  3. >Be a geneticist at a private corporation research base
  4. >work on cutting edge technology and sciences
  5. >part of you studies include pets, fluffy ponies in particular
  6. >discover interesting things such as their bodies are so fragile that the stresses of reproduction can kill them if they aren't properly nourished, in good condition or just randomly despite all the precautions that could be taken
  7. >they seem to be able to survive large amounts of electricity because their fluff acts as an earthing device, once they reach their limit they will either catch fire, get electrocuted or explode
  8. >these things are small discoveries though, the interesting things are deeper in their genetic structure
  9. >the Unicorn, Pegasus and Earth subtypes are each semi divergent evolutions brought about by environmental pressures but they each have different genes that could be combined to increase the intelligence, life span and overall fitness
  10.
  11. >Through selective breeding you have managed to produce innumerable failures and a small batch of successes which you have set up in a breeding program
  12. >among them you have grown attached to a red fluffy with an orange mane and tail
  13. >you have segregated him and his kin from the regular fluffies to avoid contaminating their genetics through accidental pregnancies
  14. >one of your colleagues is teaching them basic elementary school curriculum and is reporting them currently being at a second grade level and appearing to be able to progress to at least fourth grade level
  15. >you are unsure why so much effort is being put into researching these things but you are paid well and given whatever is needed for your studies so you do not complain
  16. >mating season comes around and you hurriedly prepare to catalogue the process, it's results and the effect it has on the fluffies
  17. >the males show some confusion at their feelings during this period and are distressed slightly, the females are also confused but seem happier
  18. >eventually one pair ends up mating and it sparks a rush of the rest to copy
  19. >due to better standards of living, nutrition and proper exercise the fluffies were brought up with only two males out of the eight die from mating
  20. >the females all grow steadily over the next few weeks and the time for birthing rapidly approaches, they maintain good health through the process thanks to regular care and increased vitamin supplements to their food
  21. >you explain to the fluffies that you are taking them to a nice room so they can give birth and the ones that can still walk happily follow while the ones too big to move are carried to their places
  22.
  23. >During the birthing three mares fluffsploded despite all precautions and the foals mothers were distressed when the foals were removed from them for health checking, the mothers and foals were kept separate for a week until the intellgence level of the foals could be accurately predicted
  24. >sadly less than half the foals met the required standards with the rest being much more stereotypical of their kind
  25. >once the mothers and their "behbehs" as they called them were checked for health and the failures removed in their sleep they were reintegrated with the main pack, it seems that fluffies have an instinctive desire to hug and protect their foals despite having seemingly no survival instinct themselves
  26. >After two weeks the foals were again tested, another quarter of them were found to be of subpar intelligence and were removed, disposed of by some of the other groups in their testing
  27. >one of the unintelligent ones was a rare mix however, it had both wings and a horn. Sadly it managed to kill itself by choking on another fluffy's fluff while trying to hug it
  28. >this had a deleterious effect on the groups morale sadly as they kept asking "whar behbeh go?" it seems while they are more intelligent they still retain some instinctual drives such as caring for their children regardless of their capabilities
  29.
  30. >you have gotten used to having your pony with you and he came with you to visit the other ponies in their holding areas, the smell of excrement and food nearly made him vomit and he avoided the other fluffies while saying "no smeww pwetty, keep stinkies away daddy". While trying to escape however he ended up being partially crushed by the mass of fluffies chanting "new fwend? Pway!"
  31. >you remove him from the pile and take him to the vetinary rooms, sadly his legs were broken and he was partially blinded by the idiots in their rush.
  32. >you decide this is a great time to test one of the other departments creations
  33. >you go to the cybernetics lab and discuss the situation with them and agree it would be a good test of their progress
  34. >you return to your fluffy, sadly their little bodies cannot handle drugs or chemicals in any significant amount so pain killers and other useful drugs are restricted to smaller doses which wear off all too quickly.
  35. >you explain to him that you are going to fix his legs and his eye so he can play with his friends again
  36. >he looks happy at this but says "no wanna pway with stinkies, they bad fluffies"
  37. >you consider explaining that they aren't really bad just stupid but such things are beyond your little friend so you just agree to not let them play with him again
  38. >you wait while the medical and cybernetics teams work on creating test models for your fluffy to use, sadly this means you can't amputate the broken limbs as it would damage the nerves too much so your fluffy has to sit there in pain for the week it takes them to put together the parts.
