  1. Jericho: So... how are you? *This... odd person saved them earlier from an impending doom, but still he seemed... off... He had a small home and let them stay there, and went to collect food. Xav went to make sure he didn't try anything.*
  2.
  3. Jericho: How's the town? Sorry, caught us during a nighttime thing so... NOT AS AMAZING AS IT CAN BE! Heheh...
  4.
  5. Xavros: *Gives a weak laugh to follow, although it's painfully clear that his heart wasn't in it*
  6.
  7. Jericho: Eh, soo... You dont talk much, do you?
  8.
  9. Xavros: Sorry, it's just... I've been thinking a lot, and not all the thoughts make it to my mouth.
  10.
  11. Jericho: Ah, life struggles. Gotcha.
  12.
  13. Xavros: It's not every night you wake up from a nightmare to find a gun in your mouth, that's for sure... for a sec I thought Voh'd actually pull the trigger.
  14.
  15. Jericho: Whoa, heavy duty man. Did you attack him?
  16.
  17. Xavros: Well, I'd been screaming at the top of my lungs and fell off the bunk, apparently, so I think he was justified.
  18.
  19.
  20. Jericho: Let me guess... you smell like you have been waking up in cold sweats for years, your heart is constently racing, a sign of stress. You hardly smell like an anima, even though I can tell. You have yet to attack anything in your anima form. So... you're afraid of the beast.
  21.
  22.
  23. Xavros: ...that might not be entirely true, actually.
  24.
  25. Jericho: Either that or you just REALLY hate using it. Most likely both. I'm also a detective, but that's just a day job. Joke shops are my thing.
  26.
  27. Xavros: You seem quite capable in that regard. But my... 'anima', you called it? ...I'm not fond of it. Every time I feel stressed, anxious, any of that really, I feel a whirling storm of emotions, and I'm afraid I'll hurt another friend.
  28.
  29. Jericho: Wow, still? Most kids handle that fast. Hmm, have you tried talking with it?
  30.
  31. Xavros: Talking?
  32.
  33. Jericho: Well, that and meditation. But I think letting it out helps, too. I mean, a sentient being is sharing a body with you. You've gotta talk, communicate. Even if it doesnt like it.
  34.
  35. Xavros: I... beg your pardon? I haven't been like this for very long, two years at most, but I'm fairly certain I'm just cursed. The same spark that gave me another chance at life is the only thing keeping it in control.
  36.
  37. Jericho: Hahaha, no dude, did you just say that?
  38.
  39. Xavros: What's so humorous?
  40.
  41. Jericho: Okay, okay... *he began eyeing Xavros over* Rustic style of clothing... ol' timey speech... curses, sparks... Where you come from werewolves are all over the place right?
  42.
  43. Xavros: They were (at least during the full moon), but I called upon the great Archangel to lift their curses. They now physically are as werewolves were, but their hearts are both wild and human.
  44.
  45. Jericho: Yep. Oh... Malah you ol' fathead. Of course, Innistradian. Love you guys! So funny! Let me guess... You were bitten by a werewolf.
  46.
  47. Xavros: Yes, actually. *he pulls his chainmail sleeve up to show his bitemark, where it's hidden underneath his tattoo*
  48.
  49. Jericho: Okay... Let me set this slab of truth on you. You were never infected with some werewolf thing
  50.
  51. Xavros: Excuse me!?
  52.
  53. Jericho: Chances are you were gonna change, anyway.
  54.
  55. Xavros: What do you mean? Nobody I've known from home has, anyways.
  56.
  57. Jericho: That's because Malah doesnt understand that you have to tell people this. Everyone from your multiverse has an anima. Or an animal spirit. You all have potential to change your forms to a more beast like form.
  58.
  59. Jericho: Some never do. Some do as soon as they are born but never understand why. You are a late bloomer.
  60.
  61. Xavros: So what you're trying to say is I've been a monster from the very beginning, but I didn't find out until I was foolish enough to be bitten? Is that it? *The winds around the two started to noticably change, gaining a bit of speed*
  62.
  63. Jericho: Ugh, no, you're not a monster. It's just your spirit. And wolves bite mainly to show new pups how to attack.
  64.
  65. Xavros: Why did they only appear on full moons, then?
  66.
  67. Jericho: The same reason mist wolves only appear at night. Natural hunting instincts and adaption. That and the moon has always fascinated ALL anima. Don't know why.
  68.
  69. Xavros: *sighs* I'm not really sure how to follow your advice, though. I mean, how can I tame a beast I can't even speak to?
  70.
  71. Jericho: Aren't you listening? It's not about taming some wild animal. It's about finding peace with yourself and who you are. And yeah, you CAN. Try now. Talk to it like you are to me.
  72.
  73. Xavros: Okay... I'll give it a shot... *He closed his eyes* Listen, I know I haven't talked to you at all, and have shunned you, but I realize now... I'm a part of you, and you're a part of me. *As he says this, the winds begin to pick up more, as if in anger. Xavros grabbed his cloak and wrapped his arms in it, brushing it off as mere coincidence*
  74.
  75. Xavros: ...I don't hear anything.
  76.
