead has long been deemed impossible in some Thaumaturgical circles.
  26.
  27. ARTIFACTS
  28. _______________________________________________
  29. Artifacts, or Magitech, are unique, magically created devices that are designed to fulfill one specific purpose. They are essentially a spell contained within an object. They take the form of something simple, but can become something much more grand through activation. A simple example is a necklace that can turn into a suit of magical armour.
  30.
  31. Artifacts are both found across the world through anomalous and unknown means, and also invented by powerful magi; creating magical devices is excruciatingly expensive.
