  1. The Ancients
  2.
  3. The Ancients of Cord, were a set of powerful beings, who became ascended after battling a terrible enemy. Their origins, however were mostly humble, their roots, being the same as the mortals of Cord.
  4.
  5. They left behind many things, but here only information on their living progeny will be detailed.
  6.
  7. The Ancients
  8.
  9. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  10.
  11. Sephiragios, Sword of Parting.
  12.
  13. Agios was once a young and brash salamander, beating his brethren in bravery, ten to one, but losing to them in temperance, and patience. When a large beast, the Katza, appeared and threatened his tribe, Agios was the first to throw himself at it. It is said, that the battle was legendary, a tiny Salamander, battling a colossal dragon. It inspired courage in all of those watching, who spread the news, and roused all of Cord
  14.
  15. Agios was wounded badly, but his brethren recognized his heroism and flung his body into a volcano, into which they all send a fireball. And from the volcano, rose the ascended Sephir-agios, tall and proud, large to a man as a man was to a salamander, burning with pure flame, and powerful beyond compare.
  16.
  17. Later on, Sephiragios had a much more successful rematch with Katza, the cuts he dealt serving to bring the beast it's final defeat. Sephiragios is the Ancient of Victory, of Fire, the Sun, Conquest and Parting (separation in any form, and meaning).
  18.
  19. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  20.
  21. Rephios, the Golden
  22.
  23. Nobody knows where the ancient Rephios came from. It is said, that he is the oldest ancient, whose true form and power are unfathomable, but for some reason, he has chosen to appear entirely human, barring his golden eyes. Rephios always appears fully armored, wielding a shield, and a different weapon depending on the depiction, although a hammer or sword are common. He also wears flying sandals, or a cape that allows him to fly.
  24.
  25. Rephios blinded the Katza with his sword and brought the light with him as he chased the beast into the bowels of the earth. It is said, that Rephios lead the charge, when the Ancients rallied against Katza. His shield, is rumored to be able to protect the wielder from absolutely anything, that his sword shines with the brightness of the sun, and his hammer, once thrown, always strikes true.
  26.
  27. Rephios doesn't make many public appearances, but he is said to appear and turn the tide of a battle, by inspiring the desperate warriors, or slaying monsters, terrorizing humans. Rephios presides over Glory, Justice, Light, Humanity and Truth
  28.
  29. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  30.
  31. Zessalt, Dekarch
  32.
  33. Alt is said to have been a minor wind spirit, who helped raise the Shattered Moon from the ground in times immemorial. When Katza threatened his home, Alt rose to the challenge, and went to seek help from his fellow weather spirits. They refused, so Alt subjugated ten of their most powerful, and bound their form to a metal pike, which he used to drive the beast back.
  34.
  35. It is said, the power of the weather spirits made the Alt invincible, and that he was the only one who could fight the beast at it's strongest, in single combat. He was the one who forced the beast to assume it's final and true shape, with a mighty strike from his spear, leading to the final battle of the Ancients. After defeating Katza, it is said he took on a lesser form, and fathered the Zessian species. For that, he is called Zess-alt.
  36.
  37. Zessalt is considered the "king" of the Ancients, and presides over weather, the skies, and war.
  38.
  39. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  40.
  41. Erech
  42.
  43. Long ago, myths spoke of a shadowy gravedigger who appeared whenever there were rumors of ghosts, or shades haunting anyone, or even a whole area. He appeared without notice, and disappeared just as fast, with very scarce records of him going around. Where he went, there were no more ghosts. It is said, Erech "evolved" from this entity.
  44.
  45. He bears no titles, and it is unknown what exactly his role in the fight against Katza was, but all of the Ancients barring Zessalt, agreed that his presence was indispensable, and his feats great. Zessalt looks completely human, even if almost unnaturally pale. He often appears as a man in his mid thirties, or even mid twenties sometimes.
  46.
  47. Erech presides over death.
  48.
  49.
  50. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  51.
  52. Omnios, Empress of Time
  53.
  54. The third member of the -ios trinity, Omnios was an ancient native of Corius, who had established herself in an ancient keep, in Aldor. When Katza rose to destroy Corius, he chanced upon Omnios' tower. It is said, that much like the Ancient Nefrigas, Omnios held her own with ease, trapping Katza numerous times and causing it terrible damage and frustration. Omnios originated as a mortal being, with a vast capacity for magic. Magic beyond what Dream Force could normally offer.
