  1. HP T610 Thin Client 4GB, 16 GB SSD, Windows XP SP3 installation notes
  2. ========================
  3. - Connected T610 to HDMI monitor via DVI-to-HDMI adapter
  4. - Installed Windows XP SP3 from CD using an external USB DVD-Burner. I just couldn't get the bootable USB stick to boot correctly, but booting from CD-Rom worked fine.
  5. - Ran the full 21 GB Snappy Drivertool installation from USB stick, and installed all recommended drivers (several reboots required)
  6. - Snappy doesn't install the Catalyst control panel, so I found and installed working Catalyst Driver for XP: "14-4-xp32-64-dd-ccc-pack2.exe"
  7. - Adjusted over/underscan setting in Catalyst to remove the annoying black screen borders
  8. - Installed TweakUI ("TweakUIPowertoySetup.exe", XP version) and used it to disable automatic hard disk optimization
  9.
  10. Optional:
  11. - Installed DirectX 9.0c. Re-installed Catalyst after DirectX 9.0c installation, because DirectX overwrote the display driver with a generic one.
  12. - Installed my licensed copy of Directory Opus 12, Windows XP version, for advanced file management with zip handling.
  13. - Installed WinRAR (wrar600.exe) for archive support
  14. - Installed the old XP Version of Daemontools Lite to be able to mount isos: "Lite 4.40.1_DTLite4401-0127.exe"
  15. - Bought 500 GB external Samsung SSD, connected as D:\ drive, and installed many games from gog.com to it. Gog.com games work on XP. Select the option to "Download Offline Backup Game Installers" on gog.com to get standalone installers. Then run the installers directly on the Thin Client to install the games. The target drive can be selected in the installer.
  16.
  17. Notes on Games:
  18. - Populous 3
  19. 1. Edit "regs.cmd" file in game folder and remove all instances of "/reg32" from it. Then run the file.
  20. 2. Right click the shortcut to launch the game, and add /frameratemouse to the target so it reads ...\D3DPopTB.exe" /frameratemouse instead of just ...\D3DPopTB.exe". This removes the stuttering and slow down in the game.
  21. 3. To disable the overly loud echo effect in game, run dxdiag and change Hardware Audio Acceleration from "Full" to "Standard" before starting the game. It is some badly programmed EAX effect or so.
  22.
  23. - Baldur's Gate 1 and 2
  24. 1. Install "ie-ddrawfix" (infinity engine directdraw fix), for each game. During installation, turn "direct draw emulation" ON. Don't enable WINE library. This fixes corrupted graphics in the game.
  25.
  26. - Pro Pinball Series
  27. 1. To fix stuttering sound in the game, just alt-tab to switch to desktop, and then alt-tab again to switch back to the game. Sound always stutters during the options menu, just ignore that.