  39. >during this time the other ponies are all asking where their friend went and you reply that he is in the hospital getting better and he will be back to play with them soon, at this they cheer and say thankyou
  40.
  41. >the operation day comes
  42. >at the same time the foals reach maturity and are nearing their first heat so preparations are made to separate them from the others so that the mating will not be interfered with by the original group
  43. >the operation commences, your fluffy is given the heaviest anesthetic possible and he drifts off.
  44. >while he sleeps the team work to remove his legs and leave the nerve endings intact so they can be joined to his cybernetics, they also insert a small control computer into his brain to allow him to control them
  45. >after the operation he sleeps for two days straight and finally wakes up
  46. >when he wakes up he first screams at his new limbs until he realizes they are his then he starts giggling
  47. >he adapts to the cybernetics quickly and his recovery only takes a week, he is anxious to get back to his friends
  48. >during this time the foals start feeling the effects of their mating season and are trying to figure out why they feel like this
  49. >after a few tune ups so his new limbs work properly your fluffy is ready to go back to his friends, his speed has increased thanks to no longer having fluffy little stumps of legs and his new eye means he can see things clearer instead of in the semi haze most fluffies see due to their fluff obscuring their vision and poor genetics meaning they are generally short sighted
  50. >the foals figure out mating during this time and the females are impregnated, five males died in the process this time causing questions about why this happened but it is chalked up as just the random deaths that can occur
  51. >the mares are pregnant for nearly a full week when your fluffy gets to see his friends again.
  52.
  53. >the big day comes
  54. >your fluffy is so happy to be rejoining his group he cannot contain himself
  55. >as you open the door his friends are crowding around waiting to see him and when he runs into the room they all scream
  56. >the fluffies don't recognize their friend, they think he is a monster.
  57. >your fluffy doesn't understand he is trying to hughes friends he hasn't seen for nearly three weeks. Close to an eternity for a fluffy pony
  58. >as he continues trying to hug his friends they keep running, intelligence and training lost in terror they act like their normal kin
  59. >many of the fluffies are trampled and some of the mares go into labor, in their terror however the others defecate on them or crush the, under squishy hooves.
  60. >your fluffy begins to cry "why fwens no pway?" so you go to pick him up and remove him from the group
  61. >he cries all the way back to your room
  62. >you set him down and try to calm him down but he refuses to listen.
  63. >in his sorrow he grew to hate his friends as much as he hated the "stinkies" who made him end up like this
  64. >he ended up going to sleep after eating some food.
  65. >you return to the group and get a damage report from your colleagues
  66. >a third of the adult fluffies died or were injured beyond help and two thirds of the foals were born prematurely and died or will die soon
  67. >you are saddened by this setback and assist in the clean up and calming of the now reduced group
  68. >the next few days pass uneventfully
  69. >the ponies calm down and ask why the monster came and your fluffy gets more and more introverted
  70.
  71. >One day you wake up, it is a sunday so you plan to take your fluffy outside for a walk
  72. >you make his breakfast and go to find him but he is missing
  73. >you search your room and end up finding him in the bathtub
  74. >this is no worry for you since he knows how to swim and his legs are waterproof
  75. >what does worry you is that he dislikes bathing, while he enjoyed swimming in the pool with his friends bathing was something he hated.
  76. >you ask him what happened and he says he had an accident in his sleep, this is rare since he has always been very good with his toilet usage but you chalk it up to stress from the recent events and think no more of it
  77. >later on you find that the regular ponies died in the night
  78. >apparently a sprinkler system malfunctioned and they all drowned in the downpour
  79. >your fluffy smiles when he hears this, you think it must be because he is glad that the ones who hurt him are gone, after all fluffies are the one creature that was bred specifically to not be violent
  80. >you spend the day outside with your fluffy, he enjoys running a lot more now that he can move faster and feel the wind on his face
  81. >afterwards you take him down to the cybernetics department, they are impressed at how well he has taken to the replacements
  82. >they show him a new trick with his eye, he can make a targeting laser appear with a slight amount of concentration, they explain this is because the eye was based on a military prototype
  83. >all the way back to your room he is aiming it at things and enjoying the reactions from the staff
  84.
  85. >The second lots of foals are born, this time with zero fluffsplosions
  86. >you take this as a good sign
  87. >your fluffy however does not
  88. >they are tested and it is found that only a quarter are smarter this time.
  89. >the rest are regular fluffies
  90. >the project is slowing down thanks to the earlier setbacks