  77. Jericho: Don't try to. Just hear him. He sounds a bit peeved.
  78.
  79. Xavros: Okay... I won't feel as though you're a monster, but as a being. *The winds seemed to go stagnant, as if in response. Feeling as if he was making progress, he continued* ...an equal. *He immediately fell to the ground, clutching his chest as though he'd been punched so hard the wind was knocked out of him*
  80.
  81. Jericho: You okay, pal?
  82.
  83. Xavros: *he dedicated a few moments to solid breathing, but nodded his head in response*
  84.
  85. Jericho: Keep going.
  86.
  87. Xavros: I think we could reach an agreement of sorts... to help each other out... you lend me your strength, I'll lend you mine. *The clouds, barely visible against the black backdrop of the night sky, started to rumble softly, glowing with small flashes of light*
  88.
  89. Xavros: *Looks to Jericho for clarity, since he's clearly unsure what that means*
  90.
  91. Jericho:I think that's good!
  92.
  93. Xavros: How can you tell?
  94.
  95. Jericho: You're still you, right?
  96.
  97. Jericho: Most of the time if they don't like you, they just take over.
  98.
  99. Xavros: I think I know what Maragret meant, when she said a new bond had taken root in my heart.
  100.
  101. Jericho: Eh?
  102.
  103. Xavros: Oh, don't worry about it. Well, I'll give shifting another try... *his nails and teeth begin to elongate, as his face starts to fill out with fur*
  104.
  105. Jericho: So, how's it feel?
  106.
  107. Xavros: *When he finishes transforming, the normal softness in his eyes seems to fade away, becoming more alert and active*
  108.
  109. Xavros: I feel better, more in complete contro... cont... c-complete con-*he clutched his head as if a migrane had started*
  110.
  111. Jericho: Calm down. Let him have some room.
  112.
  113. Xavros: *He gives a growly snort in response to Jericho, and lumbers closer to him*
  114.
  115. Jericho: Okay... So you must be his anima. My name is Jericho, what's yours?
  116.
  117. Xavros: *The beast gives a gutteral growl in response, and starts to raise one of its arms backwards in the air*
  118.
  119. Jericho: Uh huh...*he took a step back* Listen. You can calm down fella.
  120.
  121. Xavros: *The beast took a step forward, and tried to slam his claws down on Jericho, but found himself unable to, stopping just before the blow landed*
  122.
  123. Jericho: Ah. Cool. So...you calm?
  124.
  125. Xavros: *He clutched his head in pain again, and the soft, kindness returned to Xavros's eyes. He started muttering to himself, the same phrase over and over*
  126.
  127. Xavros: Don't feel... don't feel...
  128.
  129. Jericho: Uh... Yeah. I'll roll with it.
  130.
  131. Xavros: *He backs away from Jericho*
  132.
  133. Jericho: *He hears a loud and low roar.* I'll be back. *he was enveloped in a red light, then flew off into the deep forest. Xav heard a loud and wet snap. A large beast was tossed into the air, and a burst of fire burned it to a crisp*
  134.
  135. Xavros: Keep it together, don't lose control, don't lose control, DON'T LOSE CONTROL...
  136.
  137.
  138. Jericho: *he came out of the forest, the meat landing in front of them.* Dinner is served.
  139.
  140. Xavros: *As he laid eyes on the meat, nothing else seemed to matter. The beast started tearing chunks out of it with his massive fangs, pretty much oblivious to Jericho's presence*
  141.
  142. Jericho: Ah, meat. What can't you do?
  143.
  144. *After a while, the beast's feasting started to slow down, and Xavros's mind looked like it was returning, at least, for now*
  145.
  146. Xavros: I... I feel like the grip is loosening. For now, at least.
  147.
  148. Jericho: Man. You got a wild one. Good and bad.
  149.
  150. Xavros: Good? What good can come of such ferocity?
  151.
  152. Jericho: Loyalty. Power. Adventure. A lot of things.
  153.
  154. Jericho: If you find out what he wants. And find just how to connect with him. He will be loyal. Even let you use him in need. Most of the time.
  155.
  156. Xavros: How will I know what he wants?
  157.
  158. Jericho: Well, the bad thing is that it's harder to tell. I'd say test runs help. But he seems somewhat reasonable. Continue to talk to him. Listen and he will respond. Mainly in your head.
  159.
  160. Xavros: I'm curious, when I blacked out, what happened? Other than that, of course *he says, gesturing to the half-eaten corpse*
  161.
  162. Jericho: Eh... not much. He tried to eat me so I figured he was hungry. We eat at different times so when you eat, he doesn't. Guy must be starving.
  163.
  164. Xavros: I tried to EAT you?
  165.
  166. Jericho: *He shrugged and smiled* Yeah, but it's cool. If it came down to it, I would just eat you, so Even Steven.
  167.
  168. Xavros: That is NOT comforting.
  169.
  170. Jericho:Why not? You're still here right? Don't worry, I like him and you, so 'most I'll do is send you into a high atmosphere 'till you pass out.
  171.
  172. Xavros: I'm sorry, but this is quite a lot to take in.
  173.
  174. Jericho: Eh, you're a big boy. You will figure it out
  175.
