➣ Personality: he's really a kind person at heart. he will snap easily when the others leave a mess, but he cleans it up anyway. he was a little distant with the others, and he seemed cold when he first met everyone. he's really reliable and can pretty much be counted on at any hour of the day. he's the type of person to go eat ramen at a 24 hour convenience store with someone in the middle of the night just because they were bored and needed something to do. it doesn't appear this way, but he really cares about everyone else and wants the best for them. however, he's physically distant from everyone because alongside his ocd, he has germaphobia. he is quite introverted and likes to keep to himself sometimes. he's really overprotective of the people he truly loves.

➣ Background: jaeseok was born in a middle class family and lived in a decent apartment in a nice neighborhood. when jaeseok was six years old, his father took a large loan to invest in his business, and the business flourished for a few years. things started to go downhill for the business when jaeseok was ten. his father had accumulated a lot of debt from trying to save his failing business, and the crippling weight of the debt began to weigh on him, as well as his family. when jaeseok was eleven, the business finally went bankrupt, and the family was forced to evict their apartment. they moved into a smaller apartment in a more dangerous part of the city and were constantly being hounded by loan sharks. the burden of the debt took his toll on jaeseok's father, causing him to take him own life. jaeseok was the one who found his father and it scarred him. he subconsciously blamed himself for his father's death, and this event is where his germphobia and ocd stemmed from. he found himself constantly being over conscious about his personal hygiene, to the point at which his hands were red from scrubbing them clean so much. the reason he became so worried about cleanliness was because he somehow rationalized that having everything be clean might wash away his bad memories. his ocd came about through the germaphobia, as he was obsessed with keeping things clean and neat. his germaphobia has gotten better than it once was, however. things were even harder for his family after the loss of his father, as the family still retained all of the debt. his mother worked multiple jobs to raise jaeseok and his twin sister, jaeeun. when jaeseok was fourteen, his mother remarried to his middle school homeroom teacher.

jaeseok was mediocre all throughout high schoo, and never had any clear goals as to what he wanted to do. he never had any friends during high school, really. he was pretty distant from his classmates. he developed his insomnia while he was in high school and spent most of his nights wandering aimlessly around his neighborhood during the night. this was when he met {the worker}. he graduated with average grades. he decided against going to college, and he enlisted in the army. after he got back from the army, he still had no idea what he wanted to do with his life, so he got a part time job to help out his family and help pay for his sister's college tuition.

[cha hyunsoo / stepfather / teacher / 6] ; they aren't super close, but they get along well. they got along pretty well when jaeseok was his student, and that didn't change after hyunsoo married jaeseok's mother. they don't talk a lot, mainly because they are both introverted.