  55.
  56. Once the battle against Katza ended, Omnios escaped in the space between worlds, constructing a great city, offering shelter, protection and wisdom to those that can find it. She rarely concerns herself with mortal affairs, but whenever she does, her impact is both great, and incredibly subtle. Omnios is said to look surprisingly human, bellying her true power.
  57.
  58. Omnios presides over wisdom, space and time.
  59.
  60. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  61.
  62. Nefrigas, Winter Incarnate
  63.
  64. A dwarf ice-dragon, Rigas only slightly larger than your average human being, but in turn, capable of manipulating several aspects of reality. Possessing a connection to mirrors, reflections, parallel dimensions, and the very cold of winter, the dragon warded off Katza by luring it into his labyrinthine Fortress of Winter. It is said, that the power Nef-rigas wields over sorcery and magic was unparalleled. When the final battle came, he cast an enchantment to make himself much larger, so he could battle the beast on even grounds.
  65.
  66. Nefrigas gathered many followers, and introduced a solid part of the Summoning system to humans. He was said to have possessed an odd, but still lovely sense of humor, and tried his best, using his domain over winter and cold, to make living in the Cold easier. During his time, a semblance of civilization developed there as well.
  67.
  68. Nefrigas presides over magic, and aspects of winter and cold. (Generally any typically winter-y aspect of weather like snow, or blizzards goes to Nefrigas, more than to Zessalt)
  69.
  70. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  71.
  72. Nefrakil, the Animator
  73.
  74. A 'scientist" among the Ancients, Nefrakil was a primordial being, born from animated inorganic matter, that was splattered with the blood of Katza. However, being pure of the beast's dark will, Nefrakil immediately took to the world of Corius, and Cord in particular, using his gifts to produce many new species and mutants, with which he lived in peace. The draconic nature of Katza begun to show even more, and so Nefrakil was named with the prefix Nef- , denoting a dragon.
  75.
  76. When the Ancients came calling, Nefrakil was among the first to respond, using his unique nature to point out weaknesses and strategies into defeating Katza. It was his idea, that ultimately destroyed the Beast. Nefrakil then turned his attention to "upgrading" the races of Cord. He gave the Zessians their protective hard skin, the Frostbloods their regenerative powers, sealed the Chaos Force within the Chaos Beings so they wouldn't outright die from taking a stroll, and infused humans with the power to use Dream Force as they do.
  77.
  78. Nefrakil presides over the essence of life, soul, progress and change.
  79.
  80. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  81.
  82. Dorolech, The Master of Tricks
  83.
  84. Dorolech, was an ancient spirit, that took possession of a suit of clothes, and a mask, wandering about the countryside as a trickster. Some considered him benevolent, some malignant, but it was known to all that he was fundamentally unpredictable, and mysterious. When Katza found him, the beast struck at the trickster with all it could. Dorolech, however, was beyond even Katza's understanding and power, and survived the event.
  85.
  86. He surged back into action sometime later, to help the fight against Katza, not for loyalty, or higher ideals, not even for vengeance, but simply because it would be amusing. And it appeared he was an useful fighter, capable of casting even the great power of Katza into doubt. From then on, little was known of his whereabouts, but he occasionally appeared to stir things up, steal priceless artifacts, and give lessons in humility.
  87.
  88. Dorolech presides over mystery and the unknown in general, trickery, discord and thievery.
  89.
  90. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  91.
  92. Odris, the Tree of Life
  93.
  94. The male half of twin Ancients, born of the very earth. Odris manifested as a gigantic tree, which grew limbs, and feet, and begun wandering Cord. In it's great benevolence, Ordis often settled down, and spread seeds and life all over large plots of land. One of it's favorite landing spots, was the region of Erilya, and his work has been quite extensive there, as all can tell. Odris was peaceful and old, yet not impotent. When Katza tried to burn his forests, the Ancient rose to defend them.
  95.
  96. And while many lives were lost in the battle, very few of those lives were of Odris' trees. He is perceived as a defender of nature, who reincarnates and possesses simple trees, to bring himself forward and present his case peacefully and calmly. He never kills, or injures, but if someone is not to be let into his territory, then that someone will die without stepping foot in it. Even if they are immortal.
  97.
  98. Odris presides over aspects of life, wildlife especially, nature in general, fertility and peace.
  99.
  100. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  101.
