I have the same problem too when my phone goes roaming. The went to Singapore from Hong Kong and the phone heat up with no reason. Battery drained after one evening. Like you I was able to re-create the problem while I was in Singapore. The phone was back to normal once it is back to "home country" - Hong Kong.

Will be on another trip next week and check if it happens again. But indeed it's a very annoying problem.
