“So you don't understand?”

I can't say why exactly it's so frustrating the way she phrased that.  It's not smugness.  It's not even that she woke me up to ask.  Somehow, if anything, it's like she's just idly curious how anyone could possibly not understand it.
“No.  I think I finally get the other parts, at least to some extent, but this is beyond me.”
I pick up one of the smaller ones as it tries to crawl behind my back.  It's not like it isn't safe, but I'd just as soon it not be there.
“Is it really that different?”
It starts licking my arm before I set it back down on the bed in front of me.
“It certainly feels different,” I admit, as two others begin clambering over it for my attention, while a half-dozen more note that I'm awake and begin running over with their awkward, not-yet-fully-coordinated gaits.

“How so?”

I am halfway to being fully smothered by a pile of puppies before I can even begin trying to explain.