  102. Adora of the Forge-home
  103.
  104. The twin of Odris, Adora manifested as a gigantic stone-creature, which absorbed gemstones as it travelled the subterranean Cord. It grew massive gigantic fists, and used them to punch off bits of land, forming Bered, Akala and the Meleen Archipelago. Once she was done with this, she travelled further down, where she found a molten lake.
  105.
  106. There, she shed her crude form, revealing a beautiful stone woman underneath, and using the best material from her former body, to shape a legendary hammer, and anvil. Deep into the bowels of the earth, where not even Katza dare step, Adora hosted a great party for the Ancients, and at the end of it, smithed them their legendary weapons. The Dekarch Spear, the Sword of Parting, the True Scythe etc...
  107.
  108. Adora is said to have had an impressive host of assistants, the legendary dwarves, who perished at some point, for some unknown reason. She presides over fun, parties, drinking, as well as earthquakes, crafstmanship, and the underground.
  109.
  110. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  111.
  112. Lisia, Starborn
  113.
  114. Lisia was said to have manifested from the will of the night, the brightest star, fallen and brought to human form. She only came out when the sun was down, and even then, seemed to engage into very little activity. It fit her nature well, as she was highly secretive, and only revealed herself or her knowledge and power, to the most devout followers. Lisia appeared to look mostly human, but each time, was clad in a different type of light.
  115.
  116. She fought the Katza whenever night fell, and while her true power is unknown, some scholars have noted that almost any description of the Katza striking back at the Ancients, happened during the day, with the beast only ever trying to attack during the night once, near the beginning of it's rampage. Most take it as a confirmation of Lisia's unfathomable true power.
  117.
  118. As an Ancient, she presides over many things, depending on who you ask. The Arts, the night, the stars, imagination, secrets, femininity, beauty, darkness and inspiration.
  119.
  120. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  121.
  122. Croman, the Exiled.
  123.
  124. A difficult entity to define, by all means, more mysterious than Dorolech himself in certain aspects. His origins are unknown, the true extend of his power is unthinkable, and his nature is a mystery. Croman was a gigantic elemental of a pure and primal power. Some say he was a dream force elemental. Others say he was the planet's will given life. Nobody however, is quite sure on the matter at hand.
  125.
  126. Croman's form is a gigantic swirl of pure blue, fiery Dream force. It has a vague humanoid shape, and some parts of it's body are covered in plates, and chains, restricting the core of the creature from releasing more energy. It is, on top of this, sealed within a tomb, in the Alpine region. The cult of Croman has always wanted to free him, and unleash him on the world, after the other Ancients bound his terrifying power.
  127.
  128. Croman was never part of the Ancients proper, instead he fought off Katza on his own, and could match the power of the beast even at it's most fearsome. However, was he to go all out, Cord may well have been destroyed. The Ancients sealed him, but also recognized his effort and help, albeit unintentional.
  129.
  130. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  131.
  132. The Seeds
  133.
  134. Apprentices, disciples, children of the Ancients. Seeds similarly possess power or a domain of sorts over natural concepts or forces.
  135.
  136. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  137.
  138. Oria, Seed of Death (Erech).
  139.
  140. Oria is the "daughter" of the local grim reaper, Erech. She is rumored to be an Automaton, who still exists and does her father's job, after his and the other Ancient's disappearances. Before, Oria simply served to dispatch Erech's enemies, and those who broke the sanctity of the life and death cycle.
  141.
  142. Her current domain is death.
  143.
  144. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  145.
  146. Deilara, Seed of the Moon (Omnios).
  147.
  148. The adopted child of Omnios, Deilara is said to be as terrifying as her elder "sister", Oria. She closely worked with the Ancient Rephios back when he was around. While Rephios was the judge and the other Ancients the jury, Deilara served as the executor. One proclaimed an enemy of the Ancients, worth of death by their hand, had until the full moon rose into the sky to make amends. Nobody would be safe.
  149.
  150. Deilara presides over the moon, as well as enacting justice.
  151.
  152. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  153.
  154. Clio, Seed of the Messenger (Zessalt).
  155.
  156. The Messenger, Clio is said to have ridden the purest, whitest thunder, to the ends of the world, appearing in a flash of light, and breaking even through the barriers of space and time. As the Seed of Zessalt, her power and authority were considered great and on par with other Ancients. Once they disappeared however, Clio had no messages to deliver, and so, turned to her hobby: exploration.
