  1. Nelfsdale is a town in Eskeriath northwest of Highgate in-land, around a 2000 meters above the sea. Unless one would know of its location, it would be luck to stumble upon it among the mountains where its hidden. The town is concidered among the oldest towns in Eskeriath, and its townsmen and women are almost exclusively high-elves. The town is built on one of the feet of Numenor, which is the tallest mountain in Eskeriath standing about 4000 meters tall.
  2.
  3. The town has a deep and cultural religious connection with Gorganus, which is concidered to be a long lost god in some views. The town is quite old and concidered ancient as far as old towns go. With its intriquite stone architecture, and banners of blue and white that can be seen from afar blowing in the wind, Nelfsdale is a sight not forgotten by most visitors. Constant northernly winds rush through the valley where the town is located, not far from the lands of the dwarves in Ironfar. The town is most famous for its scenery, descreetly built on the foot of Lymenor, the tallest mountain in Eskeriath. Most houses here are several hundred or thousand years old. It is custom for many of the houses to expand their homes into the mountainside underground, likely inspired by halfling and dwarven architecture. Some homes are small on the outside, but built on a slope so that their home is bigger on the inside beneath the surface. On the top of the mountain, around 2000 meters above the town are the remnants of one of the lost towers of the Blue Hawk, an ancient wizard order that battled the seven ancient dragons in in an event named "The gathering of the Seven", before the age of men.
  4. In any good painter's store or art gallery is at least one or two depictions of Nelfsdale and Lymenor, with a streak or two of a grey tower visible on one of the cliffs of the mountaintop.

  6. Government
  7. Nelfsdale is inhabited by about 1100 people and governed by an appointed member of the town counsil, consisting of 4 members. The appointed councillor answer directly to the two crowns of Vaerilgate along with the concent of the rest of the counsil. When a counsel-member retires or dies, the remaining members invites a new member into the counsil. This individual is often representing a group within the society of Nelfsdale, like the workers, militia, merchants, etc. Unlike most towns and villages, Nelfsdale had no lordship. It is believed that its remote location is the cause of this, or just by luck that the crowns does not take notice to the town due to its lack of economical impact.
  8. The current counsellor is Galinsor Thindelwyn which have been on the counsil for around 70 years. He was invited to lead the counsil by the other counsil members after Galinsor had been helping the town during a food shortage. He did this in charity, and demanded nothing. When he got the invitation he moved from Highgate to Nelfsdale, away from his family and noble duties.

  10. Religion
  11. Nelfsdale is of old high elven tradition, in which they do ceremonial activities forgotten or lost elsewhere. The town has a temple named The Deep Sanctum in favor to Gorganus, in which the other gods also have shrines of their own. This temple is located beneath ground in a chamber with a natural stone and dirt floor with simple characteristics. The faith in the people of Nelfsdale is not radical, but rather subtle. Marriage by traditional standards is less practiced by the people, where another form of partnership is performed instead. Men and women that fall in love cannot agree to become partners. They must enter a trial in front of the Wise Vicor, where he or she reads in stone tablets if the two should be partners or not. It is believed that the tablets transcribes the destiny of the partners, to see if it is meant to be. For that which is written in stone endures. The stones are usually very old and sought out by pilgrims in deep places like caves and the underdark where those that first relayed Gorganus' words carved them. The tablets are then carved out of walls and cave walls and carried to temples such as the Deep Sanctum. If the Wise Vicor finds the partnership true and meant to be, the Vicor takes them to the tree that grows its roots down above the Sanctum and bonds them in partnership. Two strings of cloth or silk often different colors is then tied to a branch. As long as it endures time, so shall the partnership.
  12. There are other examples of faith to Gorganus in Nelfsdale, like prayers. It is not common to pray to Gorganus, because it is believed that destiny is already written in stone. A strong belief and faith in his good will is more ideal to those that favor the deep God.

  14. Economy, Services and Business
  15. The town has no export, but has a small and steady internal economy based on tourism from travelers, pilgrims and traders that seek the town's peaceful location and rough beauty. Many that live in Nelfsdale are long retired nobles and High Elves that seek a more peaceful existence far from busy streets and roaring seas. Many of these are rich enough to live out their lives concentrating on their crafts, studies or hobbies.
  16. There are not many services in Nelfsdale, but a few here and there. The usual businesses are present like a general store, bakers, a few blacksmiths and a stable. Among these are the Lymenorian Hotel, a less fine Inn with a fancy name owned by a human family seeking fortune in travelers and visitors to Nelfsdale. A bar and tavern named the Tall Eagle is a more popular place to the locals, where locally brewed Mead and Ale like Blonde Hop Ale and Old Omen Mead is served along with imported wines. These wines are sold by the bar at great profit, for the wine is donated to the bar by a rich local named Baventolas Zinpentos. This patron has too much gold to spend, and believes that a town without wine is a town not fit to live or die in. He is a loyal customer to the Tall Eagle and it is custom to make toasts to him if he is present at the Eagle.
  17. Another gem of Nelfsdale is Rongatan's Branches and Such, which is a small workshop and store owned by Rongatan's son, Alokei. The shop does not generally see business often, but some wizards and other magic users travel long ways to browse the inventory of the wandmaker.