  176. Xavros: What if I can't? I'm sworn to protect those kids and I want to help the rest of the crew, but I can't very well do it when I keep having these blackouts.
  177.
  178. Xavros: I keep waking up in cold sweats because I keep having this recurring nightmare, where they decide I'm too dangerous to go along, and they just off me because I'm more trouble than I'm worth.
  179.
  180. Jericho: Eh, dont sweat it. I'm sure they think you're a big help.
  181.
  182. Xavros: Yeah, I know they're completely unfounded fears, but still... *he holds out his clawed hands* These have done enough damage already
  183.
  184. Jericho: Trust me, pal. My talons have gotten me in trouble, too. But that doesnt stop me from living. If you can't control yourself, that means you have trust issues with yourself.
  185.
  186. Jericho: You gotta... learn to trust /you/.
  187.
  188. Xavros: So what am I supposed to do with what little control I have? Just let it go, not hold back?
  189.
  190. Jericho: Hmm.... I got an idea. Alright, kick me in the groin.
  191.
  192. Xavros: ...excuse me?
  193.
  194. Jericho: Yeah, really hard.
  195.
  196. Xavros: Well, if you won't hold it against me... *he bends down to take off one if his iron boots*
  197.
  198. Jericho: No no, leave it on.
  199.
  200. Xavros: *he gives Jericho a look that says "oh gods, you're serious". He gives his leg a few practice swings, as if trying to gain momentum, but when the kick finally does land, it is clear he was holding back*
  201.
  202.
  203. Jericho:......AAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!
  204.
  205. Xavros: Oh gods, are you okay!?
  206.
  207.
  208. Jericho: *He fell to the floor cursing, but managed to pull out a small empty vial. It was clear he was crying. He put the vial up to his eye, filling it to the brim in seconds*
  209.
  210. Jericho: Here....*he handed over the vial*
  211.
  212. Xavros: What's this?
  213.
  214. Jericho: Tears.
  215.
  216. Xavros: Let me rephrase that... WHY did you make me do that?
  217.
  218. Jericho: Dude...ugh...ever hear of phoenix tears?
  219.
  220. Xavros: You're the first phoenix I've met.
  221.
  222. Jericho: Understandable. Ok... phoenixians have the ultimate skills when it comes to healing. If we wanted to, we could bring the dead back to life. But it's not just physical wounds. Mental, spiritual, psychological. Basically anything that hurts, we can treat it.
  223.
  224. Jericho: Take that during meditation. Or whenever you decide to let him out. I guarantee that will help.
  225.
  226. Xavros: I'll give it a try, then.
  227.
  228. Xavros: And if I do hurt someone, a few drops of this will undo the damage?
  229.
  230. Jericho: Yep.
  231.
  232. Xavros: *his eyes lit up* Wonderful! My own healing spells have been... ineffective as of late.
  233.
  234. Jericho: I got more. *He pulled out ten more vials*
  235.
  236. Xavros: You wouldn't happen to be able to spare a few more, would you?
  237.
  238. Jericho: Sure, I got millions at home. I cry a lot...
  239.
  240. Xavros: You seem pretty well adjusted to me, I wouldn't have known it.
  241.
  242. Jericho:eh dont worry about it. Most of the time I'm pretty copacetic.
  243.
  244. Xavros: A couple years ago, I would have said the same about myself.
  245.
  246. Jericho: Yeah, well, you don't have your dead soulmate around your neck. But, anywho. Let's go. *he patted Xav on the shoulder*
  247.
  248. Xavros: Yeah, you're right. The others are probably wondering where we are
  249.
  250. *the two walked back to the small house, talking about how to control yourself*
  251.
  252. *Waiting outside the house was the beast mercenary, leaning up against the front wall. When he saw the two approaching, he got up and walked to the two, looking Xav right in the eyes*
  253.
  254. Jericho: Hey! How's it goin'?
  255.
  256. Vohton: I can't complain, I assume you guys had a good talk. *He looked over at the werewolf, who was surprisingly in complete control of himself* ...and it looks like you made some progress. *his voice shifted into a more uncomfortable tone* Listen, wolf, I... I didn't really mean to... well, you know. There's a ton of people that want me dead, so I always sleep with a gun, and... well, usually people only nanoblast when they mean to kill, so... um...
  257.
  258. *the faint outline of a giant Ifrit-like hand manifested behind Vohton, and pushed him forward a bit, in an encouraging way* Vohton: *he looks away* I'm sorry, okay?
  259.
  260. Jericho: Yay, all is happy again.
  261.
  262. Xavros: Don't worry, I know you guys wouldn't hurt me, and if I were in the same situation, I'd do the same.
  263.
  264. Vohton: So... we're good?
  265.
  266. Xavros: Of course.
  267.
  268. Jericho: Don't worry about him going all crazy. I gave him something that calms people down.
  269.
  270. Vohton: That'll help me sleep better at night, for sure.
  271.
  272. Vohton: Well, let's head inside, then.
  273.
  274. Heph: (inside Vohton's mind): "Well, what'd I tell you? I knew that young λυκάνθρωπος would be forgiving."