  157.
  158. Clio is the messenger of the Ancients, and other than this presides over Exploration.
  159.
  160. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  161.
  162. Quila, Seed of Love (Lisia).
  163.
  164. Once a great artist, and renown heartbreaker, she challenged Lisia to a bet of unspecified nature. She lost sorely, but her strength of spirit got to the Ancients. In all her benevolence, Lisia peered into the future and realized that Quila's love escapades would bring about her doom, and went to change her for the better. Years later, Quila resurged, now, preserving and helping love grow, instead of the opposite.
  165.
  166. She presides over love, friendship, sexuality, counsel and family, appearing as different aspects/avatars of her being.
  167.
  168. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  169.
  170. Grommlad, the Seed of the Forge (Adora).
  171.
  172. The Last Dwarf. Grommlad is the last to possess knowledge of the legendary smithing techniques Adora employed. He has built many great, yet simple works throughout the ages, while his mother and superior recovered from her legendary hangovers. Despite his crafstmanship matching that of Adora, he was rumored to be terribly grumpy.
  173.
  174. The truth could not be further from that. Once every year, during the month long Festival of Adora, Grommlad scouted every settlement, whether a tiny village, or a sprawling capital, and had his mechanical servants, sneak into the homes of the people he judged most worthy, and leave by a gift, made by the legendary crafstman himself.
  175.
  176. He presides over craftsmanship, numerous virtues and happiness.
  177.
  178. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  179.
  180. Varakil, Seed of Blood (Nefrigas).
  181.
  182. Varakil was the first immortal Frostblood, who turned on his father, and developed a terrible thirst from dream force. And dream force is most dense within living bodies, particularly, in their blood. By the time he vanished into legend, Varakil had become a terrifying figure to many. Very few Frostbloods have any good opinion of him, but those who do, are practically his personal cult.
  183.
  184. Varakil presides over hunger, thirst, curses and blood.
  185.
  186. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  187.
  188. Golth, Seed of Strength (Odris).
  189.
  190. The self proclaimed brother of Grommlad, Golth is a warrior of pure stone, with a sculpted body, and mighty strength. His job, is simple: to protect. Golth grants strength to the weak, grants shelter to the homeless, he grants voice to the voiceless. His job, is to stand for those who cannot stand for themselves, the oppressed, the suffering and the poor.
  191.
  192. He presides over strength, protection and heroism.
  193.
  194. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  195.
  196. Ancient Constructs.
  197.
  198. Other creations of the Ancients, barring the Seeds. Less common, and still large,t mysteries.
  199.
  200. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  201.
  202. Crystal Beings.
  203.
  204. Entities that resemble the original form of Adora. Sentient crystal cores, that possess masses of stone and reshape it into humanoid form. These cores are highly dense in dream force, and enable it's transmitting. The Crystal Beings served the Ancients directly, and their purpose was a mystery for a long, long time.
  205.
  206. Sightings of them have been reported throughout the years, but barring that, very little is known.
  207.
  208. Djinn.
  209.
  210. Spirits that materialized long ago, and were subjugated and then brought to the service of the Ancients. Djinn are what enable Summoning Battles and Arenas to function. They are sealed into the construct, and power it through their raw dream force. Djinn appear often, as referees, witnesses and an audience to battles. Their power is also what causes the enforcement of deals and agreements made over a summoning battle.
  211.
  212. Awakening Boxes
  213.
  214. Odd red boxes, the top of which is opened through a lever at the the side. It reveals a hole, and peering into it, is said to allow the one gazing to pull out a powerful summon, and then bind it into a gem. Sometimes, it allows the awakening and summoning of one's Spirit Summoning, or as some report, the awakening of new, unheard of abilities. Looking twice into an Awakening Box within a short span of time is said to trap the onlooker, and convert them into either a Summon or Djinn, depending on the source.
  215.
  216. Ark Wanderers
  217.
  218. Strange, beings, coated in metal their bodies resembling sealed arks, and their faces masked with human likeness. With great and numerous wings, and a weapon in hand, they often appear in the distant wilderness, out of the blue. Those not meant to see them, meet a swift end at their sword, as do their summons. But it just so happens that rarely, these beings choose to impale someone with their weapons and then impart a great power to them, whether a strengthening of their Spirit Summon, a new gem, or a completely different sort of power altogether.
  219.
