The Story So Far: Shikinami and Isonami chase after their new goal, to "form a jazz band". Asashimo and Kishinami spot their recruitment poster and come to them. "New members already!" think Shikinami and Isonami, but Asashimo and Kishinami are looking for a jazz performance to cheer up their older sister Hamanami. On Isonami's proposal, the four of them decide to form a limited-time band.

Akashi?: You OK with the drums, Kishinami?
Kishi: Yes!
This girl suits me just fine.

Kishi: I should be able to become proficient.
Akashi: I see, I see.
You do have a good sense of rhythm, it might suit you.

Akashi: That said,
you can't just hit the drums however you want.
That goes for any instrument - learn your fundamentals!

Akashi: Also,
your technique and instinct will sharpen as you gain experience and practice day to day.
Kishi: I see.

Shikinami - Second of the Ayanami-class destroyers, and the main character of this series. She's a good girl at heart but has trouble being honest with herself. She has an interest in the alto sax she found in the warehouse.
Isonami - Ninth of the Fubuki-class destroyers. Enjoys taking photos while lost in thought. She joins the band to see more of the world.
Ooyodo & Akashi - First of the Ooyodo-class light cruisers and an Akashi-class repair ship. Support Shikinami, since they dabbled with jazz in the past.

Akashi: Lastly,
For jazz drumming, instead of playing like that-

Shiki: (Right, right...)

Iso: Shikinami-chan, Shikinami-chan!

Shiki: Ah!
Isonami, you've decided on one too?
Iso: ...yeah!

Shiki: ...kinda big, huh.
(Even though we're on the small side.)

I-It's okay, I can just manage to reach.

Iso: I did a lot of thinking,
and decided this instrument was right for me.
Shiki: How come?

Kishinami - Fifteenth of the Yuugumo-class destroyers. At a glance she leaves a calm  and cool personality, but in fact she likes to actively enjoy whatever she does.
Asashimo - Sixteenth of the Yuugumo-class destroyers. She's impatient and speaks roughly, but she deeply cares for those around her.

Iso: Instruments with low pitch like the bass
are said to be the "unsung" players.

Iso: They're often thought of as plain,
but they support the other instruments by providing a solid foundation of sound...

Iso: A-And I... as a shipgirl...
that's the kind of person I'd love to be...

Iso: ... well,
that's the explanation I decided on,
but now that I've said it out loud it's kind of embarrassing!
(Ehehe)
Shiki: Sounds good to me.
A good a reason to start as any.

The other important parts to producing sound are,
how you breathe, the shape of your lips, and using the right amount of force.
(Your lips should be shaped almost as if you were whistling, so just think of that while blowing.)

Ooyodo: Now keep all of that in mind, and try and get a sense of how to make a sound
