Pokémon White 2 any% FAQ

Why do you keep resetting?
I am using RNG manipulation by starting the game at a specific time (and holding certain buttons down) to get a seed which will mean I can get a good Tepig and the encounters I want at the start of the game. Due to a random value called timer0 determining the seed as well as the time, sometimes I will not get the correct seed. I will know if I got the correct seed if the clock hand when creating save data begins facing to the bottom right. The Tepig has a Naughty nature with IVs of 31/29/31/29/31/25.

Why do you pick the boy/girl?
No particular reason, they are both the same for speedrunning.

Why do you name yourself/Drilbur "9" and the rival "H"?
Having a 1 character name saves time and since 9 is right next to the confirm button it's the easiest to select. It's faster to rename the rival as well because the intro sequence starts creating save data at the start, and so always takes a minimum amount of time.

Why do you not name Tepig?
He isn't used for long enough for it to be worth taking the time to name him, since text in this game is really fast.

Why do you choose Tepig?
Tepig is the best for beating the beginning of the game (and the whole game in fact, but that doesn't matter because Drilbur is better for later on).

Why do you catch Pidove and Psyduck?
Pidove is for fly and Psyduck is for surf and strength. You also need 3 pokémon to fight Charles.

Why do you catch Drilbur?
Excadrill is the best pokémon for beating this game quickly. It has high attack and speed, and learns very good moves. It is also steel type meaning it can't be poisoned, which is useful for later in the game.

Why do you change the time before catching Drilbur?
In a similar way to Tepig, I manipulate the RNG to get a good Drilbur. The way I know if I got the correct timer0 this time is I see if the dust cloud spawns. The Drilbur is Level 19 (the highest in that area), has an Adamant nature with IVs of 31/31/31/24/31/31 and the ability Sand Force. It is also female to avoid attract from Skyla's Swoobat.

Are there any glitches in the run?
No, there are no useful glitches for speedrunning this game.

Why do you run White 2 instead of Black 2?
Charles is a triple battle in White 2 instead of a rotation battle, which is faster. There is also an extra required trainer in Reversal Mountain in Black 2.

Are you playing on console or emulator?
I am playing on a DS with a capture board installed.
